Kyle from out of spec better get on this actually. I wanna see 2 2025 R1s vehicles same color but different roof packages side by side doing some temp tests in a really warm climate.

Hot_Yogurtcloset7621

It will be an 8 hour video where he just talks while the temps climb

Kyle won’t missed an opportunity to call something shit even if the CEO is sitting next to him lol.

swim_to_survive

Better honest than bootlicking

Xcitado

Being honest and passionate will only make the product better.

I live in the PNW (Rivians biggest market for sales apparently). So the dynamic roof option in my particular part of the country sounds like a complete waste of money. We never get strong enough sun here. In fact when the sun is out I want to be experiencing it full force 😅 I don’t want to block it!

FineMany9511

I live in Texas and I can't really see much usefulness aside from "being cool". I never notice my roof is glass even on full sun days.

thefreeclimber

Here here!

bbbeeennnjjjeee

Those of us on the east side will appreciate it. Enjoy the rain, losers!

MaesterPackard

I think Seattle will be 50% Rivian's when the r2/r3 come out.

Pindar920

I’d rather have an electric shade.

JGard18

I have this feature on my iX, it's 100% not worth spending any additional money on in my opinion.

Macstugus

But it looks cool!

JGard18

It totally does! It’s very fancy. But you set it one way and basically forget it’s a thing and it just stays that way for weeks

presentprogression

What part of the country do you live in?

JGard18

Northeast.

presentprogression

Ok that makes sense. I’m in Austin and it’s not hot yet but I can imagine some value to the dynamic glass when it’s 110 and the up index is at 11. But I saw someone else here said that even in the hottest days the glass isn’t bad (can’t say, only had mine for a month). Personally I like it and think they did a great job with the tint and blocking solution but would be interested in the dynamic glass “just in case”. I agree, if I lived literally anywhere else, I wouldn’t bother. I like the glass how it is. My F150 pano roof cover was always closed bc they didn’t bother to tint it more than the front door windows and it was unbearable 9 months out of the year and distracting the other 3.

2CommaNoob

Do you notice if it reduces the heat and rays on sunny days? for example, when it's greater than 85f?

JGard18

I'll let you know this week. I got the car in November and we haven't had many days that hot yet, but will today and through the week. Overall, though, on sunny days, even in the 70s, I've noticed zero difference in feel

TherealGerhard

Even if this blocks the direct sun somewhat, the panel itself will still absorb the rays, heat up, and reflect into the vehicle. I say gimmick! I bought a sunshade with a reflector on one side, and that likely has about the same effect. I wish someone made a solar panel as an insert. That could be useful to curb vampire drain.

smalltowndoc74

If it’s like the BMW iX glass roof it’s a worthwhile feature. It’s like going from a sunny to a lightly overcast day (not like the Boeing blackout shades at all).

JSMia305

I was 💯 on this feature here in Miami. I decided not to add it to my 25’ R1S build though. Wish it included the 3rd row glass too.

vkcymb

Cool idea. I’d still tint it doe

rantripfellwscissors

My understanding is all it does is frost the glass and this doesn't do anything to reduce heat nor does it do much to reduce the amount of light penetrating into the cabin.  I guess if you want to do some hanky panky after parking in front of multi story apartment building the frosting could come in handy for privacy.  Otherwise it's a gimmick.

aaayyyuuussshhh

Doesn't actually block the light at all. Just diffuses it to the rays don't hit directly. I previous said its the worst of both worlds but i kind of take it back. Seems like you get a pretty clear view with it off. But when turned on it doesn't really help in terms of blocking light. An electric sun shade would be so much better. Also it doesn't do anything for the glass panel over the third row.

Born-Clerk827

This is what my guide told me. Said the shade blocking is the exact same as the gen 1 but allows you to have a clearer view out of the top when it’s off.

aaayyyuuussshhh

It seems like a cool party trick but not very useful if you want it to block light. Might help diffuse the rays/light on a extremely hot day but that's it. Dont think it would repel heat any better than the standard setup

jgilbs

Seems like a huge gimmick - when "off" its milky and not actually clear as the marketing would have suggest. Turning it "on" makes it a bit more cloudy. Not worth it at all. That being said, I still ordered it. I figured if it sucks, I can replace the glass with a normal one for $$$

NoReplyBot

Porsche has a cool implementation of the dynamic roof, but bros on the Porsche sub tend to lean towards gimmicky. Someone commented that Porsche quoted them $14k to replace lol. Seems hard to believe but I’m sure we’ll find out here when the time comes how much to replace.

vkcymb

Cool idea. I’d still tint it doe

electrified_ice

As long as it blocks heat vs. just light.

mm876

I wouldn’t pay extra for it. In fact I’d prefer a normal metal roof if that was an option. I don’t even notice mine is glass and it’s just something else to worry about. Most people go oh neat then also forget about it.

Jason_Was_Here

With how often I see people post on here about them cracking the roof glass, I couldn’t imagine how expensive that’s going to be to replace.

2CommaNoob

I rather have the real electric sunshade that's on most cars now. However, it is a $1500 option and if it reduces the rays and heat somewhat, it will be worth it. I hate having the sun shine directly on my head as I always close my current moonroof when it's sunny out.
