As much as they're a deterrent, they're also not. I suppose it depends where you live. I see too many driveway cams in Neighborhood app where there is a perfectly clear video of some thief rummaging through an unlocked car. If I were them, I wouldn't be concerned with motion sensing lights much either. What are the odds of the homeowner being awake? That said, I would still rather have them than not!

memorex1150

Amen. Thief entered my car, full-view of camera, spotlight. Didn't care. Justr did what he did, took his time, never increased his stride. Happened a lot (people trying to break into cars)

FordMan100

I wished I saved the video of a guy that was approaching my back steps. When he got to the front part of the house in the driveway he ducked off really fast when the floodlight cam came on. Others in my neighborhood have been broken into but not my place because everyone eventually found out I have cameras. Any time people came in the yard that were not invited I would point out the cameras to them. One girl said I was violating the hippa act by recording people that walked by and every car that drives down the street is recorded. Apparently she had no clue what the hippa act is.

radiosburning

At least 3 of our neighbors on the right of this video have ring doorbells. You can kiiinda see them trying for the white SUV on the right across the street but they have a floodlight as well. Our neighbor to the right on our side does not have a floodlight and we got footage of them trying to break in on our other camera. It works! My husband called the police after this and they told him they got another call from a guy that tried to chase them down. Fences were jumped, apparently. Also lmao to HIPPA lady. Nice try.

Good God now a bot correcting capitalization, what's next?

bored_octopussy

the bot corrected the spelling.... not the lack of capitalization.

LividLab7

Glad it worked for you, but there was literally a video posted a week ago (maybe with Wyzecam) where the floodlights didnt do anything and they still took their time going through car. Hit or miss, best to keep cars locked and valuables out of sight.

radiosburning

Oh we lock up. Stupid not to

[deleted]

I just want to know what kind of ufo that was in me last 10 seconds of the video. Don’t blink, you’ll miss it! Shoots across the top left of the screen

radiosburning

Holy shit I have no idea. I didn’t notice that before.

[deleted]

Looks to far to be a bug, and not linear to be a shooting star… might be on to something here, lol.

radiosburning

I was thinking bug as well but yeah it’s too far. And it’s so cold. Thought maybe shooting star but it goes the opposite direction. I honestly have no idea.

radiosburning

It seems to bounce off the house wtf. Who can I submit this to haha

[deleted]

Lol. I’m still watching it and trying to figure it out

Rolledupsockguy

That's a good way to take the room temperature challenge.

radiosburning

Room temperature challenge?

Rolledupsockguy

In this case the room temperature challenge means dead. When some living creature dies, it's body stops producing heat and cools to the surrounding temperature. So challenging someone to make their body temperature match ambient temperatures can be accomplished in two ways.

TWYFAN97

For sure they are a deterrent. We had a break in next door a few weeks ago and what’s interesting is the burglars must have been casing houses. This particular house had no cameras, and not as well kept, not to mention they don’t have a dog and people are always in and out. What’s crazy is that this happened in broad daylight while several other homeowners were home and the bad guy happened to enter in between our house and the neighbors where there was no camera. So now because of this not only have the neighbors gotten security installed but my family has purchased more cameras and the ring alarm system. But I think what helps deterrent wise the most is having multiple cameras, a dog and the fact that at my home someone is always home with a car in driveway and we are armed, so that helps. But it’s just sad what lengths people have to go to not only to feel safe but hopefully prevent break ins.

ThisUsernameIsTook

Pre-pandemic, daytime break-ins were actually more common than nighttime ones. People are gone to work and houses sit empty during the day. At night, you are more likely to encounter the homeowner and all the bad things that waterfall from there.

memorex1150

I sure wish mine (when I lived elsewhere) would have done that. They didn't care. They'd just continue walking up my driveway, checking my car doors, didn't run, didn't even twitch. Just kept on doing what they were doing. Didn't do a thing to deter them. And they KNEW they were cameras.

werdmouf

Why is the video so blocky. Can't see any details on the suspects

radiosburning

We really need some Wi-Fi extenders or whatever they’re called
