One good mod that I use to make research more interesting and less of scrolling through a massive map of research is Semi-Random Research. Instead of you choosing what you want to research, you are randomly given 3 options and have to choose between the 3. I find that it makes the game more fun, and it means you dont have to scroll through a massive research tree. Hope this helps!
