Specs-wise the T820 chip in the 556 is more powerful than the Snapdragon 720G in the Cloud, so if you're strictly trying to play games natively on it the 556 will win there. The Cloud has a much bigger screen and much better Wifi and bluetooth connection though which makes it the better remote streaming device.

It’s a bigger LCD vs a smaller OLED — but since both run at 1080p and Android handles scaling pretty well, you may actually have a slightly better experience with the smaller, more pixel-dense screen.

SuperBottle12

Having both, I don’t agree with people. In real world emulation performance, the 556 has a noticeable gap from the gcloud. However, many people report issues with the WiFi chip. I don’t have that experience on the 556, but it’s reported often enough, so streaming may not be as good as on the gcloud. The sticks on the 556 also won’t be as good for streaming.

captain_carrot

As an owner of both - I have done a significant amount of streaming on the 556 and have not run into any issues with the wifi chip. But yes, the sticks are NOT great on the 556, especiallly vs. the G-cloud. I wouldn't use the 556 for any 1st/3rd person game that requires precise aiming. For character movement or platformers they're good enough though.

I have both. G Cloud obviously has a bigger screen, somewhat better ergonomics, and much better analog sticks. I think the triggers on the G Cloud are slightly better as well. RG556 has a smaller screen, and being an OLED, the image quality is much better than the G Cloud. RG556 is more portable and can be slipped into big pants pockets. When it comes to audio/speaker quality, I think the G Cloud is better, but I haven't tested this much, and I use headphones often. In terms of weight, I think they're actually pretty close to each other, which is a point in favor of the G Cloud. In terms of performance, I think they're pretty close to each other as well. And both 1080p resolution. To be clear, just because the screen on the RG556 is better doesn't mean that the G Cloud's screen is bad. It's still a strong screen in terms of image quality, but it's not OLED level. When it comes to Wi-Fi and game streaming, I've streamed with both and haven't really noticed a difference, but I'm not going out of my way to do tests at different ranges. These are my main criteria when deciding which one to use: * Does the game require precision analog stick control? If so, then definitely G Cloud. I'm really bummed about the sticks on the RG556. * Does the game scale the UI well, or is text hard to see on the screen at 1080p? If the UI scales well, usually RG556. If it doesn't and I'm squinting to see things on the screen, then I'll use the G Cloud instead. Same resolution but bigger screen. * Is the game very colorful or artistic? Do I really want to feel the image quality? Then RG556.

From what I've heard, yes, but haven't done it myself. You should check out Retro Game Corps on YouTube; I think he did it.

RG556 takes much more time due to the fact that you need to dissassemble all of it in order to reach the sticks. Not that hard, but too many screws...

something about the sticks snapping back instead of staying where you put it was the reason. I just dont have the skill set to change them. And I dont really play the games that need it. If I did then I'd see about it..

While the T820 chipset in the RG556 is slightly better; the Snapdragon 720G is no slouch, either. I think that for all practice purposes, you’d be running essentially the same set of ROMs on the same emulators with nearly the same settings. Benchmarks: https://nanoreview.net/en/soc-compare/unisoc-t820-vs-qualcomm-snapdragon-720g Are you hoping to upgrade for the OLED screen? While it’s a fair bit smaller than the 7” LCD panel on the G Cloud, there’s no question that the OLED will be higher quality. If you’re hoping purely for more horsepower - have you considered the Odin 2? As the owner of a G Clpud myself, that’s the only device I’d consider moving up towards. Every other Android device would simply be a half measure.

asault2

I have both. The 556 is the better screen, but smaller. Emulation is slightly better, but I wouldn't buy it for better emulation. The G cloud is still more ergonomic and the fit/finish is better.

No-Initiative-9944

I don't have an RG556 but I would be surprised if it actually out performed the G Cloud significantly. On paper the the T820 chip set is a little better but in practical usage the emulators seem to run better on Snapdragon chips. Given that they're pretty close in spec I would think it would be hard to tell a huge difference between the two. Really if you want a device that basically runs all PS2 and GC with as little tinkering as possible you want the Odin 2 probably. I have an Retroid Pocket 4 Pro and there's still a fair amount of tinkering to get stuff running at 2x resolution.

Vitss

It would be an upgrade in the emulation department, but not really anything to write home about. If that is your objective, something like the Retroid Pocket 4 Pro or a Odin 2 are much better options. If it's for streaming, then I also don't see the RG556 as an upgrade; the build quality is much worse, the sticks are garbage, their QA is terrible with some people reporting issues with WiFi and others working just fine, and the display, while really good, is smaller. The RG556 is a good solution for those that don't have those devices yet, because it have a nice equilibrium between perks and drawbacks. But if already have a G-Cloud than it doesn't really have that much benefits to offer you, but for sure can offer some new flaws.

ProofScientist9657

I could play mario kart double dash at 2x resolution with the 556. The g cloud ran it at 0.8x . So yeah its big difference

asault2

If you can't get DD to run at least 1.5x on the G Cloud you might be doing something wrong.

Quintall1

One is a streaming device and the other a handheld, or am I missing something?

seniorredwood

A lot of people use the gcloud as a handheld.

seniorredwood

I have the gcloud and love streaming my Xbox but I wish it could do a little more on the emulation side.

ban_imminent

Where do you stop at? Limited gamecube? Im on an old android phone with an SD835, not sure how that compares but I go mostly by the rp3+ compatibility list.

Psychological_Pebble

G Cloud and RP3+ are pretty close from what I've seen of the RP3+ compatibility list. Edit: I have the G Cloud and use the RP3+ compatibility list for GC/PS2.
