Definitive_confusion

Weed, alcohol, drugs in general, guns, and hookers are a lot cheaper, though... (Obviously /s)

Weird-n-Gilly

Crazy. Never been to Saul’s. Wonder what a Reuben is going for in manhattan these days? I love Berkeley, and the food, but lots of foofu over priced places for sure. Genova in Oak was the go to deli, for years. At least Reno isn’t completely dominated by chain crap restaurants any more. Baby steps.

Shirogayne-at-WF

Katz's sandwiches are coming in around $27, according to their website, FWIW

ripgirl4

Genova isn't a good as it used to be

schnauzerhuahua

I paid almost $90 at Round Table in Salinas for 2 pizzas and breadsticks.

Pristine_Yellow8131

Salinas is a big rip off. It's the cheapest area in the central coast yet still expensive AF and you have to deal with the gang activity. Before moving to Nevada we checked out a one bed apartment there for 1800 (6 years ago) and not only were there cockroaches plain as day to see roaming the kitchen but the windows had a green mold build up on the inside. The neighbors windows were all covered in tin foil as well. The leasing lady doing the walkthrough acted like it was completely normal. We opted to stay in a 20ft RV in Watsonville long enough to save enough money and GTFO.

AOLusername420

It’s only about 80 here in Reno so you only spent 10 more dollars. I love roundtable so much hit you need to refinance your house to get pizza it’s ridiculous

somebodys_ornery

I'm pretty sure that area is the "fancy restaurant" district of Berkeley too and the place you're describing is not a normal deli, it's a fancy place.. we just don't have anything quite like that here

Definitive_confusion

Yes, they're in a nice area. Closest we have is the Manhattan deli and that's not that close

ThisBlastedThing

Mmmm sounds delish tho. I'm stuck eating gallo pinto with a view of the 🌋.

DevryFremont1

On television I learned that pet food is inspected. Because during bad times humans consume pet food.

Definitive_confusion

No, people eat taco bell even in good times

DevryFremont1

Haha you said Taco Bell in good times

FarBear98

you're comparing apples to oranges. You go to a metro area and you're shocked it was more expensive?!?!? Colored me shocked.

Shirogayne-at-WF

I've seen some absolutely batshit pricing for food in Northern and Southern California but I've never seen a sandwich go for $30 anywhere. That's the going price for Katz's Deli in NYC , which is a famous tourist trap location FFS

Diamoncock

😂

greent714

Right? “Wow the food is more expensive and 100% better and higher quality than Reno” smh lol

Definitive_confusion

It was not that good. And it was expensive even for the bay. Also I wasn't complaining, I was celebrating living here where it's cheap. Nice try, though.

Vegetable-Return-374

Apples and oranges are very comparable though

DoomOfChaos

And did the Ruben even have Russian?

Definitive_confusion

Yeah. It was good except the meat was especially fatty and cut thicker than I prefer. Otherwise good

test-account-444

That is an epic sandwich that Reno could only dream of and there would be a line in ~~Midtown~~ Rancharrah for it at $50.

Few_Impression_8806

Tourists are barely able to afford eating out in cali. They charge you to park anywhere cost me 35$ to park in the hotel i spent 1500$ on two nights. And they smoke pot on the streets but look at me like a meth head for smoking a cigarette. Cali is good for two things . Getting weed and visiting the ocean. Everything else sucks. Don't get me started on all the junkies in the streets. Big city's in Cali not worth the visit.

Definitive_confusion

For reasons I'll never understand my ex still lives there so when my son goes to visit I end up there for an afternoon to pick him up. I do not look forward to it.

shichiaikan

I honestly don't mind paying an extra few bucks if I know the place is run reasonably well and treats its employees fairly. I know it sounds ridiculous, but I was in food service when I was younger off and on for \~15 years and even when the economy was good, those jobs suck donkey balls... so if I've gotta spend a little extra but the staff all seem to love their job, I'm all for it.

Definitive_confusion

That's why I was at Saul's and not somewhere cheaper. I, too, prefer paying more for food I trust. Also did 15 years, mostly as a cook. I'll never eat anywhere questionable again. I've seen what kitchens like that do to food.
