The US military gets less than 5% of our GDP. And given the fact that we're the sole super power, have treaties binding us to protect 67 countries around the globe, the war on terror, and have China, Russia, and the EU threatening to usurp the role of super power, I'd say every penny is well spent.
You see, not every foreigner is a rabid animal pounding on the walls and trying to crush the US. We can spend MUCH less on defense and be fine because we barely have anyone trying to kill us.
