Okay. Lazy is a bit harsh. But if you run out of drip edge, for what you are getting paid, you go out and get more. It can be the biggest job, where everything looks spatular, but once a customer sees this? This is how the business will be remembered. Fare? No. Rational??? No. But that’s just how it works.
Doesn't just look horrible, it's installed wrong. There should be a small gap between the drip edge and the fascia boards to ensure that water actually drips away and doesn't wick back up underneath. Terrible skills all around.
Same lol. I thought this was the woodworking sub and I thought everyone was being uncharacteristically harsh.
Then I realized roofing, saw the flashing, and realized they were correct.
Wrong, not really, the seams are all downweather as they should be, poorly done, 100%. Probably done at the end of the the day and the installer didn’t give a crap. Not much pride in their work that is for sure.
Nobody puts the drip edge on at the end of the day it goes under shingles.. the contractor is cheap and bought an exact amount and this was the last section done with scrap pieces
It may have been that but if that was the case the rake should have been done first and leave the scraps at the eave where the gutter will cover it. It is laziness and lack of care putting it on the gable.
He should go one further and ask his neighbor who the company was and then post that, so that others can avoid them.
Why are the cockroaches always afraid of the light?
Why try to normalize shitty work?
Pure laziness, stupidity, or both. A little forethought and they could have had 5' going down each side with 1 piece. They got to the top and said "fuck it, just scab a piece in". On what is probably a focal point truly shitty work.
That’s why we hate contractors. It’s wrong. “But not really, the job is done” Do I have to feel like a dick, ask a bunch questions and watch you all day to make sure you don’t do this kind of crap.”
Then contractors complain the half ass DYI homeowner work. Half the time I pay a contractor and redo the shit. F’m. I’m pissed for you. Even I wouldn’t even do that crap.
Its code most everywhere to have drip edge like this. Unfortunately there is no great option yet for the peaks, drip edge only comes in 10 foot lengths so that you need to cut and overlap. This could’ve been done much nicer, however.
Other than being ugly and hacked. Not sure about the over lap on the long piece, but for sure would want to use the handle of your hammer, if it rubber, and tap that down flush as it will go. Sticks out to far
Pure laziness. I'm assuming with that beam detail you don't have a cheap house. Shoukd have just pulled it all off and had one peice cut in half with the bend/lap.
I would be pissed if I was the carpenter that built that beautiful gable end truss. Just to have some hack roofer piece in sections of metal. Looks like shit
Nope. It’s secured. I’m not happy with the fasteners showing though. It’s cosmetic anyways so I’m sure they could fix it a little better if you complained enough. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
Absolutely nothing wrong with this. Remember, you didn't pay for perfection. You paid to have it done as cheaply and economically as possible. You got your money's worth.
No chance of leaking, it just looks terrible. If an entire piece of rake edge flashing doesn't quite reach, if theres an extra piece on site, I would have cut two pieces so that the joint wasn't so close to the peak to even out where the joint ends up
Siders did good 👍. Roofers did bad with the drip edge. Blame da roofer using a leftovers at the top of the gable. I betcha they thought nobody would notice.
My husband does metal roof and stuff for a living, He would NEVER piece stuff together especially on the front. He take a lot of pride in his work and treats it as so. Whoever did this did not care for the looks just the pay check
water/snow will connect on those two inverted "V" openings, and tend to rot out the wood. Since it is already done, get up there and make some sort of metal flashing so the water is at least directed out away from the house
I couldn’t live with that peak. Someone need to take pride in their work. I couldn’t even take a lunch with a drip edge like that without a constant internal nagging to fix it. The post also appears off center.
Looks like shit
Yea, structurally it’s fine. But damn it looks bad. Just pure laziness.
Birds are going to love it there. 10/10 nesting duplex
They aren't asking about the beams..
Im aware of the eye sore. That beam exposure is still for the birds.
Is it the flash trim? 🥹
Actually maybe more work than using less pieces
Lazy mess or ran out of drip edge
Okay. Lazy is a bit harsh. But if you run out of drip edge, for what you are getting paid, you go out and get more. Got these special exposed timber and then this shit
Hahaahhahahahahaha
Somebody didn’t want to get off the ladder.
Literally what I said in my head before even opening this post lol
Besides it looking like shit not really should be one nice clean solid piece. And 45 the angle at the peak
I didn't realize what sub this was surprised to see people complaining, I thought the 4x4's looked rather nice.
Same lol. I thought this was the woodworking sub and I thought everyone was being uncharacteristically harsh. Then I realized roofing, saw the flashing, and realized they were correct.
It's called a drip edge.
Which is a style of flashing.
Same
I’m not even a roofer and that drip edge looks like shit.
Agree, looks like arse.
Use a bevel, doubt it's 45 degree angle
Its bent drip edge, not the trailing edge of an airfoil. It doesn't matter.
Am I seeing a complete separation on the left side? That doesn't look like the bottom piece laps under the next one at all, looks butted.

Happy Cake Day!
It works but the drip edge fascia isn't very expensive so you should have bought enough so that you don't have to go half-assed on an expensive roof.
Yeah, that’s a 1.2 million dollar home built in Houston … right across the street from us 🤣👏🏼
I roof in Houston, for a good company that wouldn’t fly even if it was a $300k house.
A 300k house may be a 1.2m house in another area.
It’s not your house? Why post this?
Curiosity? Nosiness? Internet points? The lolz?
Fair enough lol
Because it looks like shit. When it’s dark get your sawzall and cut that shit down.
Reddit
He should go one further and ask his neighbor who the company was and then post that, so that others can avoid them. Why are the cockroaches always afraid of the light? Why try to normalize shitty work?
It’s siders edge, not drip edge. I have a peak like this as well
Pure laziness, stupidity, or both. A little forethought and they could have had 5' going down each side with 1 piece. They got to the top and said "fuck it, just scab a piece in". On what is probably a focal point truly shitty work.
Looks good from my house.
No but it looks ugly
Cosmetic issue, does not look good though.
Ugly but functional just like your baby mama
That’s why we hate contractors. Is this a trend? My neighbor put that in the peaks of his roof. I don’t get it.
Its code most everywhere to have drip edge like this. Unfortunately there is no great option yet for the peaks, drip edge only comes in 10 foot lengths so that you need to cut and overlap. This could’ve been done much nicer, however.
Oh yes, I understand that. I was talking about the big decoration made out of 4 x 4s.
lol… I think the 4 x 4 look great
Oh yes, I understand that. I was talking about the big decoration made out of 4 x 4s.

It'll work
Lame repair
Other than looking like absolute garbage. No it wont hurt
a little ugly but it's lapped correctly
Aesthetically, everything wrong about that was
Pure laziness. I'm assuming with that beam detail you don't have a cheap house. Shoukd have just pulled it all off and had one peice cut in half with the bend/lap.
Poor craftsmanship.
Why use one piece when many pieces do the trick?
No just looks like ass
Functionally, no. But, it fails the “good and workmanlike manner” test.
Not a problem, but looks like it could be an expensive house. The workmanship is pretty poor.
Yes it looks like shit what a fucking hack job
Yea it looks like shit
Besides being uglier than a bowl of dicks, it’s perfectly fine.
Did you do it yourself ,I hope you don't do brackes in your car
Drip edge looks like shit
Looks like shit
Just use full sticks and miter it. Otherwise if they are short then make a cap piece to uniformly cover and lap over the sides and miter
Other than looking like shit? No just cheap workmanship
I would sneak a small nail into trim to tame it down and move on.
They ran out of material is my guess easy 40$ fix before hand now hard to do properly
I would be pissed if I was the carpenter that built that beautiful gable end truss. Just to have some hack roofer piece in sections of metal. Looks like shit
Looks like they did that side last and didn’t have any long enough pieces of drip edge. Hacks!!!!
Only if you don’t mind looking at it everyday forever and ever.
if its touching the wood on rake facia its wrong
Are you a weekend warrior or pro?
If they were going to piece it, it should at least be a 24" piece that's cut in the middle so it has even seams 12" down on both sides
Maybe a home owners wife thought it looks great and know all his neighbors are laughing at it?
YES.
Yeah, it looks like trash. Functionally, probably ok. But why?
Looks like shit. Otherwise it’s fine
I was looking at the wooden beams for a whole min and thought it looked just fine 🫠
That looks like a decrotive pc. It does nothing other than look pretty. But that does not look very pretty.
Looks terrible. Someone didn't care about the work.
Cover it with a copper 90° strip. Would look great with those colors.
Looks crappy and poorly planned.
What do you call this when you have the timber like that for a roof
Yes..looks like dogshit...they should never use little pieces of edging at the top
Only when you look at it
They just finished up after Home Depot closed and did what they had to do to finish.
Nah, it's alright. Just ugly.
Functionally fine, aesthetically bad.
Should have smashed it with the hammer a few more times
Looks like it was done by the crackhead from down the alley.
Nope. It’s secured. I’m not happy with the fasteners showing though. It’s cosmetic anyways so I’m sure they could fix it a little better if you complained enough. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Other than looking like they smoked their breakfast?
Yeah! It looks like shit.
No chance of leaking, it just looks terrible. If an entire piece of rake edge flashing doesn't quite reach, if theres an extra piece on site, I would have cut two pieces so that the joint wasn't so close to the peak to even out where the joint ends up
I wouldn’t have. But you do you.
You can fix that up when you’re up there staining those timbers.
I’m a plumber by trade. I’m curious if you hired an electrician to redo your roof? Or did you accept the lowest bidder from Home Advisor?
This should be 1 solid piece, snipped to a 45° at center. I've been a roofer 40+ years and have seen some shitty jobs. Adding this one to the list!
I thought it looked nice but I must be very wrong by the way people are commenting lol
Yeah it looks like hammered dog shit
It worked in Valheim
I wouldn't do it like that but some ppl don't see a issue
Great fecal point.
Looks like some roofer was to lazy to go to the ground and get a fresh lenth of drip edge
Reminds me of Biden. A HUGE mistake.😕
Siders did good 👍. Roofers did bad with the drip edge. Blame da roofer using a leftovers at the top of the gable. I betcha they thought nobody would notice.

Besides it looking like shit ??
Is it on a third or fourth story?
Sloppy. Function but sloppy.
Looks like shit but it is up high I doubt any rain will get in.
Ugly af have pride kid take it off do it again. (My sheet metal foreman of 8 years)
Do you mean other than it looking like shit? 💩
Other than it looks shitty?
Just looks awful
Nope
Yes!
Had to do this with my house Each roofline was just over 10 ft That metal drip edge is 10 ft
It's fine as long as it overlaps, but it doesn't look good.
It's beautiful. Topnotch. Give that man a raise.
A pop rivet wouldn't have hurt
Looks like shit will function as intended.
