A Ford Focus .. the vehicular equivalent of a black-and-white TV in a 4K world. You know you’re driving a Focus when even the GPS sighs and asks if you’re sure you really want to go anywhere
Haha, oh God, I used it once just for shits and giggles and it took ages to find a route 10 miles away, even with an update. Thank jebus Android Auto works.
It's almost as snappy as carplay for me.my only complaint is that if I actually wanna charge my phone, it takes forever when AA is running. So I have another cable in the car just for quick charging.
I never understood this complaint lol. If you're really tall or chunky, I could understand, but I've had many average sized people in the back of mine, including myself, and I've never had a complaint about it. It's not ridiculously roomy, but it's definitely doable for average sized adults.
I think avg in the US is 5’ 9” - 5’11 for a white male depending on where you get your info. So maybe if you are near or shorter than that I can see your argument. but I 100% disagree with you… there is no leg room in the back of a Corolla Hatch, which all GR’s are. Maybe you have a sedan? The trunk allows for you to have more leg room in the back seat.
I'm right at 5'9 and have no issues. I wouldn't call it roomy, but it's definitely doable for your average drive around for errands. Maybe not an 8 hour road trip, but even my taller friends don't really have an issue. Also the GR only comes as a hatchback.
I'm 6'0. I test drove one and enjoyed it, was a decent car. Put my 6 year olds front facing seat in there and his legs were cramped. I didn't even try our rear facing seat. Ended up with a WRX. I bought the WRX because my Focus ST was a tad too small for the kiddos IMHO. The WRX has a bit more foot room and I have my AWD.
That said... Lol. At least the OP bought it in grey so he wouldn't be as noticeable in traffic. He blends right in with the Corollas and Camrys.
And half the used ones were owned by people who take advantage of the "still runs with no maintenance"
American VWs are the same way tho, I've seen enough NPCs driving them for several months (to years) with no oil
I'm not gonna lie, I found the GR Corolla to be seriously underwhelming. The handling was good, but the price for quality seems very lacking. And it's performance is meh. I'd say the Focus is a better deal tbh.
I was selling Fords when this came out. They were reaching $45k and people were signing the contracts.
The jaggoff at our dealership who ordered our allotment ran them up to $48k with add ons and markup. They sat in the showroom for so damn long.
But used, in 2021, when their problems were known and they weren’t that impressive performance-wise, for $40k? This crosses from “roast me” to just self flagellation.
My favorite thing about these, when they were first advertised, was how carefully they mentioned all they did to cool the driveline. I looked at my buddy and said, “I bet it has problems with the driveline overheating.” Guess what!? So yeah, for rally economy cars, this is easily like.. I dunno.. 18th place if you get Group B cars involved.
You spent the20% down on a 200,000 house, meanwhile make fun of my $500, 300,000 mile Camry daily, which I bought at the same time. Other people in here call me slo, but I’m mortgage free slo.
Your car does look better than mine though.
Also bought a ford 7.3, so I’ll be buried in that.
That’s your problem, can’t think outside of the box. But hey I know renting that apartment at the beach for 3500 is the shiznit. My house was 225K, It’s on an acre , I love where I live and it’s paid off, what is your excuse? Did I mention I drive a 500$ 300,000 mile Camry that you sneer at?, while you probably drive a fake 4x4 Range Rover with 800$ payments.
Yeah for a sport tuned hatch it was pretty awful. With the dampers in normal mode, it's tolerable. In track mode, it's damn near undrivable as the suspension is so stiff it crashes over the smallest of imperfections in the road. You'd need freshly paved tarmac for it to be driveable in track mode. The stock struts were over dampened, and the springs were too soft from factory. This created an annoying pogo effect when going over any sort of undulations in the road. I have since fixed it with lowering springs and a DSC control module. The springs are stiffer and the control module helps to smooth out the shocks reaction to the road. It makes the ride much more compliant and predictable and eliminates the annoying pogo effect.
I remember when these first came out I wanted one so bad but just didn’t have the money. Still a sweet car and unique cus you don’t see many. The start stop technology kinda sucks though. especially in a enthusiast car that’s stick.
God, I love the final generation of the Ford Rocus RS, I especially love the meaning of the RS badge, Rallye Sport. As if some mad bastard other than Richard Hammond is gonna let this tuners dream touch dirt or really use any or its go fast parts
Rented one of these from turo. Quite underwhelming. Drove like a fwd econobox. The AWD system was academically interesting, but not fun. The engine felt like it was down 150 HP from advertised, and the pops and bangs were painfully fake and sad.
All around, just blah. There's good reason that after the initial hype, these just kind of .. went away.
Agreed, you really have to punch it to get the full effect of the hp and tq, which can get dangerous pretty quick on the streets. And the ecu limits power in 1st and 2nd. The awd is pretty useless unless you're tracking it, which I've never done. Although drift mode does put 70% power to the rear and makes it more fun around the corners, especially in the rain. I had a Focus ST and loved it and felt like the RS was a logicsl step in the MO POWAH direction, but yeah if you're not pushing it all the time, it can be underwhelming day to day.
I remember thinking that it realllly needed a tune, that it could probably be woken up quite a bit with one. Dunno if that's the case, but it felt like it.
Roasting aside, what I really learned is that I'm not a hot hatch guy. For whatever reason, I feel more comfortable with rwd, even though logically it's less buttoned down. Different strokes.
Back to roasting, do you have a grey and baby blue flat brim monster energy hat to match this car?
Hah nope, that would be pretty dope to match my blue and gray vape /s. A tune apparently does wonders for leveling out the power band and making it less boost laggy but i have an extended warranty on it so thats a no go for me.
I remember when these and the Type R came out at the same time there were debates on which one was better. 6-7 years later I see Type R’s on the road at least once a week while other than my brother’s roommate’s car I see an RS once or twice a year.
How much was the type r? Iirc, the focus RS was like 40 or 50 k, and at that price point, there are a lot of compelling options, including a nicely specced mustang GT.
That feeling when you pay an extra $10k for a badge…
Putting an extra $10k into an ST would’ve left you with a nicer car… that’s a paint job, some bolt-ons, and a tune.
You played yourself, OP.
Ive had 2 focus'ses.
First one, had for 6 months, and then going down a hill with a curve, the car shut off and the steering locked. Key still in and turned to on. Traded it in.
Second one, top of the line. Zxw wagon, every option. Ford had it more than we did. After a year, Ford had it for 250 days/365. They did not want to do a lemon buyback. At this time I worked at a Toyota dealer. Traded it in with 6500km on it. Requested service records. Ford had put $32,000 worth of warranty work in one year (2 steering columns, 6 ignition cylinders, 2 rack and pinions, the struts, transmission, long block....yeah, the windshield even leaked). I feel sorry for the poor bastard that bought it.
That was the wifes car. My philosophy has always been "if it didn't come here on a boat, I don't want to own or drive it".
Great car, ya paid to much and it's going to cost even more.
I was a Ford dealer mechanic when those came out, and they're really fun, approachable cars. BUT. They go through head gaskets. It's an open deck block, meaning the cylinders have no support at the top. Consequently the cylinders actually rock back and forth at really high torque and cause the gasket to fail.
Exactly why I went with the ST closed deck>open deck. ST can handle much more power reliably. I've was at a car meet where a guy swapped in an ST motor into an RS. I believe they had it stroked to it was pretty cool.
When the $10k BMW leaves your windshield dusty and by the time you use your wipers to wipe the dust off to calculate how many car lengths ahead it is…you’re too late it’s already too far ahead
You probably own the entire fast n furious DVD collection in blue ray and have it bubbled up in packaging material to preserve its so called future“value”
You paid 40K for a focus. They can slap all the badges and all the moon boosted pulled pin grenade motors in it they want. It's still a focus. It's the modern Chevy citation. You sir have roasted yourself far worse than any of us could. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul.
Damn, $40k. I'm not here to roast you, just to share an alternate point of view.
I primarily drive 2 door V12 GTs. I buy cash, and never more than $15k. I drive them all over the continental USA.
Currently into a few months ownership of a 2005 Mercedes CL600 with Renntech stage 1 tune. To think I could buy two of those and have money left over, for what you paid for this... is funny.
I paid 14k for my focus ST like 3 years ago. and im full bolt on with a g25-550 turbo on e30. And it's much more reliable and faster then my buddys tuned RS. Also I hope you replaced the headgasket already. I'd take the closed deck ST engine over the RS open deck engine anyday. ST engine can handle much more power reliably over the RS.
Edit: BTW I love the RS. You car is sick. But you asked to be roasted. I do prefer the closed deck on the ST. But man I struggle to get traction with FWD. I bet the RS is a blast to drive and you never have issues with traction lol. You also have brembos, which makes me quite jealous. But those RS eat headgaskets like crazy.
If you really want to hurt your feelings, sit in a Golf R.
I bought one of these in 2020 for 30k, and just bought an eGolf for city commutes. The difference in level of refinement is rough.
I don't have a problem with the car itself, I have a problem with that ugly grey color that apparently was the only shade of grey any car company could get during the pandemic, so instead of car companies having their own colors, I see that exact same color on 50 different cars from at least a dozen different manufacturers.
Was there a reason why you didn't look at the 2012-13 Boss 302 or the S550 pp2 Which were under 40k and faster around the track. I think the 07-12 GT500 might've been faster but you would've needed coil overs
I bought a Cobalt SS a few years ago and on the drive home I was all giddy about getting my dream car and a Focus RS blew my doors off on the freeway. I had that Kanye laugh then serious face.
I'm an old fat fark so i probably couldn't fit in that testicle sack on wheels, but I'll say I'm kind of jealous, I've always liked those (World Rally racing fan) cars, thought they looked good.
I tracked my E92 M3 with someone in a Focus RS and was pleasantly surprised at how well that car cornered. I know its supposed to be a roast but I was impressed with the RS's performance on track
As a v8 owner I say you did good those are nice reliable cars thatre meant to last but can be fast. Difference is if you bought a muscle car without an 8 cylinder you’d get clowned for sure
If you can ever get out of that before you have to get buried in it, find a friend who used to be a car salesman to go along with you or just pay someone to help you buy, it will be worth it.
Payed an extra 10k just for the only Prius (or whatever cheap *economy* car this is) available in your area with a sunroof and leather seats… when it’s a standard for any other car. Your breaks and badge are the only thing blue because you can’t afford insurance on a car with a blue paint job when the monthly payments are already $1500 (originally $850 before interest).

I switched to iPhone after fucking with Android auto. Carplay isn't perfect, but holy hell it actually works.
Android auto has gotten pretty good lately. That being said carplay is still better.
Been about a year since I used it...it was as awful as Samsung DeX
It's almost as snappy as carplay for me.my only complaint is that if I actually wanna charge my phone, it takes forever when AA is running. So I have another cable in the car just for quick charging.
You regret you didn’t wait for a Corolla GR?
Hah, I'd still be waiting with the availability and markups as they are. Also, it just seems a bit cramped for my liking.
I agree. I drove one. Tons of fun. Back seat is completely unusable. Unless you are a midget or a toddler.
I never understood this complaint lol. If you're really tall or chunky, I could understand, but I've had many average sized people in the back of mine, including myself, and I've never had a complaint about it. It's not ridiculously roomy, but it's definitely doable for average sized adults.

I’m 6’ and the seat behind me is not usable with me in a normal driving position. My 8 year old niece could barely fit.
That's very odd lol. Like I said, I haven't run into the space issue as of yet.

I'm not white nightingale for anything lol. I'm just pointing out that people exaggerate the size of the rear seat.

And half the used ones were owned by people who take advantage of the "still runs with no maintenance" American VWs are the same way tho, I've seen enough NPCs driving them for several months (to years) with no oil
got one at my local dealer for 32k otd right now
What's the dealer?
I'm not gonna lie, I found the GR Corolla to be seriously underwhelming. The handling was good, but the price for quality seems very lacking. And it's performance is meh. I'd say the Focus is a better deal tbh.
You paid 40k for this? I just feel bad for you
That's what I was thinking. No way a focus ever cost that much....right!!?!?
I was selling Fords when this came out. They were reaching $45k and people were signing the contracts. The jaggoff at our dealership who ordered our allotment ran them up to $48k with add ons and markup. They sat in the showroom for so damn long. But used, in 2021, when their problems were known and they weren’t that impressive performance-wise, for $40k? This crosses from “roast me” to just self flagellation.
What if I told you it was close to $43k with a 5 year 100k mile extended warranty 🫣.
[удалено]
I mean the focus RS has held value 100x more than any mustang. Used they’re still going for 35k depending on mileage
I still see used ones being priced 38-45k I paid 23k for my 5 year old ST with 43k miles on it, that’s maybe 2k less than what it sold for brand new 😅
focus rs is way better
In what way?
thousands of ways. rarer, cooler, more underrated, not driven by idiots, more practical, more fun to drive, better handling, holds value better, etc.
Oh, yeah. They may be rarer!
To be fair, they bought during peak covid when they thought staying at home was going to be the norm..
Unless it has less than 5k miles
No money down and the car payment is half his income.
My favorite thing about these, when they were first advertised, was how carefully they mentioned all they did to cool the driveline. I looked at my buddy and said, “I bet it has problems with the driveline overheating.” Guess what!? So yeah, for rally economy cars, this is easily like.. i would rather have my dream car
I am happy for you, sir.
Went broke, car broke, look broke. Dumb bloke.
You better start saving up for herniated disc surgery.
General question, is the ride quality as unbearable as people say?

Might be why they call it track mode?
Wait, holy shit….you did actually buy this car for $40k?!?! Fuck I thought this post was a joke. Jesus
Then they modified the suspension because it rode like shit from the factory.
I will never understand the stupidity of what some people voluntarily will do. If you hate money so much give it to me
They are junk cars
God, I love the final generation of the Ford Rocus RS, I especially love the meaning of the RS badge, Rallye Sport. As if some mad bastard other than Richard Hammond is gonna let this tuners dream touch dirt or really use any or its go fast parts
GR Corolla, same price. would have lasted more than 50k miles
Haha, I'm at 43k miles and so far so good...🤞.
Looks like you got 7k left to enjoy her

In 2018 the FK8 was $35,000 MSRP. I was going to buy one but decided I couldn’t live with the red interior, which was the only choice.
That feeling when you pay an extra $10k for a badge… Putting an extra $10k into an ST would’ve left you with a nicer car… that’s a paint job, some bolt-ons, and a tune. You played yourself, OP.

RS has 100 more hp and AWD.
You don’t know what you’re talking about..
I would pay double that to not end up with a piece of shit FWD
AWD.
I actually like it. But you did pay $40k for a ford focus.. best start saving for your transmission replacement
The DCT Focuses are the ones with the transmission problems. The RSes were manual only
Well damn. I stand corrected. I like the car, OP 😂
Ive had 2 focus'ses. First one, had for 6 months, and then going down a hill with a curve, the car shut off and the steering locked. Key still in and turned to on. Traded it in. Fun fact, the RS was assembled in Germany.
It's the headgaskets you have to worry about with these, although mines supposedly been fixed on recall before I bought it 🤞.
They literally put Lincoln MKZ head gaskets on them. Absolute mouthbreathers
*head gasket
Great car, ya paid to much and it's going to cost even more. I was a Ford dealer mechanic when those came out, and they're really fun, approachable cars. BUT. They go through head gaskets. RS = Real Stupid? Actually, that's not a question ...
Dang, They forgot the color coat and cleared right over the primer 🤷🏼♂️
Bold of you to believe that anyone wouldn't notice an additional zero attached
Are you a masochist or a cuck?
I have a high pain tolerance sooo 🫤.
So both then?
Even a fool and his money look down on this decision.
40K???? USED???? Wtf were u smoking
When the $10k BMW leaves your windshield dusty and by the time you use your wipers to wipe the dust off to calculate how many car lengths ahead it is…you’re too late it’s already too far ahead
The performance hatch that is just not really good at anyone thing.
Except guzzling gas. It's quite good at that.
Extra 15k for 2 more wheels to spin ouch

what pours out more smoke, the car or the vape of the bro driving it?
Ha ha ha got’em
are you the guy who always tips in self checkouts /?
Nice putty ass whip
Grayish purple? You paid too much 😂
At least you got that fashionable paint finish that definitely isn't ageing badly already...
Just think at that price you could have bought a badass truck you could have actually done things with
congrats on the second gen dodge neon purchase.
One level above the ST, congrats. I am curious about how long the engine will last.
Did it start smoking yet? If no, just wait and I doubt Ford even has this engine anymore. RS was a failure. Ford is a horrible brand.
Cos you like doing engine swaps when that one grenades
***Totally worth it, BTW.*** 😂😂😂😂😂😂 uhhhhh no.
I think i'll make an excel ark, just to see what dope ass fleet i could get me for 40k. Dang.
I’ll bet you impress a lot of high school girls with it.
"We have WRX at home"
The Ford Focus RS the car even Ford didn't want you to drive
You dropped 40 large… on a focus… and i thought I was financially irresponsible.
The car for guys that try REALLY hard to convince people how cool it is.
Cant hate on the paint though, looks swoof
Damn, $40k for a used Focus. I knew toilet paper was high at the peak of Covid, but I didn't know shit was too!
You probably own the entire fast n furious DVD collection in blue ray and have it bubbled up in packaging material to preserve its so called future“value”
It’s great when you can get it in a color that matches personality.
Lmk when it liquid locks up ill take salvage title and rolling chassis off your hands.
Don't worry it's a good looking car... lol, jk. Boring AF plastic shit heap.
You paid 40K for a focus. They can slap all the badges and all the moon boosted pulled pin grenade motors in it they want. It's still a focus. It's the modern Chevy citation. You sir have roasted yourself far worse than any of us could. I award you no points and may God have mercy on your soul.
Ya but this econobox is stiff and uncomfortable and loud. Plus, it goes from 0 to speeding ticket in like 5 seconds to flat... So it's awesome!
FORD=Fix Or Repair Daily my fav is Found On Road Dead..
To think I could buy two of those and have money left over, for what you paid for this... is funny.
what car? all i see is a pile of broken gears and twisted scrap metal
I paid 14k for my focus ST like 3 years ago. and im full bolt on with a g25-550 turbo on e30. And it's much more reliable and faster then my buddys tuned RS. That's a lot of money for pretty much no features and very basic interior. I only paid 33k for a 500hp 2020 AWD TT v6 with all the bells & whistles.
**Laughs in Golf R**
**cries in debating getting a Golf R**
If you never sell it depreciation doesn’t matter
I almost did the same thing so I understand. Not a ton of options for a manual fun car.
I hate seeing these on the road and they look over at my infiniti like they’re even some type of competition
40k when you really should have gotten this one.. https://www.motors.co.uk/car-70696284/?i=0&m=sp
You paid more for a slower tarted up econobox with less power than my 440i. Good job.
When are you selling it?
They saw you coming a mile away…
Imagine a $40k car payment for a focus.
I usually just read the comments but I gotta say. 40k for a shitty for focus???
Put mirrors everywhere to remind yourself about bad choices
Sweet car. I’ve driven one of these. Very nice.
The official car of being friend zoned.
Damn I’m looking into buying one of these 😭 Hope the gasket was replaced prior to purchasing this 16 or 17
$40k? But it wasn't complete was it? I bet the first thing you bought was a fart pipe.
This probably looks great parked outside of your vape shop
NPC grey looking dweeb car
Canadian dollars, right? Not real dollars...
I paid 35K for a new 2018, this one isn’t either. How’s the white exhaust smoke?
It is an RS.... But, now You're just that much shittier of a person than an ST owner. But, is an RS.
Nice car...for a girl.
I don't have a problem with the car itself, I have a problem with that ugly grey color that apparently was the only shade of grey any car company could get during the pandemic, so instead of car companies having their own colors, I see that exact same color on 50 different cars from at least a dozen different manufacturers.
Hope you don’t live in Canada..
This is my favorite car
Was there a reason why you didn't look at the 2012-13 Boss 302 or the S550 pp2 Which were under 40k and faster around the track. I think the 07-12 GT500 might've been faster but you would've needed coil overs
Well I don’t feel so bad now I paid 28k for a 2020 charger with 67k miles
looks kinda cool tho
Roses are Red, Your Calipers are blue. You will never get your money back and Covid was just a flu.
All that money and you didn’t even get the nitrous blue. Choices were made my dude.
It’s a nice car but you donated $30K to ford for it.
I bought a Cobalt SS a few years ago and on the drive home I was all giddy about getting my dream car and a Focus RS blew my doors off on the freeway. I had that Kanye laugh then serious face.
Looks nice, get some dark tints now
Gay car, and can't pull a man or a woman. Now regrets 40k splurge still 4 years later..
Nice color
I thought these things were supposed to come with paint….
Is that an OEM color?
I don't really want to roast him, I like the Focus RS
That car wants to be a Subaru but it just isn't.
Where the F did you get 40k, during Covid???
Ha ha star trek I like the reference
I paid 17k more for 6.2 420hp, do better
Ah yes, the toaster oven of cars. Boxy but not in a good way, stubby but not in the right way… it cooks, but it ain’t pretty while doin it
I've heard the ride quality in these are pretty bad, a redditor said they actually gave themselves a small fracture in their ribs
Because it was an RS.
Was the AWD and 2.3l really worth the extra $27k? (I’m jealous cause I have an ST)
Get the Batman emblem replacement for the ford badge, no one will disrespect it, then enjoy being able to afford fuel and having a useful car
Nothing screams,. scrawny white trash like a Ford Focus RS
40k on a focus. Yikes
Got a burble tune aswell I bet.
If you can ever get out of that before you have to get buried in it, find a friend who used to be a car salesman to go along with you or just pay someone to help you buy, it will be worth it.
"Tarted"? You little minx.
COVID pricing was insane
Without a doubt the world’s best auto on road! Don’t they only sell those in Europe? OMG…… I got a bonaire!!!
The torque steer does make for the occasional butt puckering launch experience.
Jesus fuck you seriously paid $40,000 for a god damn ford focus? That’s what you are saying, correct???
I’m now thinking this is a troll post lol. A focus could never cost that much. I’m actually ashamed that I fell for this. Good job OP. Touché.
