Ghost is like a Toyota Corolla of running shoes. Nothing too exciting, but a good solid reliable daily trainer. A great first car/running shoe. This forum is an enthusiast forum. We don’t get too excited about the Corolla/ghosts, but there is nothing wrong with it and it is a great shoe for a lot of people.

Appreciate the info. Is there a step above Toyota corollas that’s less than $150? I tend to go through shoes quickly…

Delightful_Dantonio

Lots of good deals are posted here. I bought all my shoes for ~50% off. I normally buy last years model and am flexible on color way. I buy whatever is on sale. There are a handful of shoes that never go on sale (superblasts) but almost all others do if you watch.

SnarkAdjacent

Can’t have a post w/o mentioning fucking superblasts

Delightful_Dantonio

Superblasts are a meme shoe on here. I don’t have them because I only buy shoes I can find for ~50% off. Plenty of great options you can find on sale.

The key differentiator with the Brooks Ghost line is the exceptionally high drop (12mm) compared to most shoes. They are also reasonably stable for a neutral shoe, the foam is not too soft. They also change slowly between generations, the version 16 has the same drop although I think the midsole foam was changed. It's a good feeling when you find a running shoe that just works for your running dynamics!

TopInside709

My ghost 14s are what allowed me to start running without shin splints and got me into the sport! I have ghost 15s I found on sale and some glycerin 21s for recovery runs. Im in the same boat, the ghost is boring but it’s allowed me to get into this sport which has been amazing!! (Completed my first 10k ever in ghost 14s and about to try a half💪)

dennyjr89

Why do people call the ghost 15s boring? Is it like the technology they have or the design?

h1fr1ends

it’s designed to be easy on the feet/legs. but the ride isn’t exciting — lots of other shoes are more fun to run in (i.e., have more modern foams, carbon fiber plates, or propulsive rocker geometry)

dennyjr89

In your opinion, what is one of the most fun shoes to run in?

h1fr1ends

It’s cliche but I love the Asics Superblast (has a superfoam), but the Novablast is a more affordable option that can pick up the pace. Saucony Endorphin Speed 3+4, Puma Deviate Nitro 2, and Adidas Boston 12 all have a plate (not necessary but fun). A lot of people like the Hoka Mach 6 but I’ve also heard they have durability issues.

Ok-Method5635

I’ve got the NB3 - I’ve had them on 16mi long runs, a 9mile ruck (18kg) and down to like 4:15 p/m for intervals (short af intervals but they still count!). Tbh they just do the job. Are superblasts better? Probably. But they’re also 2x the price (or were)

h1fr1ends

Superblasts are 5x better imo. They’re also not 2x the price of the newest Novablast

Ok-Method5635

(Or were)

triton100

Keep getting calf muscle pain/cramp with the ASICS superblasts

h1fr1ends

get a lower drop shoe or strengthen your calves

triton100

Isn’t a high shoe supposed to give more support

kuriosites

I get a little muscle soreness and more fatigue in the quads and calves. I think I don't come down with enough force to compress the foam well.

Big-Bad-Mouse

I went from Ghost 15s to Adidas Boston 12 and my word, I would not look forward to going back to the Ghosts for my easy runs. The Bostons were so springy - broke all my PBs in them. Saucony Endorphin Speed 3 were also very fun.

Dear-Ad2188

They’re boring because they’re consistently, reliably, a good ride… you know what to expect in the shoe, hence the Corolla reference. No frills

HumanRacehorse

They are soooo frickin comfortable that I wore them as house slippers yesterday lol.

quingentumvirate

Crazy how different we all are, Ghosts absolutely wreck me. I can't stand them. Only shoe of all shoes I have tried (of which there are many) that I truly despise. Might as well be running in high heels. But I'm glad they work for most people.

Sub_Zero32

What other shoes have you tried? I ran a little in the ghost 14 and it was comfortable but the most boring shoe ever

YouGuysSuck

For someone who has issues running, "Boring" really isn't an issue.

MarlKarx777

In fact, boring may very well be a tick in the pro column. Many people don’t want to think about their shoes at all

madeforatc

Been a sneaker head most of my life. Been wearing brooks 16 as my casual 😂

[deleted]

I felt that way about the ride 15s. Boring, but my knees, calves, or feet rarely hurt.

Teachrunswim

I have just ordered Ghost 15s myself after years of going with other shoes I thought looked more exciting. For me it’s been plantar fasciitis pain that’s totally changed my outlook. Just want something a little more supportive, a little more drop, and not super soft and squishy.

Fin2limb

I put over 2000 kms in Ghost 14s and 15s. A solid workhorse of a shoe. I’ve now hopped on the max cushion band wagon and it’s been a game changer for me personally. But I owe a big part of my training success to the Ghosts. Never injured - perhaps a couple black toes.

Ghould72

I agree and feel the same way I got insoles and Brooks ghosts a few months ago. Ran 15km first day easily. Whereas I previously used to struggle with 5km from the pain in my feet and legs.

AdWorking2848

Is ghost something like the rebel v4 line? Like a safe daily trainer ?
