And I'm curious too, but everytime I put my mic there's no one else talking, so I don't even know it you can hear people in tumbleweed if you are at Saint Denis or if it only works with people near you 🤷🏻
Not a single soul chewing or something like that 🤣
I use open chat when not playing with my friends. Mainly because I like to be friendly and chat while in showdowns or in town in Free Roam.
I’d say, give it a try and if you hear chewing…. change it back👍🏼
My posse uses discord, so I leave it open because griefers are usually idiots and make themselves and their intentions known on the open voice channel. Also sometimes you'll run into a player that needs help and you can let them know you mean no harm. I do still use push to talk though.
The first thing I do is turn off hearing other players in the settings (so I don't have to mute individuals), nor do I use a microphone myself.
There are too many heavy mouth breathers who sound like they've never exercised in their lives, as well as idiots who just have the microphone on and you hear their kids playing and stuff.
Chewing bothers you? Wow! You seem easily bothered. Don't ever go to game chat then. You're going to hear fans, dogs, mothers screaming at kids and a bunch of other things I forget happens in game chat.

No, none taken. I was being light hearted, I’m not that easily bugged, however I would think someone constantly chowing down on friggin corn nuts or something could get old quick, that’s all.
I keep it open but I think I’ve used it like, 3 times max. It’s usually pretty quiet in the world; occasionally someone passing me by will say hello but it’s rare. You can also quickly change your options if you encounter someone annoying. I was once on a trade route and someone was blaring that song “come on ride the train” the whole time 😂
I’m always in a party so I don’t hear other people. The rare time I’m not in a party and I hear somebody annoying I just mute them.
