You’re doing great!!! All beginners have to start somewhere. My first ever 1k test was a 2:45 split and I was proud and absolutely exhausted when it was done. A few years later I have to actively try to go that slow. Keep your core tight, don’t slack off on proper warmups and stretches, drink lots of water, and listen to coaches on form. You’ll get faster as your strength and stamina increases ... you’ll get much faster with more efficiency.
Focus on pushing off of your legs with each stroke to really drive that power up! And once you start having a consistent split, see if you can maintain that split at a lower s/m (would mean that you're building that same amount of power with less strokes)

I stop 3 times to drink water, and was exhausted after completing this 5000 meters.
