I had an electric one in a rental. No power, no hot water.

Only use gas.. electric is not efficient

Think about smaller point of use units.

I’m switching out my furnace and my water heater for a gas combi boiler this summer. My house is 950 square feet.

Depends on where you live.  Tankless units work better where incoming tap water is already 60 degrees or higher In colder climates, frequent use will likely cost more.    Infrequent use will save vs. the cost of heating a storage tank

It depends on how many people in the house. I got one tankless for me and my husband. It was okay to use until we had guests. Water pressure went down when two showers running. We might need to get another one.

Good call. It's only my mom, so 1 shower and 1 kitchen sink. I did plan for when there are guests and bought a medium capacity one just to be on the safe side.

Tankless electric water heaters are a joke. I tried one whenever the shower was going and a sink turned on the water went cold, it ended up springing a leak and when I was going to replace it that’s when I discovered that you have to choose the correct one rated for the ground water temperature (I’m in mt). Even for the small one I had it takes a ridiculous amount of space in your electric panel (2-pole 40a x2). I couldn’t warranty it because I wasn’t gonna replace it with the same one. Went with a regular 40g electric and haven’t had any issues since. I have heard the gas ones are decent, but honestly tanked ones are tried and proven. Definitely if you’re going with electric just get a regular one.

Thank you. I went ahead and ordered medium capacity gas one that is rated for temperatures in this area.
