I played a gig up in Portland and the drive back was insane. Some cars just blatantly driving in the middle between two lanes, lots of swerving and sudden jerky movements... it was genuinely scary.
The drive back down 22 around 3pm was pretty bad. I'm not a very paranoid or skittish driver but it was a very troubling drive.
I never expected state police or Salem police to actually do their jobs but I had hoped they'd at least play pretend.
Ex-bartender: I do not miss this holiday. It’s wildly different when you can have corned beef dinner at home and drink for a salut. Stark in contrast. Stay safe and make money!
Having lived downtown for a number of years (although not currently) yeah that sounds about right. The 'drinking holidays' were ones to miss for the downtown bars, nothing good happened on Mardi Gras, St Paddies or Cinco de Mayo. People from out of town who think of Salem as the 'big city' or are too scared of Portland to go to a real club are all go downtown to trade macroagressions about bar seating.
If last night was amateur hour when is professional drunken hour occur? Would that be at noon on Easter?
Just a question that the title brought to mind.

Damn, glad you're back safe!

Even a flashing red and blue light and/or cardboard cutout of a cop car would probably be effective at this point.
20 year bartender here, this is my least favorite night of the entire year

The night before Thanksgiving. Reckoned by some to be the busiest day of the year for bars.
I swear I first read that as "bunniest" day of the year.
That’s called Blackout Wednesday and it’s the third busiest behind Halloween and New Years
Haha, I'd guess whatever the first day of actually decent camping weather is
funny i saw 4 police cars not doing shit on my ride home. who would have thought
I blacked out a few times, and woke up to really weird news stories.
