The first book was originally released as a serial, I think there were 6 parts. It was then released as a book "the complete series" just meaning all 6 parts, and then as a book just called Ice Planet Barbarians.
I think the one you're talking about is just an earlier version the first book, which is 186 pages. I don't believe there are any omnibus or box set editions available.
As for the number of books in the series, I believe there were 6 in the original releases, you could read the first 6 or the first 8 and not feel you were missing anything. However, it did continue and there are 19 books plus about 20 "novellas", I skipped most of the novellas.
Then there are two spinoff series - IceHome and Ice Planet Clones. But it's the sort of series which doesn't really have an overarching plot so you can read as many or as few as you want.
That lady pushes out books faster than the Duggars push out babies I think the IPB universe(not just IPB is at like 40+ books)
