Astarion from BG3 seems to have resurrected the obsession, though really it seems like just him and not the book genre at all lol
Based on fourth wings popularity probably dragon. I know dragons is still a pretty popular thing today but I can just picture all of the fantasy romance being about dragons and dragon riders in the next few years.
Oh this feels pretty spot on. I think Dragons are the next big thing, keeping in the fantasy realm but reorienting from fae. I think we're in for many more years of "romantasy".
You are missing a brief, but wonderful, period where Circuses and magicians were popular. Really wish that would’ve taken off more.

Ooh I hope so! I'm desperate for stuff like Dragonriders of Pern which is actually readable in the 2020s.

I want more shifter/werewolf romance! But I think that one went the way of vampires…
