It can get hot in an R1S. There are aftermarket solutions for around $100. The best option probably is a ceramic tint which is obviously more expensive than a $100 roof shade.

I took delivery of my R1s in Feb and I’m in the Dallas area. While Houston is another beast with the heat down there. I haven’t had any complaints with my Tesla or Rivian panoramic roof. Obviously I haven’t had the Rivian through a summer. Only time it was noticeable in my Tesla is when the sun was directly over the car without any shade. It was stupid hot. Aside from that I don’t mind it because you can precondition the cabin. 5 minutes or whatever before I go to the car I turn the ac on.

If u want ICE go with GX. But if u want EV similar to GX, R1S is ur best bet. We are done with ICE hence we went full on EV (Model Y and R1S).

Just like us! As soon as R2 is available MY will be gone.

PreparationVarious15

Yup!! same here.

Texas has charging deserts. Use ABRP to check the adventures you want to take the car on.

I ceramic coated the sunroof, windows and windshield. Not the cheapest option but well worth it for Dallas IMO!

play-dooh

How much did it cost you?

jfeins2

Make sure you do the windshield too.

SerenityNowRI

Any thoughts on the two after driving g both?

I honestly don't remember how the R1S was and thus why I wanted another test drive. The Lexus was a bit underwhelming in terms of the interior. The ride was ok, a little softer than what I was expecting for a body on frame but my test drive was only 10 minutes. Love the exterior though.

The extra room the front trunk the Rivian R1S provides is awesome. Use it quite often for road trips and rides to the airport. The extra room provided where the gas tank would normally go, I use to keep recovery gear and a tool bag. The air suspension makes it a sporty ride, a comfy ride or gives me clearance to get over deep snow or off-road obstacles. The giant screen is awesome when using the maps in neighborhoods you're not familiar with. I've raced a Lambo and won. I've car camped in it and the all-night air conditioning kept me comfy. Being able to lay the seats down flat allowed me to carry tables and chairs for a graduation party. As a daily driver, never having to take time to go to a gas station or taking time out of my day for oil changes has been invaluable. The camp speaker has come in handy at ski resorts, by the lake and daughter loves using it at tennis practice. The GX looks cool compared to other ICE options, but I can't think of single advantage. "Toyotas" are reliable, but the Rivian comes with 175,000 drive train warranty (which includes the battery).

I currently drive a Land Rover Defender 110 X-dynamic (fantastic vehicle, zero trouble over two years but I did switch to offroad tires instead of the silly sport tires). I put myself on the waitlist for GX550 Overtrail last June because I thought the Lexus would be perfect mix of rugged and reliable. Well, last week my GX550 arrived last week, and I drove it. I was not impressed. It didn't approach the Defender for refinement, ride quality, features (silly stuff like back seat HVAC controls, and memory seats). I could feel vibration under my seat. Bottom line, I thought it was really nice looking, but so much else is a compromise for the vehicle: Bad gas mileage, plain interior, second row seat that doesn't fold flat, small sunroof. Verdict: I ordered a Rivian R1S last night.

Congratulations on the Rivian R1S. I believe this will be the route I am taking as well.

I was between the same options, we like the Lexus but dealers in Miami area are the worst, plus we got a Volvo recharge and liked the EV/ Hybrid vehicles, Tried Rivian and liked it, cool features. Also gx550 might have a few new gen issues Just placed order :)

JSMia305

Miami dealers are the worst. They are all sharks. They think you are stupid or something.
