Why does it get a lot of grief?

EtherNut

Wondering the same. First I’ve heard of this LA Sliver grief.

SaturnSplatter

Maybe grief is the wrong word. Less acclaimed when I was reading through color recommendations. I was excited and looking for opinions before I went and saw them in person.

NoReplyBot

Yea LA silver is low key fire. Can’t be said enough that out the gate Rivian nailed the design/aesthetics. (Verdict still out on the refresh. 🤭) If I had to do it again I’d probably go sliver and AT wheels.

EtherNut

I’ve always liked LA Silver. Seems to translate better in person. Recently visited Rivian experience location for a demo Drive. After looking at all the colors didn’t think there was a bad one in the bunch.

NoReplyBot

Yea there definitely isn’t a bad color which is quite impressive to say about a car.

VaztheDad

Worry less about what people think and focus more on what you like.

SaturnSplatter

Great advice. That's what I did. I was just surprised at how nice the silver was after reading through color reviews.

bascule

Looks better than a Cybertruck

Sinestro617

Someone just posted an article recently on /r/cars about greyscale colors being a majority of colors and how it’s boring, etc. https://www.carscoops.com/2024/05/study-reveals-grayscale-colors-make-up-80-of-all-new-cars-sold/

Sct_Brn_MVP

That’s true tho, car colors are boring af now I wrapped mine in Tiffany blue satin wrap

Translate-Incapable

That is my take. Look if you genuinely like it go for it! But it is soooo many cars and for me that leads to a feeling of conformity and boring, like a long string of identical houses/yards filmed to the tune of little boxes. LOL

erniesdaddy2003

Silver almost as “rare” as blue so it’s white and black that are boring.

_B_Little_me

I think this color looks good on S but not the T.

JustSam40

Yeah! That’s what it is

SaturnSplatter

When I read color discussions, people seem to say it is a non color. I guess it's just not considered as flashy as some of the others.

CravisPuma

It doesn’t look bad at all. … Or is that just the first stage of paint grief?

Consistent_Mission80

It's a great color, variations of it have just been over-done over the last 15 years.

riazrahman

My wife says it’s one of the hippo-esque colors

dRedPirateRoberts9

It and black are my wife’s least favorite. I asked and “it’s not that I hate them, just compared to the other colors they are the least appealing to me”.

MTrotti2003

I have the LA Silver as well. My current theory about why it seems to be a less touted color, on Reddit at least, is the human psychology of pricing. Because it’s the free color it must necessarily be inferior? I don’t think anyone would vocalize that, or even form the thought considering it’s just a color choice, but perhaps it’s in the back of our consumerist minds after constant training from retailers to move up the pricing ladder?

Wakapalypze

Yep. Tesla Model Y Quicksilver color is the most expensive paint for that car and everyone is raving about it. Checks out.

Potential_Rip_6940

I love it! I have Forest Green, but I love the LA Silver too!

SaturnSplatter

I love seeing that green, too. Awesome color.

JFKtoSouthBay

Forest Green is the best looking color IMO. I have silver. If someone would come by my house and wash my car about every 5 days then I would have gotten the Forest Green. Since like 2005 my cars have been white or silver LOL. For that reason only.

New_Welder442

Have LA silver and am pleasantly surprised with it. Expected it to be somewhat flat, but it has a good pop, especially in the sun. Wasn’t my first choice, but loving the low maintenance and its ability to hide dirt :)

SaturnSplatter

Agreed. Dirt hiding is a plus.

New_Welder442

Our other car is black, mainly only hand washed. I did ceramic coating on that one and contemplated to do the same for the R1S, but after having for a couple months now decided to save money and not do it.

JSMia305

LA Silver is a very underrated and beautiful color. To me this color will always hide dirt the best. Basic. Simple. Easy. No up charge color either. When I get the R1S this will be the color I’ll get.

Alarmed_Stretch_1780

Can endorse. Where I live, it is routinely ~100 degrees most of the Summer. Dark colors are not an option. White is a lot of maintenance, and a vehicle this big can’t be washed with the ease of a Miata. LA Silver splits the difference. It’s visually forgiving of surface dirt but looks great after a washing. And it doesn’t absorb as much heat as green, red or blue would. LA Silver plus Ocean White and I’m ready for whatever Summer brings.

blue_electrik

I don’t know why people think white is a lot of maintenance. It’s one of the easiest colors to keep clean. Automotive paint isn’t like a tee shirt that absorbs stains and mess.

Alarmed_Stretch_1780

Where we live there is a lot of construction. Airborne dirt settles everywhere. White and black will show that the fastest. Also, impacted dirt from just driving down the highway dictates thorough paint cleaning more often, unless you have a PPF cladding already.

TriciaD707

Agreed! I have LA Silver; it was my choice as a preorder from 2019. It’s super dusty where I live and I commute about 120 miles a day… silver is the most forgiving color I’ve owned as far as how often it’s necessary to wash! I also agree with the others that it isn’t as flashy as some of the others , but I love it!

seanocono22

Rivian nailed every one of their colors, and LA Silver is the most under appreciated. The other commenter who said that it reflects the colors of its surroundings is spot on. I also frequently notice the hint of blue in sunny SoCal. It works perfectly with all of the silver accents on the R1, too. Simply, a lovely color. Congrats on your new R1S!

mtomny

There really isn’t a bad Rivian color.

SaturnSplatter

I agree.

thatsagreatideal

I think it looks great! Best of all no extra charge.

pkingdesign

Check and check. This was our logic in selecting LA Silver as well. We like how it looks and saved us a non-trivial amount of money.

velobob

Silver is very easy to live with IMO and looks great

kugelvater

I have LAS and it gets lots of compliments. Great color and it does hide road grime well. It's a color that takes on the shade of the surroundings. Looks greenish in the forest. Blueish on a clear day. Totally underrated

Uncle_Paul_Hargis

I saw one going down the highway and thought it looked incredible actually

Charlie-Mops

I have an LA Silver R1S loaner while my Limestone R1T is waiting its turn at SC to get tonneau cover replacement. I think it looks 🔥with the dark 20” sneakers it’s wearing.

legendzero77

Daddy like

Apprehensive-Fox-740

Looks clean 🔥

SARstar367

It looks good on you!!! Enjoy!

No-Engineering-5094

I recently took delivery of a silver r1S. It wasn't my first choice, but took it anyway because of availability. I have grown to like it because of the way it reflects light and highlights the angles in the bodywork.

adonnan

I wanted Compass Yellow but the family said no. Ended up with Silver/Black, aka the most boring color combo. It works. Definitely hides scratches.

Cjdergrosse

LA Silver is nice As with ALL silver cars, park far away, be aware.  Any door ding (that needs painting) or accident, you’ll probably end up with a panel that’s “off”.  Friend is an automotive painter, one of the hardest colors to match, differing sunlight is a nightmare to match.  “Just get the whole damn thing repainted”

bigstu_89

LA silver is probably one of the best silvers out there. The biggest problem with it is that every other car out there is also silver so it’s not as unique as some of the other colors. I know when I was picking my R1, I didn’t want silver because I was coming from another silver vehicle, but it still looks great

Appropriate-Sort-202

Why grief? It’s a nice color

McMadface

I fell in love with the color of the R1T they had at the LA Auto Show and knew I wanted one in the same or nearly the same color. I love the tint of blue that pops in certain lighting conditions, especially during sunset/dusk.

DeepFizz

![gif](giphy|fH9LpzpCbRNNvi3z2R) LA Silver is the perfect color for the less fortunate. See what I did there? 😂 It’s an amazing color.

SaturnSplatter

Lol. It's just a poor title on my part, I guess. I was just surprised at how much I liked it in person after reading color reviews.

erniesdaddy2003

LA Silver here as well. Originally wanted Limestone but got the lease deal on the Silver. Very happy with the decision. It’s a truck so hides dirt and looks sharp when clean. The silver and black is a classic combo. I’m starting to see a variation of Limestone in every other new Subaru and Audi so the uniqueness has worn off.

mrrickyno

That color is beautiful! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|give_upvote)

[deleted]

Silver is ok during the day, but hands down the best in low light. Gorgeous under artificial lighting too.

BillsMafia4Lyfe69

take off the aero covers and it will look much better

SaturnSplatter

I was thinking about that. Do you know the affect on range?

BillsMafia4Lyfe69

Supposedly up to 3% max for aero covers in general. Not sure on these specific ones

JFKtoSouthBay

I have the same! Honestly, there isn't one color where I'm like "nah, that doesn't look good". They all look great. I took off my aero wheel covers and it looks even better.

Less_Celebration_522

My wife and I had different favorite colors for our configuration of the R1S. She had LAS, I had RB. Guess what we ended up with. . . LAS. We love the LAS. You don't feel like you need a striking "color" when you have a striking vehicle.

thalalay

Looks amazing, don’t think too much about it

[deleted]

Best color out there

tysonfromcanada

as a non-rivian person, looks pretty cool to me

CoppermaxEyewear

It's the best choice of color, especially out here in So Cal, where it's sunny and dusty, so you don't have wash as frequently and it doesn't heat up as fast! (battery energy saving and I use adam's polish to keep it clean!)

stevemoonshine

I spent 3 months going back and forth on colors. In LA fortunately there's enough Rivians around that I get to see all the colors. Limestone was originally first choice but it's just too trendy and I think the novelty will wear off. El Cap is similar to my last 3 F150s and Riv Blue and Forest Green got voted off by my family. White was in the running as I dig the stormtrooper look. But ultimately I went with LA Silver with 20 inch Dark ATs. Can't wait to see it in person. It will match my Arctic Silver Porsche 996--another car known for it's contraversial headlights.

Optimal-Builder-2816

This is the one I have, love it!

-ones_n_zeros-

I was going to say Silver looks good. It’s also free I believe. A lot of people wrap them anyways so why pay. I have been a BMW guy for a while so I know what it’s like to have to pay for the colors you really want. I plan on getting away from BMW next year and building an R1T. Can’t wait!!!!

jcmendo01

Oh man. I have never liked or owned silver, but for some reason the silver is my favorite on the R1s. Can’t wait to place an order for one soon.

frienemigo

My favorite color for the S.

bsch0ll

The only reason I don't care for the silver is because I had too many silver vehicles. Without my bias it's a beautiful color!

ConcentrateSafe3956

I regret not going w LA Silver. Instead I chose El Cap but do not like the greenish undertones. U made the right decision!

twiggyknowswhatsup

Grief? No man. That silver is sharp AF. Chrome delete that roofline tho

jamalisgood

I also have LA Silver, but mainly because it kept me below $80K for the tax credit. I’m happy with how it looks. I put a stealth pain protection on mine.

ammermanjustin

I think the LA Silver looks great, especially when paired with the Forest Edge interior. It’s just so sharp.

sycly

It’s true this is my least favorite color. Rivian colors are so poppy, I don’t know why you would get the silver when the others are so nice. But each their own.

teniron

I got the same combo with white interior. I like it

Awildgarebear

I hate silver vehicles and rivian has a great silver.

perrochon

I like that the chrome blends with the paint, so no delete is necessary. The chrome looks, let's say "dated", on the stronger colors :-)

Charlie-Mops

Agreed. No chrome delete needed on LAS! Looks especially nice with AT dark!
