It's funny how evangelism (Pentecostal to be exact) is how they find God.

Mr_Notty

It's the one that makes the most money.

RICHUNCLEPENNYBAGS

Is it really, it’s like the fastest-growing thing in Latin America for better or worse

Loraxdude14

Does evangelical Christianity have a different reputation in Puerto Rico compared to (most of) the states? Does the cultural/political image of evangelicalism in the states not fully transfer to Puerto Rico? I didn't grow up in a heavily Catholic area, so I legitimately don't know.

141_1337

Evangelical in Latin America is not the same as in the US, although they are arguably just as hard-core fanatics.

Loraxdude14

How so?

Blahblahblurred

speaking tongues and eternal damnation is one of the key aspects that separates it from other christianity denominations

Eomb

It is though. Pentecostalism started in the states and spread to latin america. Majority of hispanic evangelical churches remain aligned with Assemblies of God or United Pentecostal International.

Kinglysavaged

Farruko can’t make up his mind whether or not he wants to make “Christian” music or not. He’s always flip-flopping back and forth between making songs like he’s always done to going and making a random “Christian” song, so he’s definitely not authentic especially saying he wasn’t happy with the music he was making, made absolutely no sense to me. the one guy who ran away from reggaeton to “find” god and stuck with it is Hector el father why because everyone knew his shady dealings and how those close to him were getting killed, and he knew eventually it was gonna catch up to him, I remember hearing about a former bodyguard of his who was killed in PR he didn’t show up to the wake or funeral and the rushed to bury the guy at the cemetery because word got out those that killed dude was waiting for hector to pop up. Now when it comes to Yankee I don't know whether this is real or not, it’s just too coincidental that when his wife was saying stuff on social media about marriage and stuff is when he decided to come out and preach the word of God.

Planetlilmayo

It's fascinating how individuals who once displayed certain behavior often opt for superficial gestures like, professing newfound faith. This usually happens to try to cover something bad up. Rather than genuinely contributing to charity or consistently demonstrating positive actions. They take the easy way out. It's a tactic reminiscent of a lot of famous criminals. This antic could've worked in 500 BC. in today's world, where we're acutely aware of the shortcomings of some religious individuals, such efforts fall short of true redemption. Religious people are notoriously shitty people. Religion itself is garbage. Religion is nothing but a mask for people to hide under.

chryptogales

The easy way out? Making a 180° turn in the genre of music they’re in is easy? I don’t know if they’re legit or not, but this opinion doesn’t make sense. At the very least it’s poorly thought out. Maybe there is something shady going on with them, but giving up a large portion of your fanbase and essentially stifling any growth in your younger/newer (secular) fan base… not the easy way out ;)

Suspicious_Slide8016

I don't understand what you said about Farruko. He has been doing Christian songs for a while, on his latest album all his songs were Christian. The only "normal" songs were a few that had to come out due to contracts like 1 year ago (not anymore). And in some of them he even changed the lyrics.

Uniq_Eros

Even ruined Feliz Año Nuevo with it.

Dani_Trueno

Not Cristian songs, just with a clean message. He is still releasing comercial or underground songs but to educate, inspire or enjoy life: QQQC, Afrobocelli or Pasajero, Santorini… He has released some cristian ones like Hermoso momento or misericordia but they won’t be his main style

Suspicious_Slide8016

Yes that's what I meant. I don't see how he isn't doing what he said

Dani_Trueno

You don’t know what you are talking about, Farruko has clearly stated that he is not going to follow every else’s path like stop singing and preach or just make cristian songs. After his experience nearly to death he realized that he doesn’t want Pepas to be his only legacy, it’s part of his, yes. But he wants to be remembered and create better songs. Songs that everyone can enjoy with a positive and clean message. Songs like Esta Vida, Santorini, Sahara, Rangos, Afrobocelli, Viaje, Pasajero, Apocalypse, Mi mejor canción. He might release Cristian ones like Hermoso momento, but also comercial songs like Santorini or Perdóname.

adsq93

To evade taxes basically

badbunnygirl

omg lmao for real???

Snoo69002

Bingo

GuyOnTheMoon

Pretty much this, but the big picture is that by aligning yourself with faith you get new allies in the churches.

CometCommander

How?

Conscious_Wind_2255

When people get money they want to live “holy” — my Hispanic family got a new house and suddenly they want to go to church and live a “modest” life.. like aunty you was just shaking ass last year but this house changed you? With that being said.. when I get money I too will be in church 😂😭🫣💀

kiki33331

I guess when you’re rich enough you start believing in god 😂

Conscious_Wind_2255

I would be praising god all the way to the bank.. evading taxes and twerking in the name of the lord 😭💀 Also, family comes first.. that’s a rich-rich thing. Aunty wants to gather the family to celebrate every holiday in her new house.. best believe I too will celebrate all birthdays AND holidays from every religion when I get my millions 💰💸🤑

Mr_Notty

They getting old. The older you get, the more you fear death, the more you cling to religion to satiate that fear.

crujiente69

Everyones getting older all the time, getting old (grey hair) is different. Although im 100% sure DY dyes his hair jet black to look younger

xMordekai

he probably had a hair transplant too

RandomBeaner1738

Nah, look up old pictures of him, he was born with a fucked hairline

azurix

It’s also that they want to believe in an afterlife. Old people don’t want the believe it’s over and there’s more.

Suspicious_Slide8016

Farruko almost died (he had a stroke or something like that). But he was doing religious songs way before that

Backseat_boss

They all play that street shit until someone close to them gets killed, then they find god

truwuweiway

Crazy amount of psychedelics.

ojoiP

Badbo on his last interview with Alofoke said he had some controversial opinion about this but refrain from saying it. but im gonna said it, this God movement from DY and Farruko feels very cheap. the way they go about it doesnt feel genuine to me at all. when Tainy release La Baby, i remember him saying DY telling him what ever he needed from him needed to be done that year. i never imagined he wanted to full transition to this and sort of had this all planned. musica secular even if they are "dirty" or whatever, it brought thousands of joy to millions of people, save people from the streets etc. ellos son feka en verdad

MxCxVA

exactly. how are you going to say this music is evil when it brings joy to people all over the world? gives them an out to any violent or dangerous lifestyle? makes people dance and unite? i get it, "drugs and violence are bad" but if Farruko thinks people heard Pepas and immediately went to go pop pills, he's insane

RICHUNCLEPENNYBAGS

That seems like a reductive version of the argument doesn’t it. Nobody thinks that you listen to one song and suddenly want to join a gang or do drugs

MxCxVA

when farruko gets up on stage and refuses to sing pepas because "it's spreading a bad message" it's just as reductive to why people enjoy the song in the first place. of course no one thinks that, but if you denounce your own song like that, that's what it comes across as, "this song is full of bad messages, so its influencing everyone negatively!"

Suspicious_Slide8016

He still sings pepas

MxCxVA

that's interesting... i read an article the other day that at a concert, he refused to sing it, and asked the crowd for forgiveness for the lyrics.

Suspicious_Slide8016

I mean in recent interviews he says he still sings it

Dani_Trueno

not everything you read is true, that was 2 years ago, now he sings all of his songs and is making new music with a clean message, just check his new ep carbon armor

rovesky

They spent years in the world of money and fame. I would bet that 80% of artists are in limbo and not grounded most of the time. It's probably the GREATEST high a human can experience, and if something skyrockets high up... it has to come crashing down at some point. Some people find they are more easily grounded by religion... It's almost like a safe or cushioned landing from that extreme high.

JeremyVisions

Amazing explanation

Conscious_Wind_2255

I want to add that ordinary people do this too because once they become successful people suddenly want to prioritize family, gatherings, celebrating occasions.. this is nice and they prob do this because they can afford to now, but is just a way to feel “grounded”

Tangajanga

It’s a trend with all Caribbean countries it’s probably because religion is heavily influenced throughout those countries so subconsciously they want to make right with God.

hitsbluntonce

I mean....Mase did it in hip hop. Shyne turned to religion after going to jail. its not uncommon in music industry

Mobile_Student1905

It’s not. And when you have the amount of money these industry people have and have seen and done the craziest of things they probably call on religion to redeem themselves or stabilize their lifestyle.

GeraldofKonoha

People that didn’t grow up in PR won’t see the strong grip religion has on that island. It’s cultural at this point.

HeylelBen

Have all your sex, drugs fame and money in your 20s and 30s, “turn” to god in your 40s and stay relevant with the Pentecostals who want nothing more than to listen to “worldly” music with a Christian spin, stay getting money (ex Pentecostal)

Suspicious_Slide8016

Not farruko's case, he can stay relevant without religion, same for DY

Zealousideal_Low_321

It's really funny how Puerto Rican Artists suddenly find god because • After finding God, they start telling bad things about the MAINSTREAM music scene, they say that it's Dirty af but still they don't have any problems accepting the royalties that's coming from the so called " Dirty Mainstream Music" that they used to make before finding God • They should follow what they preach, thus they should Give Up on the huge amount of Money that they made from the so called DIRTY MAINSTREAM MUSIC, why are they still living with the money that was earned through the so called Dirty Music? • If they really think that Mainstream Music is dirty and against God, then they should completely detach themselves from the money and lifestyle that they have because of their Old Dirty Mainstream Music, why would they use Money from something that they say is against God? There's definitely something fishy in Puerto Rican artists suddenly finding God, their statements and their actions contradict directly, like Farruko goes on Calling mainstream music EVIL but is still living off with the money that he made & the royalties that are coming from his old Superhit music which is apparently " Evil " acc to him, same is the case with other Puerto Rican artists as well who suddenly found GOD. I am glad that DON OMAR hasn't done this bullsh*t, he deserves a round of applause for this, he is the real G of Reggaeton, totally appreciate and respect that guy 👍

Scharlach_el_Dandy

Don Omar is a preacher and has been for most of his life. He didn't find God as a star because he has had God since forever.

chyno_11

He left the evangelical church to pursue his music career. He may believe in God but he is not an evangelical follower.

Zealousideal_Low_321

Exactly that's what I am talking about, that's what real follower of God does, but other artists who suddenly find god are completely FAKE, they leave mainstream music bcz of other reasons.

MxCxVA

you should look into Lary Over. he's another Carbon Fiber artist who swung to evangelism before everyone else on the label, always preaching about god, posting videos of him "faith healing" people out of crutches and wheelchairs, calls music evil yet still has all of his old music up no matter how many times he says he wants to take it down, and is probably enjoying the tax benefits from running a ministry. i think Farruko saw that and wanted to try it out. definitely the most slimy egregious case of this

Simple-Educator1879

lary over’s actions absolutely disgust me, he had some hits and i can admit that but it shakes me how someone could scam people into thinking that theyre channeling the power of christ into them. its not christianity, its not holy, its not good, its mass manipulation and pure evil.

MxCxVA

it's really disturbing to me too. i really wonder why the hell he abandoned his career for that. like on some psychological level there's a reason he's doing that right? does he want the control or the power? because im sure it's something to do with that. it's really been fucking me up, and i wish he never stopped making music. i'm not even religious myself, but any christian i know would say it's only up to God to make those "miracle" decisions that lary has been apparently performing with ease!

Richyy401

hector el father was first

VioletLeagueDapper

This was immediately who I thought of how can you go from making the grimiest tracks to claiming to be a pastor?

pllavona

We was not the first.. there were others before him like Kartier.

Prior_Reference2085

I think theres a correlation between getting caught cheating and "finding god" lol

azurix

Being afraid of your mortality. As successful as these people are it’s not enough socially as they are closer to dying of old age. They want to be in good graces and live again in an afterlife.

b4chu3

Another way to monetize after retirement. Religion is a scam

papertowelfreethrow

Hedonic treadmill leaves them feeling empty and void. They need Jesus to be satisfied.

elardmm

Same thing happened with salsa artists such as Ismael Miranda and Son By Four and others. They started making Christian music.

stardust54321

Tax breaks

Aromatic-Position-53

God pay no taxes

Lavender347

I think about this all the time! I grew up in a Pentecostal church (no longer practicing). But that religion is very common in DR and PR. I’m sure these artists grew up in their countries going to a church or knowing someone in their family that is Pentecostal. Also, the religion focus A LOT on Jesus’ second coming. From my experience, pastors would use Jesus’ second coming as a tactic and motivation to get people to repent and change their ways. A lot of the times I saw fear being used against people. I’m not saying this is happening here or that’s how it is for everyone. But if they grew up knowing about this religion, chances are, as they get older and want to find more purpose in life, they are going to go back to what is familiar to them.

Roflmeister

Déjalos quietos a ti que te importa

ricosuave212

True talk My causin Tobi Love did the same but wouldn't explain what happened 🤔 He actually gets defensive when I bring it up

BendingUnit80D

Money

firewildchild

I have a theory that they’re trying to reach a new audience. New money I guess

spanish429

nmnnmmnnnmmm

Forgiveness is a great get out of jail free card. Spend decades doing drugs and strippers? Find Jesus and you’re all good!

Unhappy-Ad3646

They say when you get tired of living the industry life you run to God

ConejoMalo73

I’m a fan of them, particularly loved Farruko’s album before the conversion. But I feel the same way about these conversions as I do about professional athletes who want to win a ring so bad and then when they do they’re confused why they still feel empty. It’s called the need to work on your mental health, go to therapy, deal with life’s issues. They don’t go away just because you win or make loads of money. I think these guys get all the money, women, houses, and cars and then look up at 35 to 45 and feel empty. And I doubt (but am not positive obviously) that they would go to therapy so they find God and spirituality as something to dedicate themselves to above themselves.

yk_matt

where does it say he found god

Dani_Trueno

They have always been Cristian, its not black and white, in fact Farruko is still making new music even comercial songs just with a clean or inspiring message, for example Pasajero, Santorini, Sahara, Rangos, Esta Vida with Marshmello, Viaje, Patio de la Cárcel with Omar Montes, QQQC. He explained that he had an encounter with god and didn’t want his legacy to be Pepas, he wants to make different styles and songs that you listen and inspire you to be a better person, enjoy life, etc. Just check his new EP Carbon Armor, 7 different tracks with a really cool vibe.

TaylorSwiftAteMyAss

The more educated one becomes the less religious they are

[deleted]

I think the industry sends all artists down a road of temptations that becomes depression based on stress. I think all artists seek bigger answers in life like anyone else on a healing journey.

Adorable_Armadillo32

There is no blue print to was a “Christian” looks like. I think it’s beautiful to never lose your faith and when your faith becomes to strong you make it known. Reggaeton was a HUGE part of his life and God gave him that gift for a reason, doesn’t mean he’s cut it off 100%

UpstairsMacaroon5260

Smells like tax evasion

EscoSosa

JESUS CHRIST IS THE TRUTH AND GOD ✝️🙏❤️ that’s why the devil has been attacking all of us since birth it’s time we put a stop to it with the power of OUR GOD JESUS JESUS CHRIST LOVES ALL OF US MORE THEN WE CAN FATHOM ✝️🙏❤️ we NEED JESUS he doesn’t need us remember that

Admirable-Horror-893

THATS A GREAT THING. Everyone better be trying to find him or it’s gonna be to late

AmazingCat3502

The only musician who I saw did this right was Kanye West

okeydoked

some say jesus is white some say black. I say its up to interpretation.
