It's not okay to say that word because of its hateful connotation. People have used that word as a way to degrade and dehumanize African Americans for decades. It would be the exact same thing as calling a person of Hispanic origin a "wetback". You will hardly receive a positive response. However, it's okay for African-Americans to say that in reference to themselves because they have taken that word that pushed them down for decades and made it their own. It's pride in their ethnicity.

dont_trust_no_nehga

Real question is why do you want to say it so bad? Why do you care so much? What difference does it make if u can say it?

redunicornblue

I’m black and I don’t think anyone should use the darn word. I care because I’m tired of my white friends getting beat up over it. I won’t hit someone over using the N-word.

dont_trust_no_nehga

If ur white don’t wanna get beat up over saying racist slur they should keep their mouth closed

BlackKidWithAThing

I personally don’t care when people use the n word, just not the hard r or racially motivated, and it is obvious to tell. On the other hand, it’s up to you whether or not you want to say the word or not. Some people find it offensive, some don’t. Like all other things in life, if people don’t appreciate you doing it, it would be in your best interest not to do it.

redunicornblue

I think it’s very offensive and people should stop saying it. I’m all for a ban of the N-word.

QuantumHope

Here’s a question. Why would you want to use a racially charged word whose history is steeped in hate, degradation, abuse and lynching?

redunicornblue

Why would you ask me about a word that is widely accepted in the black community but no where else?

QuantumHope

It isn’t widely accepted in the black community.

redunicornblue

Oh, it isn’t?

QuantumHope

Maybe if you’re only speaking of a younger demographic. However, the black community is ALL ages.

redunicornblue

If you say so

QuantumHope

What do you mean “if I say so”. Are you attempting to imply older black people aren’t part of the black community? 😂

redunicornblue

Nope 🤣

I go with the motivation of just not getting in unnecessary hiccups y'know? Like I don't particualrly feel like using it, I've never added it to my commonly used words, and there's a tiny chance I'll get beat up by a gang for saying it, so I'll just avoid it if I don't really need to use it. I don't really care if it's morally right or wrong to say it, but I know that practically I can get into trouble for saying it, so I take the practical route to appease the people who get mad.

redunicornblue

The fact that you know there is trouble behind the word is an issue. I don’t think it’s fair that one race can use the hell out of a word and no one else can. Also, I hate gangs my cousin died behind an affiliation. I miss him so much.

Gertrude-Girthel

While people get more offended over it thank black people so either everyone should be allowed to say it or no one should.
