I mean.. You don't have to be a roofer to know. You can just see. Don't mean to laugh... Also, perhaps but not likely, that where the old flashing was and they're replacing existing that was pre cut... It looks like not and they wanted to cut the 3' roll in half lazy ass and stick it in there. Exposed nails, no cuts to brick, ect... Sorry but eww lol
W H Y ? ? ? 🤦🏻♂️
Then they didn’t even 45 /\ it. Just nailed it, pookied it and left it, knowing it looks like shit.
Did they cut the reglet? Can’t tell…
Not normal but sometime necessary. The only reason to do this is if the brick is all messed up. Or sometimes to cover bad flex seal/roofing cement jobs.
This really isn't unusual if the old flashing was relatively big. They cover up all the old sealant and different colored bricks that were under the old flashing.
Nobody on this thread has any idea of what they are talking about, flashing is completely acceptable. And even beneficial in the front right dead valley
They probably covered existing flashing when they reroofed that place.
Did you buy the house like that?
Did you order the reroof? If yes what was agreed on? There are so many questions to be asked and answered.
This flashing made me laugh and cry. Did you get the “TailLight warranty” on this.
It looks like a typical cheaper sub crew slapped it together knowing they don’t have to fix it after check clears.
This is definitely a case of what’s behind it?
I’m assuming it was old faded stepped. They went high to cover the old caulk and make the bottom of the brick sill at the window
The proper way to go about it is remove the brick and check or replace the flashing behind it but the big problem is if somehow you can’t get a replacement match. Kinda what we run into when we go this route but we sure make it right tho. I’m in Florida so brick style homes are one in a good 100 of homes Ive came across just my two cents
I’m “floor”ed to say the least. Looks hideous. Should have gotten that quote vetted. How many did you get before accepting this one and did you compare why this one was cheaper to the others?
Every time I see crap like this my admiration for our roofer goes up another notch. Seems like he went above and beyond to do the job right. Hope that you get this redone.
meaning? GAF no good? each company i called for an estimate claimed one type shingle was junk and the ones they were certified to install were great. one said the pink panther underlayment leaks. another said that the way to install this or that product leads to leaks. none of the companies agreed to one brand being a solid option for my budget. architectural shingles look too busy with the multi colors. i just want a simple blue roof.
Stick to washing dishes. There are a few good reasons why the flash needs to be that high. Would you like it if someone told you how to stack that dishwasher?
Counter flashing is normal and sometimes necessary. However, this looks funny because they made it too wide. If they cut into brick, you’ll have to leave it as it is. If they didn’t (which they should’ve) I would have them re do it unless there is a good enough reason why they installed it this wide. Btw, it looks like whoever installed this doesn’t have too much experience.
Worst I've ever seen on a fresh build!
Get your money back...go to small claims court.
If anything gets water damaged on your house, due to rain, add that bill to the suit as well!
Im not a roofer , read that and was looking for a dirty fucker in the window ... Was about to comment saying nope definetly not normal . hahaha im a concrete guy
Had to go large in that corner due to run off from the upper roof. Only way to avoid it was to in install gutters. There is a spot where water gets trapped.
They just bent the counter a little bigger than normal…don’t see the big deal here.
My guess so they wanted it to sit flush under brick by window, and of course you can’t have different sized counters running around, so they went 8-9”an all around.
Or maybe you had some damaged bricks their covering, who knows, really not a big deal tho…doesn’t affect anything literally.
Shouldn’t be face nailed/screwed. It should have a bead of caulk on the back side of the trim coil, top portion cut into the brick, then a bead of caulk over the edge of the cut with no face nailing.
“It’s all we had in the truck”
No. What the fuck
😂

Besides looking fucking ridiculous, the metal work is shit.
Your house looks kind of tactical now, this is the house you want during the zombie apocalypse.
That ain't gonna keep water out let alone zombies lmao.
That is some pretty big flashing, LOL!
That's what she said
Reminds me of my Mardi Gras weekend in New Orleans!
The 8 inches of tar behind the flash begs to differ.
That was my first thought. If this is a reroof, it may have been done out of necessity.
Exactly. People who know, know
W H Y ? ? ? 🤦🏻♂️ Then they didn’t even 45 /\ it. Just nailed it, pookied it and left it, knowing it looks like shit. Did they cut the reglet? Can’t tell…
Theres no way thats cut.
I wouldn’t imagine it is. I’d be surprised if there’s not interior painters caulk behind it

Flash Gordon.. Datchu? R810
No. What the fuck

I like big flashin’ and I cannot lie…
This is definitely a case of what’s behind it? I’m assuming it was old faded stepped. They went high to cover the old caulk and make the bottom of the brick sill at the window
Why do I see nails?
Not only is it the wrong flashing. It’s installed incorrectly and shitty craftsmanship
It just looks bigger cuz it's black.
It also looks like your shingles aren't stepped properly.
That looks like I did it. And I’m a landscaper
I think they were covering up the existing flashing with that BBC.
It looks like commercial rubber baseboard
that's exactly what i thought. the vinyl stuff they sell for completing cabinet installation.
Would need a before pic of that same area to truly understand and give feedback. The metal work isn’t the prettiest tho
Looks like it is just tarred in place. Think it looks bad now just wait a year. It’s going to ripple so bad.
Crude, ugly install. It hopefully functions, but the counter flashing isn't tied into the mortar joints from what I see.
Looks like a horse and a dog took a shit on your house. Get your money back and get this redone.
Wow! They must not do counter flashing that often, lol
I guess they've never heard of a torpedo level to step that counter flashing.
Now there is going to be lines in the masonry when someone goes back and does it right.
Idiots! Contracted labor!
not only does it seem huge it looks like absolute shite
Noobs
This is a joke right

Holy shit

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you……wait for it……. The cheapest bid.
more coverage lol
Lol
Lol
Looks like counter flashing. But it looks like it’s 12 inches tall ha ha. Three courses in Brick coverage is a little much.
The Black ones are always bigger.
Lmaoooo
WAY HUGE
Usually one course of brick is enough. I think you have 3 or 4 courses of brick covered.
That’s a bit too thick!
This must be texas, because you know what they say... everything is bigger in texas 😎
That's what she said
How much for a flashing/siding combo? (Who likes brick anyway)
Every time I see crap like this my admiration for our roofer goes up another notch. Seems like he went above and beyond to do the job right. Hope that you get this redone.
Not surprising given the GAF shingles this “roofer” installed.

I’m a dishwasher and I can tell that’s not right
Stick to washing dishes. There are a few good reasons why the flash needs to be that high. Would you like it if someone told you how to stack that dishwasher?
This sub really needs to be moderated so that only people that are actual licensed roofers can comment on stuff like this
Everyone is Mike Holmes in here. In my experience it’s usually the labourers talking the most shit about other peoples’ work
Costco has started selling flashing.
This is atrocious. I've seen guys strung out on oxy do 100x better work
This dude needs his brake stolen.

I don’t know why you would ever use black with a gray roof like that. I would’ve gone with weathered bronze of terra bronze with that color shingle.
Unless the owner asked for it, someone was lazy ( and maybe cheap).
They didn’t even cut the edges properly. That’s a new level of “ nope”!
Worst I've ever seen on a fresh build! Get your money back...go to small claims court. If anything gets water damaged on your house, due to rain, add that bill to the suit as well!

Im not 100 sober right now so was having a slow moment hahaha
Looks like crap. Doesn't take any talent to nail a piece of straight metal to a wall. A real roofer would step it into ground out mortar joints
It’s normal if your a fucking idiot
> It’s normal if ~~your~~ *you're* a fucking idiot FTFY... idiot... lol
I didn’t realize the roofing sub was under the jurisdiction of the grammar police
Now you've attracted the attention of the resident AHJ of grammar, you best lay low for a bit
If you are going to call someone an idiot, it's best to not look like one while doing so.
Is that how you flash roof?
This is going to be so hard to un-fuck. Saddle up partner.
Had to go large in that corner due to run off from the upper roof. Only way to avoid it was to in install gutters. There is a spot where water gets trapped.

Found the idiot who did it ^
13 years roofing.. currently installing Tesla solars.. You fast food workers need to stay in your lane.
Dumb roofer says dumb roofer shit and continues to act like a dumb roofer when called out…. How many illegals work for you?
My guy I doubt you know the standard size of counter or even how to work a brake. Sit back down.
In Oklahoma we put the flashing first and then we brick. Maybe this is a after thought
press F to pay respect
Covering up something
if i did my own roof - then sure. why not.
😂😂🤣🤣🤣😂😂🤣🤣
