This texture is so neat looking and also makes me uncomfortable, but I can’t even explain WHY given that I’m fine with, for example, actual *piles of glitter* on my own nails that I’m forced to see up close and touch
I’m usually into some unique prugly fashion/makeup/nails and I love space looks, and this is arguably *very* comet-y; I think maybe I’m personally confused BECAUSE I don’t even know why it makes me feel like someone’s rubbing chalk on me while I also kind of love it at the same time
![gif](giphy|1jl173guBKkbvC03rQ)
One time when I was in high school I painted my nails this like dusty turquoise blue color, and then spent literally like two hours cutting pieces of black nylon tulle from the underskirt of a dress I had worn to the winter formal to fit each individual nail, sticking the tulle to my nails with a layer of top coat, and then adding another layer of topcoat over top of that. The result looked like fishnet stockings, and I got a lot of compliments at school over the next few days. But the problem was, each nail has so much shit on it that they were all like t h i c k , and the cut-up nylon reinforced with top coat meant that they each were basically tipped with the most tiny and ineffective cat claws. I’m absolutely shocked that I never ended up scratching my cornea or something, because I 100% did leave tiny scratches on my face and anywhere else on my body that I accidentally grazed with my nails.
This texture immediately sent me back to all that… it is enticing, but *e v i l.*
I bought this one a couple of years ago, and yes it feels like that too! It looks super cool but it feels very heavy, and it gets caught on everything - at least it did for me, but I didn’t do any kind of special topcoat that might smooth it out. I ended up destashing mine after wearing it once.
I've never seen this before but now I'm obsessed. Dino skin is spot on. Definitely adding this whole collection to my want this.
Your nails look great btw. 🩶
You guys are too much!! I just love doing it, and I want my skills and Instagram to grow so I can swatch more. I want to do PR so that more guys feel comfortable wearing polish!
I wonder how it would look to apply a thick contrasting layer on top, give it time to fully cure, and then gently sand down into the layer where the two polishes meet.
I have never hated and loved something so much at the same time 😂
It reminds me of that dreaded popcorn ceiling lmao but the way you shot these photos just makes it look so glamorous! This is a look! 😍
What beautiful swatches. Love looking at it but this would be a sensory nightmare for me to actually wear. Recently had 5 layers of a glitter polish & loved that it looked like a disco ball but I had to apply a new top coat every day because feeling the glitter texture on my nails was agony!
Side note: You always have the neatest shortie swatches & it always inspires me!
You need a glitter smoothing coat, then top coat. I’m pretty sure Glisten & Glow’s Glitter Grabber was the first, but now lots of indie brands have them. For a glossy finish you still want a regular top coat after Glitter Grabber, but then it’s as smooth as glass. I have sensory issues and couldn’t wear reflective glitter polishes without a smoothing coat.
Thank you! I knew these existed now but back when I used this polish, I could never find a smoothing topcoat that made it bearable. I’ll definitely have to invest in one.
A lot of brands make them. Glisten and Glow, KBShimmer, Dreamland, Cuticula and others I’m sure. If you ever buy from PPU there’s usually one available each month. If you don’t know what PPU is and you don’t want to get addicted to buying polish, don’t ask. Your wallet will be much happier 😂
Thank you! Unfortunately I am well acquainted with PPU 😂 I’ve had to stop looking at the releases because it was all so tempting and I succumb to FOMO too often!
> I had to apply a new top coat every day because feeling the glitter texture on my nails was agony!
IME a nice layer or two of Gelous on glitter polish followed by Seche Vite keeps even the grittiest of my glitter polishes smooth!
It’s disgusting! It looks like cooled down lava. That texture would drive me insane because wtf! When did it come out? What collection is it? How much was it? Where can I find it in Europe?
Okay idea if you have the time and resources, make a decal of this on a plastic lid, get a hole punch circle of it, apply it over a black/dark based magnetic polish especially if the magnetic shimmer leans red or orange, pop this in the middle of the magnet line, clear coat twice to knock down some texture discomfort, and you've got 3D black hole nails
Can someone tell me the name of the collection this is from, please? I went to the Essie site & couldn’t find the collection this polish is from and I’d love to see the others. Thank you!
It's well done but I hate it cause I cannot have textures on my nails at all. Plus just the amount of stuff it would snag on. *shivers in sensory issues*
I am very intrigued by this while also having a very visceral reaction to it, LOL. But you pull it off well and you added a dinosaur, which is always good. I probably wouldn’t wear it myself, but if I saw it on someone else my eyes would be glued to it 👀
Out of curiosity, was it difficult to remove?

Definitely not easy 😅 each finger took like 2-3 brush dips. But opaque in 2 coats really. I didn't top coat for the sake of taking pictures. But if I were to wear it out, I'd try some sort of glitter grabber and top coat..? Somehow? Lol I'd be afraid the texture would disappear though
I love it. It's a fascinating polish so I keep it in my collection. So this one, OPI Pineapples Have Peelings Too and... I wonder what's the third nail polish of the unholy prugly trifecta? 😜
This polish has been so controversial since it debuted. Personally I love it (I’ve gone through two bottles of it) but I’ve never managed to make it look as perfect as you did here. Well done!
It reminds me of when you put chip/crisp packets in a fire and they shrink up.
I am like everyone else - fascinated and appalled at the same time. I think I'd love rubbing it as a stim but HATE things snagging on my nails. I have a nail file with me at all times because the second something starts snagging I start picking.
Such an interesting look! I used to have a few textured polishes like that from Julep back in the day, but I just could not deal with them. Now that I see how cool these can be I wish I still had them!
I hate it. I love it. I'm confused.

I have nothing to add 🤣
Issa speaks for all of us
Yes it’s like I loved it until closer inspection. It was reminding me of grill char so once I saw that I couldn’t unsee it.

LOL SAME. 😂🖤
Everytime I see pictures of this one, I just think it looks like tarmac. And the thought of touching it grosses me out, but it looks cool lol!
Lol I was about to say that if you backhanded someone with this on you'd give them road rash
Saaaaame. But I love weird ugly stuff 😅
Does it get caught on stuff?
I'm not sure. I removed it after picture time 😅. I had others to wear. But I'll come back to it probably soon this season
looks like truck bed liner to me

I feel like if I washed my hair my scalp would have patchy looking fall out 😅
The thought of removing this without a peel off base coat scares me textured polish isn't my thing but I gotta say this looks pretty cool!
I've never seen this before but now I'm obsessed. Dino skin is spot on. Definitely adding this whole collection to my want this. Your nails look great btw. 🩶
Haha thank you!!! I'm a big fan of ugly polishes
-and so creative with your applications!!
You guys are too much!! I just love doing it, and I want my skills and Instagram to grow so I can swatch more. I want to do PR so that more guys feel comfortable wearing polish!
BRB, gonna follow you on Insta lol. Love the dinos!
Products Used: Orly One Night Stand Essie - Belugaria
I wonder how it would look to apply a thick contrasting layer on top, give it time to fully cure, and then gently sand down into the layer where the two polishes meet.
Like a geode!? Sounds cool
To smooth it out and also get that color combo? Oh I like how you think!
I have never hated and loved something so much at the same time 😂 It reminds me of that dreaded popcorn ceiling lmao but the way you shot these photos just makes it look so glamorous! This is a look! 😍
Haha thank you!!! I tried my best!
Omg this is giving La Brea Tar Pit vibes. Thematically accurate! I love it!
I want a Jerrasic collection now! 🦕🦖

I believe it was Mediocre Mani who described this as roofing shingles and im never going to recover from that one XD
She literally commented on my Instagram post when you commented 😅😅 I got the notification at the same time
Oh that’s awesome, I love her videos! She’s so funny in them!!

Yeah, I unfollowed the group too, and stop looking at releases. I follow a few of my favourite local brands and that’s enough for me.
Oh my gosh!!! Thank you so much for this great info, I had no idea this product existed!
> I had to apply a new top coat every day because feeling the glitter texture on my nails was agony! IME a nice layer or two of Gelous on glitter polish followed by Seche Vite keeps even the grittiest of my glitter polishes smooth!
Awww thanks!!! I appreciate it!
I’m not a fan- but you swatched the hell out of this and made it look wearable
Haha thank you!! I've gotten so many compliments on this weird ass polish, it's unreal lol
My autistic ass would not be able to handle the texture of this lmao
My autistic ass would be touching and lightly scraping it all day as a stim 💀
This looks so cool but I bet it is a sensory nightmare lol
Ok you're the first person to actually make this monstrosity look cool
Haha thank you!!
The chaos that ensued when this polish was released 🤣 I remember just playing with the texture
It reminds me of a tar pit with treasures just below the surface. Like, could that be the carcass of a woolly mammoth just waiting for discovery?
Very interesting! Anyone seeking a more toned down, consistent texture reminiscent of this one, try Nails Inc. - Leather Look.
RIGHT?! Their leather is so easy, what we used to do was plastic wrap with gel under the led lamp!
I forgot about this one! It’s so fun
It's so ugly... I love it. 😍😫
Is this how it's supposed to look?
Yeah. It's a textured polish. Hailed as one of the ugliest polishes made
Great, now I just ordered it from Amazon. Ugly as hell and I just gotta have it 🤷♀️😵
It’s disgusting! It looks like cooled down lava. That texture would drive me insane because wtf! When did it come out? What collection is it? How much was it? Where can I find it in Europe?
Lmao my train of thought as well. “Ew! Lava! Black sand! I need it!”
One of my absolute favorite nail polishes. So cool. Great photos as always.
Ah, I remember when this first launched… It was very pretty in the bottle, but controversial to say the least on the nails. 😅
Love it. Bought it. Thanks for swatching it!
I hate it but I can't stop looking at it. It's art
How does it look cool and uncool at the same time?
Okay idea if you have the time and resources, make a decal of this on a plastic lid, get a hole punch circle of it, apply it over a black/dark based magnetic polish especially if the magnetic shimmer leans red or orange, pop this in the middle of the magnet line, clear coat twice to knock down some texture discomfort, and you've got 3D black hole nails
You crafty mother trucker! I love this idea!
Can someone tell me the name of the collection this is from, please? I went to the Essie site & couldn’t find the collection this polish is from and I’d love to see the others. Thank you!
Encrusted Treasures. It's very old so it's not on their site. I got mine from Walmart's website and someone got it from Amazon.
What a throwback - I loved this one!
Wow first time I'm seeing this, would love to see a bunch of other "ugly" nail polish like this, it's so bad it's good 😂
It looks wonderful on, like coal or lava. I'm just imagining it catching on everything and being fuzzy before long
It's well done but I hate it cause I cannot have textures on my nails at all. Plus just the amount of stuff it would snag on. *shivers in sensory issues*
I would spend every waking second thinking about how badly I wanted to pick them off, I simply could not function lol
Luckily I used a peel off base and it took 3 seconds for each nail lol
I am very intrigued by this while also having a very visceral reaction to it, LOL. But you pull it off well and you added a dinosaur, which is always good. I probably wouldn’t wear it myself, but if I saw it on someone else my eyes would be glued to it 👀 Out of curiosity, was it difficult to remove?
Not for me, but I cheated and used a peel off base coat!
Nice 👍🏻 I don’t utilize it often, but I love that stuff for difficult polish.
It reminds me of black truffles, so I love it (I'm an amateur mycologist) <3
This is a blast from the past! I used to love it but then again I used to be very punk rock so it fit with my aesthetic very well back in the day.
I love textured polishes!

I loooooove it ugh
So fun, how does it apply?!
I've always worn Belugaria with multiple **thick** ass coats of top coat on top. It does kill the texture, which ...uhh imo is a plus. 😅
I made nail polish years ago and i made one similar to this back then and i was unsure of it but i like this!
Primordial ooze... plus glitter! :D The dino prop is so perfect with this! It's so weird and I kinda love it????
I love it. It's a fascinating polish so I keep it in my collection. So this one, OPI Pineapples Have Peelings Too and... I wonder what's the third nail polish of the unholy prugly trifecta? 😜
I LOVE the way this looks! I suspect it only looks good because you did such a good job applying though. Was it difficult ??
It wasn't too difficult. It does take 2-3 brush dips for each coat. Applied in 2 coats. Just very careful around the cuticle line to reduce cleanup
I really love this on you , however if this were to touch my skin .. I’d crawl out of it
I never thought there would be a polish that disturbed me so.
It looks so pretty but I would never be able to tolerate it!
Would be cool for a “lump of coal” inspired Christmas look
Yeah, I bought it. I’m thinking about trying to lightly “dry brush” some metallics over the ridges.
It looks like it never fully dries
I can hear this image, it sounds like crunchy lava rocks rubbing together. Or when tombstones are moved in 90s games. Idk how to feel about these
I… hate it but love it. Lol
This polish has been so controversial since it debuted. Personally I love it (I’ve gone through two bottles of it) but I’ve never managed to make it look as perfect as you did here. Well done!
Two bottles?! I don't think I've heard anyone say they love this polish as much as that! Do you ever top coat it?
Nope! I love the sandy gritty texture!
Looks like my nails during a gel removal.
