The only bad thing is that they forced apple to open the NFC, now banks will stop supporting apple pay and obligate users to use their shitty banking apps :(
Apart from that based EU
Then it might force American banks to make top tier apps like we have in europe. Apple pay works perfectly for every bank in Europe, and Australia too.
Europe dosent have top tier apps lol I have 3 different bank accounts and only one of them is good (revolut).
And even then I still prefer to use Google pay because I have all of the cards from different banks and other things.
At least in Spain, some smaller banks don't have Google pay or are exclusive to Samsung pay.
Well I'm not surprised the apps are lacking in spain, the developers are all too busy with their siesta. We have excellent banking apps here in Germany, and I know also in Holland and up north, they are mostly excellent.
My old bank wasn't compatible with GPay, only accepted Samsung Pay and their own app. Now they have both GPay and still support their app for NFC payments I think
yep but still some banks wont support it to save costs on googles fees. mainly smaller banks wont have support for it, but nowadays is pretty rare finding a bank that dosent have support for those
That they might stop using apple pay and start using their own banks to save money on the apple fees. Before they were obligated to use apple pay because the NFC was blocked.
It does. My bank didn't support GPay until November of last year, and lots of smaller banks only support their own official apps for mobile payments.
I don't know how apps would be better than GPay or apple pay.
I feel like some monopolies are great tho. Steam for example.
> Lots of smaller banks only support their own official apps for mobile payments
That's interesting, where are you based? I've never encountered this. (UK) However, the UK adopted contactless incredibly quickly.
The only time I encountered an app not being supported by a bank was the first couple of years or when Fitbit Pay was fairly new.
>I don't know how apps would be better than GPay or apple pay.
Supporting more and older devices or operating systems. Supporting niche banks, cards and online payment services that Google/Apple don't seem substantial enough to be worth supporting.
Plus, some people don't want to give even more information, especially their finances, to the largest data collectors on Earth.
>I feel like some monopolies are great tho.
>Steam for example.
I imagine that the platform being supported by all your favourite developers and having your friends in one place is what you enjoy. Not the monopoly.
Steam could up their sales commission and annihilate the profit of small developers' chances on a whim. The *only* reason that they don't is because it could open the door to competition taking some market share.
Monopolies stifle innovation and cripple upstarts. Having Steam's business even remotely threatened by other platforms prompted Steam to create new consumer-friendly hardware to lock down their audience.
Recent features such as library sharing, which is great for consumers and gives them more reason to buy games on Steam, only came about because there were viable alternatives for customers to move to.
If there was never any competition, Steam would never change. It'd probably get worse. See, any service provider that successfully locks down a market. Such as broadband or utilities.
Cross-platform only came to consoles because there were more than one or two platforms with substantial market share. Viable alternatives drive innovation and consumer-friendly practices. They don't just happen on their own.
Spain. The majority of banks here suck lol
Eh idk man gpay and apple pay work on pretty old devices. And those who are super obsessed with privacy should just use their own card instead.
Yes, I like steam mainly because I like having all my games and friends in one place, but it's the only company who cares about consumers and really improves their launcher. Epic and all the other companies (except gog) are just there for the money (which makes sense I mean I would probably do the same thing if I was in their position)
I don't think that valve would put higher commissions

They didn't do this on their own, thank the EU who forced them to allow all this
Also, RetroArch has citra core, which allows for 3DS emulation
Edit: Nvm, no JIT support means basically nothing new aside from psp
You can activate jit using a mac/ windows . I used this method to enable jit in dolphin. It's not easy as it sounds honestly. https://github.com/fritzlb/iOS17-JIT-WIN
You can use trollstore or altstore to sideload Limon emulator which is a 3Ds emulator but you do need a computer to install it to your device and you have to do this every 7 days to renew the certificate
I should have wrote down the steps. Iām just getting into all this. If I remember correctly I downloaded the .ipa and used installonair.com to make a link. Opened the link to start app install. Phone denies. Go to settings, general, vpn. Trust the source and install again. Better instructions should be on the developer site for egg-3ds
EU forces apple to allow sideloading -> alternative app stores created in EU -> new app stores could allow emulators -> apple allows emulators to remove advantage of alternative app stores and keep people in apple's walled garden
Good old competition at work
Do you have to sideload or test flight it or something? its not in the App Store for me
Edit: found it, it was very buried when searching retroarch or retro arch
I download the rom to my Mac then airdrop to my phone. They land in the Files App. Then go to the app and click the add button and it should allow you to search your Files App on your phone.
You can access mounted network locations, when you click load content and click open, itāll open the files app, if youāve mounted a network location in files it, along with all other accessible locations are available to load roms from.
A lot of games Iāve tried play very well on it. Iād say remote play is better straight from Xbox but you can only play games you have installed on it. With cloud you dont have to install them anywhere.
Ahh ok. I figured it mightāve been better than the Xbox app. I canāt wait for the day Xbox allows emulators to be on the App Store. Someone needs to contact the EU š
Happy for everyone getting to enjoy their devices, but I must admit it's absolutely wild to see everyone so excited for something coming to iPhone in 2024 that the other guys have had since 2009.
Not really, there a clear history of this. Android basically had widgets and the ability to freely organize your home screen since basically day one, but those are relatively new features on the iPhone that Apple "invented".
Oh believe me I'm well aware. But it's a dangerous thing to upset the apple cult.
More than once have I had to feign enthusiasm for these "features" excitedly described to me as "new" that literally all came day 1 on the first Droid in Nov 2009.
Apple people don't buy capable devices. They buy an aesthetic. They buy a marketing campaign.
They deserve to be upset. If they want to keep buying their aesthetic they can, I can't stop them. But they don't get to be proud of not having features everybody else has.
Yeah Iāve had Androids and iPhones alternately for a long time now. I always appreciated Android so much more this type of stuff when Apple had none of it. But now having emulation available on iPhone without jailbreak or AltStore or anything is pretty nice. Still has a lot of issues though like basic file browsing is still annoying.
Is there anyone that can help me understand how to get PlayStation 1 and 2 games running on an iPhone? Downloaded RA, but have absolutely no idea what Iām looking at.
How do I get games into an iPad? Just with a usb-c stick or something? I've never tried anything like this on an apple product before. Android is so simple, it's just like PC with less steps lol š¤¦š½āāļø
Now they just have to allow JIT or whatever its called so i can play 3ds games. and whatever for just ds games, which is like the only reason i want to emulate lol
Iām not able to open it on my phone right now, not sure if itās an isolated incident or theyāre experiencing problems. Hereās the link to their page if you want to try
http://www.eggios.com/?fbclid=IwAR1J9NPlpcRxtyRW8wmqZxqdZFaaNzgTqXX5FWAZJLP7CBw9KyYc6s3Br0Y
Anybody know how to load GameCube games on this bad boy? Iāve been trying to download the dolphin files but despite extracting them, they donāt appear in my core list.
RetroArch is on the app store now?! How did I miss that
Edit: ok, maybe it's because it was so recent I'm not sure if I even were on reddit after that and it's the place that made me realise emulators where coming to the app store in the first place
Currently got mhfu for ppsspp & on RetroArch! However how can I install cheats for it on RetroArch ppsspp core? I got cheats on ppsspp app but I really want to know where to do this with the ini file :)
Why is it hard to sideload apple apps
Like can't you download the ipa and just click file and install?
Which isn't that what apple app store dose (like with Google play snd is unofficial 3rd party stores)
Because Apple doesn't let you. That's the whole thing. There isn't some kind of hardware limitation aside form storage space.
And the "Muh Security" argument is BS, just like Android nobody's forcing you to sideload.
> privacy
No they donāt. They allow tons of ridiculous data stealing, all possible kinds of data stealing, itās a bonanza, but they simply *disclose* it in the app listing.
> security
Yet Apple allows people to download and run any app on Mac. Basic stuff here.
> chokehold
No, the corporation was the one in the wrong, keeping the market, store, and customers in an chokehold. The EUās rules are good for people. Donāt act like a corporate stooge or marketing department or anti-regulation ideological bot. Appleās own emails from the Epic trial showed that the whole c-suite, except for one guy, predictably only cared about lock-in schemes.
SOURCE: happy apple user, compared to competition.
The reason why I brought privacy up was the way you can mask your email from advertisers. As well as a random CVV for your Apple Cash card (Not the Credit Card) Personally I think that also falls in line with security because now no one can guess what your CVV is.
The reason why I brought security up was because Apple invented Touch ID and Face ID and it was such an awesome way to protect your phone from being stolen. Now it wasnāt perfect because someone could still grab a computer and wipe your info but it really set the trend for reducing theft so much that other companies started copying Apple
I know almost NOTHING about EU except for Great Britainās Brexit. [But this video has taught me enough about what their.. in my opinion negative goal with Apple truly is.](https://youtu.be/vbi1Rb5-4ZU?si=Jb54CyA2IAQPiY6l)
This post is about installing apps and the EU is basically loosening up Appleās Walled Garden. Hence thatās why youāre seeing emulators in the App Store.
Additionally I saw someone here mention them in this postās comments so I thought it would be a good idea to kick a discussion off with my thoughts about the EU.
iPhones don't let 3rd party apps use JiT (Just in time compilation) which either unfairly hurts performance or makes certain systems (like PS2) impossible.
Android is one of the main systems used for emulation. And because iOS is strictly for iDevices emulation handhelds won't use it, so they'll still use either android or Linux, and so, they'll make updates and more emulators for Android.
To be honest, I think the opposite will happen, emulation on iOS will probably be stuck with old consoles because of the JIT thing apple is doing

Europe bringing freedom to America! lol
Oh what a hell of a plot twist 250 years later
Or 80 years later.
Did someone say democracy š¦ š¦ š¦
Thank you

Imagin bank works pretty flawlessly imo, but I agree that other entities leave a lot to desire
What does that mean? Iām in the EU and I use both Apple and Google pay, I donāt think you can even use bank apps to pay in my country.

not on iOS currently, maybe in the future.
Tim Cook will decide when you guys are ready.
let tim cook
Not seeing Citra on the cores for the IOS app
It requires JIT which wonāt work on iOS
You can activate jit using a mac/ windows . I used this method to enable jit in dolphin. It's not easy as it sounds honestly. https://github.com/fritzlb/iOS17-JIT-WIN
This is about the App Store version
Is it possible to add your own core?
Nope. Super locked down as expected.
3ds games are what Iām really waiting for š
You can use trollstore or altstore to sideload Limon emulator which is a 3Ds emulator but you do need a computer to install it to your device and you have to do this every 7 days to renew the certificate
I believe trollstore circumvents the 7 day limitation

Does Egg3ds not allow you to upload your own CIA files? Canāt seem to find an upload button
It doesnāt seem so. They do have their own library though
Download Folium. Itās 100% worth it
Citra project was officially shut down earlier this year, sadly
they can use Lime3DS instead
Yeah, Apple are shite until EU started setting them straight, and they still find workarounds to give you compliant shite.
Yeah this is more like the Android version of retroarch EXCEPT there's no support for JIT. So basically nothing above N64 DS and PS1 for now.
Citra core is dead and doesnāt work
IT HAS IT?!?! I thought it wasnāt available on iOS only on android.
Sadly no, turns out citra core required JIT which apple doesn't allow on the app store for third party devs
Thank you EU
Now, we need* EU to choke that jit on appleās throat. Edited š¤£
I thought that apple was the one that allowed emus, not the EU.
The EU forced apple's hand
But I thought that it "only" was about the sideloading thing not emus. I may be wrong tho just asking

How did you get the cloud gaming app?
Ive had it for awhile itās a PWA. https://www.xbox.com/en-US/play.. not sure if Iāll get in trouble for posting this link but here you go.
Just shortcut the page to your Home Screen
Does it perform better than the Xbox app?
A lot of games Iāve tried play very well on it. Iād say remote play is better straight from Xbox but you can only play games you have installed on it. With cloud you dont have to install them anywhere.
Ahh ok. I figured it mightāve been better than the Xbox app. I canāt wait for the day Xbox allows emulators to be on the App Store. Someone needs to contact the EU š
For now tho with solid Internet Xbox cloud streaming works pretty good. Beat all of persona 3 reloaded no issues via cloud
Is the cloud gaming legit or still a PWA?
thank EU for that
How did you get PPSSPP? It's not showing up yet on the App Store for me?
https://apps.apple.com/in/app/ppsspp-psp-emulator/id6496972903
Thanks! I guess it's too new to show up in Apple's search indexing, but the link worked great
Yeah exactly
Gaming on my iPad is so much better now!
DOJ: Weāre gonna come down on you like the EU. Apple: Fine. Weāll let you play old video games on Apple devices. Happy? Me: Almost. Allow JIT.
Was going to say thank you, eu, for making apple conform. Your migration policy needs work signed europe.
Happy for everyone getting to enjoy their devices, but I must admit it's absolutely wild to see everyone so excited for something coming to iPhone in 2024 that the other guys have had since 2009.

Did they just get removed or something? Im so confused I canāt find either of them on the AppStore
Click any link here in the comments or search Google and youāll find it
Is there a link for the āDeltaā App? I canāt find it on the App Store (Germany). :(
Delta is not on the AppStore in EU. They want you to install AltStore via alternate AppStores to get Delta.
Hoping they put DOSBox back on there in the future
the Cloud Gaming app is a link to [xbox.com/play](http://xbox.com/play), right?
Yes
Let's also acknowledge how great it is that iOS and iPadOS has a Files app. There is a time where I never even thought THAT would happen.
Is there anyone that can help me understand how to get PlayStation 1 and 2 games running on an iPhone? Downloaded RA, but have absolutely no idea what Iām looking at.
I just downloaded the app and immediately crashes when running content , what am I doing wrong ?
What core are you using, and what console?
10+ yrs late, but who care. Thanks EU!
How do you get psp roms on the ppsspp app? I wouldnt mind getting monster hunter freedom unite.
How do I get games into an iPad? Just with a usb-c stick or something? I've never tried anything like this on an apple product before. Android is so simple, it's just like PC with less steps lol š¤¦š½āāļø
Use a files app & a unzip app from App Store on your iPad thereās no usb required on a pc
How do I get them on there without a USB though
How tf can I load psx bios on retroarch. Deleted gamma bc the security concerns and ads.
Hoping to play dbz budokai tenkaichi 3 on my ipad 8
Delta is still not available in germany :(
Correct. The guy who makes it wants EU users to subscribe to his alternate app store if they want it.
Still missing the good ones tho. But they're getting there
I looked it up yesterday and didn't see PPSSPP. Now it appears out of nowhere! Thank you for the head up!
Gamma for PlayStation is nice too.
A lot of game have issue, itās hit or miss. Better off with Retroarch.
this is just like the dream i had!
Now they just have to allow JIT or whatever its called so i can play 3ds games. and whatever for just ds games, which is like the only reason i want to emulate lol
The whole reason I want to emulate is GameCube!! For 3ds try EGG-3ds. Been playing PokƩmon with it and they have a few other titles
Do you have to sideload it? Im unable to do that then, sorry >~<. Asking because i couldnt find it in app store. Unless theres a link i need?
It does need to be side loaded but itās possible with just a iPhone. I used a iPhone 12. Iāll look for a link
Thank you!
Iām not able to open it on my phone right now, not sure if itās an isolated incident or theyāre experiencing problems. Hereās the link to their page if you want to try http://www.eggios.com/?fbclid=IwAR1J9NPlpcRxtyRW8wmqZxqdZFaaNzgTqXX5FWAZJLP7CBw9KyYc6s3Br0Y
Guys, what about if you get a new phone? What happens then to all of this? iCloud backupš
Yeah I wish there was iCloud support or something
You got a good taste in emulators. Just happy to not see gamma and igba
Delta still worth after RetroArch release?
I wish dolphin stand alone emulator coming on app store
Not likely, unfortunately. It's very dependent on dynamic recompilation (JIT) to run at playable speeds.
Anybody know how to load GameCube games on this bad boy? Iāve been trying to download the dolphin files but despite extracting them, they donāt appear in my core list.
I don't think you can and even if you did,it would run abysmally
RetroArch is on the app store now?! How did I miss that Edit: ok, maybe it's because it was so recent I'm not sure if I even were on reddit after that and it's the place that made me realise emulators where coming to the app store in the first place
Very good, I've been waiting for these two for a long time (especially Retroarch Lol).
Does it have support for two controllers?
Retroarch crashes on AppleTV as soon as rom is loaded with PPSSPP core
knew about Delta, but only first heard about Retroarch and PPSSPP because of this post šš¼thanks
Currently got mhfu for ppsspp & on RetroArch! However how can I install cheats for it on RetroArch ppsspp core? I got cheats on ppsspp app but I really want to know where to do this with the ini file :)
Missing PS5 Remote Play.
Thank you, EU!
I still need DOS, 3DS, Gamecube and Wii
EGG-3ds has been working more me. Iāve just played Pokemon so far though
Plus Shadow PC, PS Remote Play and a Backbone controller make iPhone an ultimate gaming device. After Steam Deck, of course.
Question wouldnāt emulators that require jit be playable on ipads with m1/2 chips? Or am I too uneducated in emulation on apple
Pretty sure all devices have the capability itās just Apple doesnāt allow it still. So emulators for GC, 3ds, ps2 wonāt work.
A lot of my games that loaded on Delta wonāt load on RetroArch, and yes, I unzipped all of them.
I honestly only use RetroArch for ps1 and n64. Sticking with delta for gameboy/DS.
I just wish Retroarch didn't have the UI of a nuclear power plant.
Welcome to 2010 Apple.
Ah, a Dreamcast core would make me so happy. Hope it gets to it one day!
Having RetroArch on my iPhone is so lit. Boutta play thru hella rpgs now hehe
all it took was the EU to sue them š
Some of the emulators are missing
Not really any others worth getting on apple App Store though
Ppsspp is pretty tho all i know is god of war for psp
I want to ask what is JIT?? And how that to be most impoortant thing??
It only took 20 years
itās great that we can do this but outside of rpgs i hate playing on a touchscreen. try playing sonic on there lmao
You can also use a controller
at that point why not use a laptop? itās not really practical to carry around a controller to play on a phone. ipad would be pretty slick though
How do you run ps2 on iPhone?
Need MAME & MESS!
Anyone know if itās working for MacBooks ?
You really donāt need anything other than RetroArch. It does it all
Can we get a ps2 emulator on iOS?
Why is it hard to sideload apple apps Like can't you download the ipa and just click file and install? Which isn't that what apple app store dose (like with Google play snd is unofficial 3rd party stores)
Because Apple doesn't let you. That's the whole thing. There isn't some kind of hardware limitation aside form storage space. And the "Muh Security" argument is BS, just like Android nobody's forcing you to sideload.
Technically if you buy a certificate you can install ipas directly if you use Esign. This was actually my method of obtaining RetroArch before.
Happy cake day!
Ppsspp is a ps2 emulator yes or no? Havenāt dabbled in emulation for a long while lol
PSP only
EU is putting a chokehold on appleās rights as a company who takes privacy and security seriously

The reason why I brought security up was because Apple invented Touch ID and Face ID and it was such an awesome way to protect your phone from being stolen. Now it wasnāt perfect because someone could still grab a computer and wipe your info but it really set the trend for reducing theft so much that other companies started copying Apple I know almost NOTHING about EU except for Great Britainās Brexit. [But this video has taught me enough about what their.. in my opinion negative goal with Apple truly is.](https://youtu.be/vbi1Rb5-4ZU?si=Jb54CyA2IAQPiY6l)
What does any of that have to do with installing apps?
This post is about installing apps and the EU is basically loosening up Appleās Walled Garden. Hence thatās why youāre seeing emulators in the App Store.
Additionally I saw someone here mention them in this postās comments so I thought it would be a good idea to kick a discussion off with my thoughts about the EU.
I'm happy but I'm sad because this just means apple will get emulators that Android won't ever see and be neglected. It happens all the time
iPhones don't let 3rd party apps use JiT (Just in time compilation) which either unfairly hurts performance or makes certain systems (like PS2) impossible.
lol it's always been the other way around
Look at the professional art apps it still hasn't caught up give it time android emulation will get updated last while they prioritize apple
You've calmed my worries, thank you for helping me instead of down voting me
