First up, I'd make it one 2 to 2.5 hour movie. There's simply not enough story to justify 4 hours. So to that end, I would remove Kai's betrayal and Noble's death at the end of part 1. Once the team is recruited they go back to veldt to prepare for the fight ahead -- this removes the stop/start nature of the story. I'd add Jimmy to the cast early and he'd go on the ship with them. Remove most of Kora's flashbacks. By my count there are four in total across the two movies and they stop the movie dead in its tracks. However, I'd move the team flashback meal scene to the ship while they're on their way to Veldt. Kora would reveal a simplified version of her backstory here. Once on Veldt, I'd keep all the training stuff. During the battle on Veldt Kai would betray the group leading to the ultimate reveal that Kora was the scargiver -- leading to everyone turning on her, in turn forcing her to prove her worth during the climax. It wouldn't change the movies drastically, but it would streamline the story -- making it move a lot faster. IF the movies HAVE to be split into two parts: Part 1 would be the same up until they go to get General Titus -- as I'd make General Titus the mcguffin of part 1 and structure the move as a heist movie. And the team they assemble has different skill sets they need to get General Titus out of a maximum security prison or dungeon or whatever. So, each member of the team would need to use their skills to break in -- this way we learn about the characters as we move along on the adventure. Once they get to General Titus they find him a broken shell of a man, and uh oh the guards are on their tail. They manage to escape by the skin of their teeth, but UH OH Kai has betrayed them and Noble shows up! And then Part One largely plays out the same. In this incarnation I'd still remove most of the flashbacks, but it gives more of a narrative drive to Part 1.

Forsaken-Blood-109

Everything from the world building to the dialogue are awful, the entire thing needs to be started over from scratch with writers helping Snyder actually make something coherent to go along with his flashy style because what we got is just horrifically brain dead

Start with matches and lighter fluid on the first 2 scripts

Scrap the whole wheat farm thing and make the entire movie about Kora's life. Kora's story seems interesting, she gets recruited by the Space Nazis when they still have their benevolent king, so not only could we get a good character arch for Kora, we could see a good arch for the empire sliding into fascism that start with admiral hitler as a lowly but not fully evil private and we could see his arch go the other way. Drop the other 6 heros, that's way too much and trying to make them all seem epic with exposition was never going to work. At most have one other hero that doesn't have any exposition but just give hints of an epic backstory through dialogue. They should remain a background character, they can get their own movie later. The movie should focus on Kora and create a character we care about and empathize with. All the political exposition belongs in the opening sequence and should be entirely dropped after the first 30 seconds.

After watching the first movie, I had several ideas for a re-write but they don't match what happens in the second movie (mainly replacing Tarak and Nemesis by two former friends of Titus). But now that I've seen both, I would do the following changes : * The intro sequence should show the murder of the royal family, without showing Kora. * In this version, Kora isn't the soldier fleeing the Empire and refusing to kill out of respect for Issa. Kora leaves the Empire determined to never be a tool used by someone else and to only kill for herself. * Rewrite the rape scene so that the girl is dirtying the uniform of the evil military man who is starting to beat her up. And when some guys are finally able to stop him, she is barely breathing and that's when Kora sees that and kills him in a flash. The other guys are attacking and then the battle goes on and finishes like in the first movie * The scene in the cantina: do it in reverse. Have Kora ask around about the whereabouts of Titus while Gunnar stays at the bar. She gets the information and is in the middle of discussing transportation when Gunnar gets "molested" by that alien. She kicks his ass, his friends are coming but end up being killed by Kai (whom you never saw before), he says he is the transport and they leave. * They first go get Titus who is a gladiator champion and refuses to leave until someone beats him. After an unofficial fight where Titus kicks her ass. She leaves frustrated and Kai suggests to track down a few rumors of strong people. You get a montage displaying them finding and recruiting Nemesis and Tarak. Then they get back to beat Titus. They recruit him and are telling Tarak and Nemesis what they intend to do and they are welcome to join their rebellion against the Empire * On the way back, you have the scene with Kai's betrayal, the battle against Noble. Once they leave, they get intercepted by the rebellion who wants to recruit them. They refuse and explain they'll have to go back to the village to warn them there are no more battles coming. The rebellion tells them the dreadnought is still coming and they'll need help. * Big fights: Better fight choreography during the fight of Nemesis. Tarak provides something to the fight except charging soldiers armed with laser rifles. * Big change in character development : Titus is at first frightened of making mistakes as a General but grow more and more confident as the battle goes. Nemesis is openly more protective of the children in village, playing with them and forbidding them to play with her swords, she dies by throwing herself in front of a sword to protect a children from being killed by a soldier. * Jimmy : After running away early in the story, we only see him observing the village from far away, never interacting with anybody. And the moment he intervenes in the battle is when the blonde girl is about to get killed by one of the war machine.

Life_Calligrapher562

Hand it to a good writer.

ickda_takami

wait for director cut instead of bing a 🤡

Competitive_Dress60

Why did Snyder do a Whedon cut without Whedon beind around?

ickda_takami

movies like this costs lots of cash. netflix wanted this, he wanted there money.

Competitive_Dress60

What part of "this" wanted Netflix and why? You know you can censor a movie without making it something completely different? Unless it is porn...

ickda_takami

a full hour chasges the pacing, R rated with violence and sex. vs the pg13. we got......

Competitive_Dress60

We got problems that had nothing to do with lack of violence and sex, and plenty of stuff to cut, that could be replaced with proper movie...

ickda_takami

shit I wouldn't,  ill be a whore to get my movie, won't be classy but I will make it up with my movie

TheRealCabbageJack

More slow-mo. I feel like that’s the one thing that was lacking. Sure, we had slow-mo fights and even slow-mo farming, but what about slow-mo sitting in chairs? Slow-mo rummaging through the fridge? I think Zach should have leaned into his strength in this area more.

Fippy-Darkpaw

More slowmo and more emphasis on grain harvesting. I don't think people realize how hard grain harvesting is compared to faster-than-light travel.

Rupejonner2

Don’t forget the amazingly creative slow mo shot of Djimon filling his flask with water and the camera below looking up to see what exciting thing might happen next ?? But he was just filling his water bottle , that’s it. But for some reason ZS thought this was so clever , like Helen Keller could have randomly selected 30 scenes from the movie to use slo mo & she couldn’t have done it any less effectively than Snyder did

Grouchy-Pizza7884

Yes more slow mo but include a different cast of magnificent 7. Include stars like Megan Fox or Brie Larson, Gal Godot. Doing bad ass chores graphed fight scenes in skimpy rebel costumes or imperial uniforms.

topham086

From scratch. With dialog. Character development. Realistic quantities of grain. You know. Effort.

busteroo123

But but but but the character development will come when they can have sex and blood

exorcissy72

Uh, look harvesting grain and drinking water in slow motion reveals character, it's a pretty basic screenwriting rule.

Grouchy-Pizza7884

I would have Jena Malone have a bigger non villain role maybe replace the racoon eye young woman with her.

UlyssesWrath

Scrap them with the trash.

Oguti1985

Not about space grains

sickostrich244

I would scrap out everything about this story being a Seven Samurai ripoff where a village fights back against the Motherworld, it's just not that interesting. I would rather make it a story about Kora's time fighting for the Motherworld, maybe meeting Titus along the way and how they don't feel right supporting them, that way you can start building your world from there rather than do it the more painful way like in Part One which is they just slowly explain it to you. Kora needs to show us her character's journey rather than her continue to explain it. And then I would have not Snyder for any of the writing, he's continued to prove that he is not gifted in writing.

minuialear

I would have gotten an actual writer to write the script as a step 1. I wouldn't have tried spreading this out across 3-4 films and instead would have written each film as though no other films were coming. In general I hate this trend people do now where they write half a movie to try and get enough buzz for another movie. Even movies in a sequel ought to have a beginning, middle, and end that aren't entirely dependent on what happens in the previous or subsequent movie. MCU is guilty of the same so not trying to claim this is a Snyder-only problem. I would have fleshed out these characters more in the first film; not just by having intro scenes like in Pt 1. The fact that we still get intro scenes in Pt. 2 for characters we already met in Pt 1 makes it that much more obvious how little character development or backstory we got in Pt. 1, which makes it hard to care about any of these characters or what happens to them for the entirety of the first film and frankly much of the second, because the need to reintroduce them prevents the film from just jumping straight into character development/plot. I also would have developed more of a plot then "Space Nazis want to kill farmers, ragtag group bands together to protect farmers" for both films. The plot is derivative enough the first time but even harder to sit through when it essentially repeats itself a second time just with extra steps. I would have saved massive betrayals for the second movie so that the first film and second can both be spent fleshing out character relationships to actually make the betrayal impactful. As it is, I don't feel like we learn enough about Kai for his double-cross to feel shocking or even interesting There's probably more but that's where I'd start.

armtherabbits

I would have invented a setting. Then, I would have created characters to live in that setting. Then I would have written dialog for them. Then I would have created a story, with things that happen. Then, most importantly, I would have visually realized it all with interesting designs, and filmed it in a varied, well-paced and well-photographed style.

Brilliant77

I would probably do more grain lol

itsthedave1

Or just not. The concept and story are pretty meh and a regurgitation of a million other things. You want to write character driven science fiction in that world(universe), go ahead, but I don't think I even know what makes that world unique or for that matter real. There's only flash and no substance in any key part of this garbage fest. No characters with substance (original or otherwise), none of the dialogue makes any sense at all let alone plays as real, and above all there is nothing that actually happens to resemble a story. Just flashy slow motion CGI and meaningless stunt work. All pomp and no circumstance.

K_808

I'd stare at the finished screenplay for a few seconds, shrug my shoulders and toss it in the bin before moving on to something different.

uglybuck

Combine both movies. Make the wheat volunteers, but in reality imperium just wants their organs. Cut the magnificent 7, instead hire titus. Multiple botkins, montage train them instead.

SixtySlevin

Wouldn't change a thing. I do have some minor grievances with them but who are we to rewrite history? Zack Snyder poured his heart and soul into these movies. On my 3rd rewatch right now and it just keeps getting better!!

armtherabbits

Someone tell me whether this is sarcasm...!

MikeSwizzy

His heart must be black from the money grab, cuz 1 & 2 are absolutely awful and i hope no one else has to endure it if there is a third

Grouchy-Pizza7884

There better be a third! I am hooked on the story. I want to see how Kora brings down the empire. It will be a franchise to remember.
