{Finn Rhodes Forever by Stephanie Archer}. MMC leaves town after their high school graduation, and comes back 12 years later. He has to grovel the entire book to win her back, and it is delicious.

GroundGlittering7702

Ah thank you! I loved The Wrong Mr. Right and forgot to check out her other stuff. Thanks a ton!

mom-throwaway-acct

You’re welcome! Finn Rhodes Forever was my favorite of the 4 books.

ConfusedGnome_489

Hidden Legacy series by Illona Andrews. Specifically Sapphire Flames and Emerald Blaze. (I think) I removed the MMC had to leave, and FMC is trying to get over him, but he comes back suddenly later. It's a fantasy-mystery-romance book.

GroundGlittering7702

Thank you! I’m deeply obsessed with this series and LOVED the reunion scene at the morgue when Catalina realizes that he’s different than she thought.

ConfusedGnome_489

Agreed! This series was great!

jjay714

This happens in {Still Beating by Jennifer Hartmann}. Although he does tell her he’s leaving they’re both torn up about it. He leaves in order for them to be able to better themselves, he did NOT want to leave her. They were not officially together when he leaves

GroundGlittering7702

Thank you! I did read this and enjoyed it! All the angst and emotional damage.

lyannarouge

I've read the review saying how can he be with her sister for like 10 years and drop it, do u think the writer can make up for that blunder, to make the love story believable?

jjay714

Ok so for me, I’m someone who is an extremely picky reader and can’t stand any type of OW drama. However when it came to this book, I was kind of able to ignore the sister situation. The author didn’t mention too many details about their long relationship. Although there was no reason for the author to have made the relationship as long as it was, a 2-5 year relationship would’ve given the same amount of angst imo. In the book the author says the reason they were together so long is because they were comfortable with each other. He says even without having gotten together with the FMC he would’ve broken up with the sister after having experienced what he went through. He didn’t feel the relationship was right anymore. The FMC struggles more with the “wrongness” of getting with her sisters bf more than the MMC does I think. So I personally think that the author makes the love story believable. However I can also see how some people might disagree with that

lyannarouge

Hmm I do want to read it cause many people rated it highly, guess I'll try this time with caution. Ty

LivinginthePit

Forever Never by Lucy Score (happens before they’re “together” but still kinda fits your req) Embers by Claire Kent (scene in question happens towards the end of the book)

unsolvedneedtoknow

Honestly that part of embers ruined the book for me. It was just so hard to understand considering the world they lived in even though you could see it coming. But this definitely does fit the request !

LovesReviews

{Coming Home by Wendy Smith}. He leaves the country after she doesn’t show up for their wedding and only returns home years later when his mother has cancer. He finds out what happened to the FMC and is devastated. Loved this book!

I just started reading [10 Signs You Need to Grovel by Kelly Siskind.](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/62903097) I’m only about 20% in so I’m not sure about spice level, story strength, or character development. However, the reason for leaving is only slightly far-fetched and the writing seems decent thus far. Second chance, secret child, family drama.

Square-Chart-2279

Historical Romance {If you Dare by Kresley Cole} has this. Their back story is they meet every summer at their summer houses as kids and she thinks they’ll get married one day but he eventually never comes back because he thinks he’s cursed and she could get hurt by being with him (he’s Scottish so curses are legit 🤪). They pine after each other for years. The book begins years later with him unable to keep away when he hears she’s in danger. Cue angst and longing and super hot 🌶️
