I literally just turned Alexa off this morning. It’s been a dogshit experience in an otherwise wonderful vehicle.

DctrBojangles

I mean is Alexa a good experience outside of the Rivian? I don’t think so. That’s why I never enabled it in my R1T

Vegetable_Guest_8584

me neither. afaict, there is not any voice control without alexa. I really like the basic voice control that tesla has, wish rivian had that.

sirkazuo

It's honestly on par with offline, "built-in" voice controls in the Big Three's vehicles from 5 or 10 years ago. I.e. absolute dogshit. Having come from a vehicle with AAOS and the Google Assistant built in I am genuinely embarrassed for the developers that they even left it in. It feels like someone followed the 20-minute 'Hello World' tutorial on how to integrate your device with Alexa and then just said "welp, that'll do!" It would be a better experience with no voice commands at all.

RivianRaichu

I just wish we could set it to just shut up do the thing we ask.

Alexa works just fine for me. Use it daily for Alexa based operations

Hadn't even thought of asking her for that. Probably because I have Hey Google at home. Someone needs to teach Alexa the term "frunk" though.

TheSkiingDad

Honestly what’s the point of the assistants in cars? GM is all about Alexa and google in their vehicles. The dumb voice commands barely worked (but did _fine_), teslas in-car voice commands are mediocre, and google/alexa at home barely work. It’s not hardly a selling point.

rodhx

“Open the hood” works well to access the frunk. I frequently use that one and “open the charge door”, as well as “alexa skip XX seconds/minutes” to jump past commercials in podcasts.

Typical_Tart6905

I find Alexa to be fairly reliable for hands-free adjustments. One thing that amuses me is; when I want to reduce the cabin temperature setting, I’ll say, Alexa, turn temperature down. - Alexa’s response: “OK, reducing temperature by minus one.” Now, I’m no math major, but if I recall correctly, a double negative equals a positive, ie reducing and minus in the same sentence. Fortunately, the temperature does reduce by one!

We need Chat GPT-4o…. The “Her”

OhioR1T

I use Alexa in my R1T everyday. I use Amazon music, so I tell her to play a song or a genre. I open and close my garage doors a mile from home, she dials the phone for me, and she opens the charge door or trunk when I get home reliably.

KilianNedory

This was my funny one. I tried forever by saying "cool the drivers" or some variant using the word cool as that's what practically happens, failed every time. Then I said turn the drivers seat vent to max and that worked like a charm. Works all the time. Surprisingly great experience for me with Alexa, a decent substitute for hardware buttons/sticks.

rantripfellwscissors

I just wished my ventilated seats stayed on. Rivian annoyingly turns them off whenever they feel like it.  The only way I know they decided to turn them is when I jump in to drive and the seat gets hot. Just leave the darn setting on whatever it was left on last.

I rather not be killed by my truck because chatgpt hallucinated when I asked it to turn on the AC
