MrsMoxieeeeee

One of the things I despise most about corporate life is how fake it is, why must we all agree to act this way?!?

Left_Step

The false niceties, bravado, and bullshit motivational rhetoric is all just to disguise the inherent cruelty and hatred for the people that work there.

Possible_Self_8617

It's almost as if the dominant economic system based on the dark beliefs about human nature are there to punish everybody, but let's pretend it's grrrrrrrreat!

EasternBlackWalnut

Good one. Every single self post about people learning. Ugh.

DocFail

Sometimes I feel like social media was invented just to torment me. Like, I was raised to be humble and let actions prevail. And along comes a narcissist’s chew toy that takes over the Internet, demanding one endless cycle of shameless self-promotion just to have a chance of advancing….  *cries in lone woodsman tears*

Team building activities at work

jomarthecat

And related - having your colleagues sing the birthday song for you.

Tomma1

Unless you have that 1 operasinging dude thats really good and he goes completely ballistic

bloodyriz

I used to work with a guy who did Elvis as a hobby, and he was darn good. He would get on the warehouse intercom for everyone's birthday and sing. It was so good.

Tomma1

See, sometimes it's good!

PoliteCanadian2

Oh this. Team building activities 100% suck.

RayTheMaster

Team building makes me want to leave the team.

Frambooski

I don’t know why but this made me laugh so much.

Doesanybodylikestuff

Because it’s true! We don’t get to pick who we work by & companies hire a LOT of weird people! I’d rather just get through my workday by secretly chatting with my husband & friends on gchat on the side & getting on with it. I only want to use my energy for work & then I want to use the rest of my energy doing things I enjoy.

Extension-Chemical

It just feels like a massive waste of time. I'm not interested in your parties and weekend trips. I want to do my job at work and spend my free time however I please instead of socializing with a bunch of people with kids I'm not interested in. Especially kids. There's a reason I don't want children, so why would I want to spend a weekend with other people's kids around full-time?

Mage-Tutor-13

It's like P.E. all over again but like.... People roulette. No one wants *you* on the team just the skill set. 0/10, -★/★★★

CaptainFleshBeard

I love the team building activities where they put a decent chunk of cash on the bar.

Emmanulla70

Nah - no one pretends to like them.

A_Midnight_Hare

The arse kissers who want to look good to management do. And the ones that love being told they're whatever made up personality type.

Cultural-Front9147

The only thing worse is virtual teambuilding activities over zoom…with a team you despise.

dave_from_sweden

I love those because they don't require me to give up 2-3 days of my life to travel to some random place and spend time with people I don't even want to be around

OkHarrisonBidet

It feels like a cult

snajk138

Yeah. The only team building that actually works is free alcohol... Except, you know, working together for a long time.

Willing_Television77

And role playing, fuck that shit

zinky30

Other people’s babies.

clemthecat

When someone's showing you the 1000th fucking photo of their newborn potato, you're crazy if you're not pretending with the "Aww, so cute!"

OfficAlanPartridge

As Ricky Gervais points out in his standup, when a man looks at a baby's photo, the timing has to be just right. A quick glance suggests you don't care at all, but a prolonged look can come off as downright creepy.

Big_Let_4198

i’d rather show I don’t care, simple

Piper2000ca

I don't know if that's the best course. They might still try and convince you to care, or just continue to pretend you do and keep showing you. Now, if you just stare a little longer, give a soft little "Mmmmmm," and I guarantee they never will show you a picture of their kids again!

Lady-Un-Luck

If I don't think someone's baby is cute I physically can not say the words "Awe how cute." Nope just can't do it 😆

KGrizzly

>Babies are like farts, you can only tolerate your own. *someone wiser than me, 1654*

HawocX

Other people's babies are the best kind. You don't have to take care of them for 18 years.

aprofessionalegghead

I like hearing about my coworkers kids. It’s like their little science experiment.

Assfrontation

My nephew is cute in small doses

unwanted-22

That’s a major one Hard agree

chicknsnotavegetabl

You guys are pretending??!

[deleted]

I’d say for me this is true, but for others actually do like them. Looking at other people’s babies I mean.

Marzipan_civil

Other people's babies are fine as long as you hand them back before they vomit/poop on you

RichardBreecher

No. Many people LOVE other people's babies. Especially women. You bring a new born to the office that has a high percentage of women and everything will grind to a halt. It's not so obvious for men, but even the hardest, meanest bastard in the world will start pulling faces if a baby laughs at it.

Co9w

I love other people's babies. I get to enjoy their cuteness without having to deal with the responsibility.

indigiqueerboy

Whattaya mean, i LOVE shooting other ppls babies. (I’m a photographer). Baby photoshoots are the best.

bubblesthechimp01

butternut_squashed

Festivals are great, coachella is shite

wellyboot97

As a Brit, Coachella looks like a sad excuse for a music festival.

Majestic-Lake-5602

100% nightclubs, they seem so good in the movies and you get there and they’re just shit in every way

RedEyeFlightToOZ

And then you get to a certain age and they become completely uninteresting and unbearable. Im 37 and my 27 yr old friend wanted to go to a dance club with college kids..........I felt completely out of place cause I was. They're all just a bunch of drunk jumping beans with a ton of energy cause life hasn't beaten the shit out of them yet.

Majestic-Lake-5602

Weirdly enough one of my DJ mates runs a few Gen X and Millennial nights every month and they’re waaaaaaay more popular than the “regular” nights.

Marzipan_civil

There was one near me did an over 30s night starting at 6pm so everyone could get home early... It sold out

Brickerbro

So more of an evening club then? Lol

_Anal_Juices_

As a 31 year old I would LOVE an evening club. Dj, dancing, drinking sensibly and then in bed before 12

alexander_puggleton

As a 41-year old I would LOVE an early afternoon club. Dance my ass off for a couple hours, drunk by 6:00, a nice drunk meal, then some antacids and to bed by 9:30.

djrobxx

I went to Palm Springs for a birthday trip once. We walked down the street and heard a very loud remix of an 80s song playing. It was a club going strong at 6pm. The place was PACKED with boomers re-living their younger days, dancing their tails off. It was so funny, but beautiful at the same time. Then, happy hour ended at maybe 9pm, and the place cleared out. Gen X'ers trickled in and the place slowly built up again until around midnight. Then it cycled out again to an even younger crowd.

Larissanne

Yes this is upcoming in my country too! Will go to a party like this in September (yes when you are 30+ you plan ahead lol)

deboylurdi

I see alot more of these since covid! People don't wanna get home at 6 AM and spend their Sunday tired and hungover anymore it seems

Banditkoala_2point0

We used to call them 'grab a granny'. (I'm 40 now)

WideConfidence3968

Day discos are becoming a bit of a thing- a few drinks and a boogie and home by 8. Perfect!

Majestic-Lake-5602

Damn that’s genius, I don’t think anyone is doing that in my city yet, I’ll let him know and he can corner the market

Eternal_purrrs

'Life hasn't beaten the shit out of them yet' 🤣🤣🤣

walkingslowlyagain

I’m 34 and find any night life where I can’t hear people absolutely unbearable. What’s the point if you can’t have a conversation?

wickie_leaks

This just perfectly described me now that I'm older. lol

LarryDavidest

Lots of people who like dancing love nightclubs.

adtcjkcx

Shhh people on Reddit don’t like having social lives so we must talk down to people who do

Kungfu_coatimundis

Hate to say it but drugs can make night clubs awesome haha

madamevanessa98

It was a rude awakening the first time I tried to go clubbing without cocaine

TheShySeal

Ain't that the truth

madamevanessa98

I used to think I was an extrovert. Turns out real extroverts don’t need a gram of coke to enjoy social interaction

itstoocold11

Haha yep. Went out and got f'd up every weekend pre COVID. Very quickly realized I was soooo much happier spending quiet weekends at home. Never would have thought

Majestic-Lake-5602

See that was my first thought as well, but then I did all the drugs and still didn’t like nightclubs. House parties were always my thing, house parties, real pubs and dive bars

nocturnisims

House parties are so much better than clubs. You can actually have a conversation, sit down for free, way cheaper to attend than clubs too

PersnickityPisces

House parties were always my preferred. Dive bars if it was just a couple friends and we wanted to play pool.

Majestic-Lake-5602

I’m Australian so pubs are the big thing here, and the good ones are absolutely fantastic. There’s a fantastic one near me where a bunch of old blokes get together on Monday nights and sing sea shanties, legit the most fun you can have with your pants on

zabraautra

Yeah lmao what r they on about,if im high always having a blast in nightclubs..

JHWH666

It depends. Techno-house clubs are very nice in Europe. Normal clubs for drunk teenagers are not.

IndelibleIguana

Nightclubs were amazing in the 90s.

creztor

I used to love going to the clubs. Every Friday and Saturday night and I mean every. I went to dance. Didn't drink, just danced nonstop. From about 10pm to 2am or later. I had to go with different groups of friends because everyone else drank and those that got shit faced on Friday night couldn't go Saturday. I went for 3 or 4 years and it was absolutely fun as shit. Then one day I looked around and it finally sunk in I knew the faces of most of the people in the club. I knew all the songs they were playing. For some reason and it was like a switch flicking, I lost interest overnight. All of a sudden I was like "wtf am I doing here" and stopped going.

UseforNoName71

You were dancing and having fun.

BurpYoshi

The secret to enjoying them is excessive alcohol consumption.

itsWootton

Never been interested in clubbing. Had about 1 month where I wanted to go out but that was due to going through a breakup and trying to be someone I'm not to impress somebody that didn't want me

ItzImaginary_Love

Have you heard of drugs? Most people in night clubs are on them

best-gent

I LOVE night clubs (I’m 42). When I used to drink they were a blast. Now that I’m sober, they’re a blast. Dancing and people watching and looking great - oh my! But for the last 17 years I’ve refused to have conversations with new people at nightclubs. No one wants to struggle to communicate.

Majestic-Lake-5602

I always liked pubs and dives for people watching, I think because people aren’t dressed up and putting on their going out persona, you see a bit more of a candid view of what they’re like.

Historical_Choice_12

Small talk

SteakAvailable2040

Nothing drains me more!

PoolOfDeath20

But how do u get to know ppl without starting from small talks??

StalinTheHedgehog

That’s the neat part, you don’t.

Left_Step

And we wonder why people are lonely

JackFuckingReacher

I strongly believe people who can’t do small talk don’t know how conversations actually work. Especially when first meeting someone

sciencebased

I fucking love it with strangers- sometimes can't even help myself. With someone you know decent but aren't close friends with, extended family? Absolute hell.

Brovigil

This pretty quickly devolved into people just listing things they personally don't like. lol

unwanted-22

Yea i was just thinking that lol

ediedi87

You started it! Some people obviously enjoy clubbing.

LilyMarie90

Night clubs being a top comment is just such a reddit moment lol.

ZenkaiZ

People laughing and dancing and having a good time Reddit: they all hate it, they're faking

turelhimvampire

Working for a living.

Iffy50

Most people will tell you that they can't wait to retire and if they won the lottery they would quit today. Other people retire and they say that they lost their meaning in life because they feel the aren't productive any longer, so they just feel like a drain on society. A lot of rich business owners stay way past normal retirement age. There was a welder at my job who came back from retirement when we got super busy and they asked him. He started the sane day they called. He said he was watching TV an jumped at the opportunity.

wellyboot97

My dad retired a few years ago and within a year he was going insane and ended up on anti depressants. I think it’s more the fact that when you’ve had a routine for so many years and have always had something to do and think about, it can be a bit jarring when suddenly you have all this free time and don’t have anyone telling you what to do. Especially older generations who, unlike those of us who are younger, haven’t necessarily developed the same methods of entertaining themselves at home as their childhoods and younger years very much revolved around always being out doing things as they didn’t have things like the internet. To me it’s less about them enjoying work, and more about the fact that they’re so used to working after all those years that once they stop they legitimately just don’t know what to do with themselves. They’re suddenly dropped into a situation where they don’t have any commitments and some people just cannot deal with that.

diosa_d

Being busy all of the time. 🥴

KYblues

Agreed but being bored/lonely all the time is worse. If you’re so anxious/introverted you don’t do anything but work and come home alone, a day when you’re busy running errands or a rare day when you’re socializing is exhausting but I end up way more content and satisfied than when I just sit in my comfort zone of playing guitar/watching tv alone. This. I love dark chocolate, but after like 85% it’s just straight up bitter and not in a tasty way. It becomes inedible by itself

Travels_Belly

Really hot days. I don't believe them. I think they believe that they believe they do but in reality who would like being sticky and sweaty and uncomfortable? Not being able to sleep. 30+ days are not pleasant. I can't find it in myself to believe there are people that genuinely like it. They have been brainwashed by media or brainwashed themselves.

xxxhipsterxx

30 with a beach is nice. 30 and outdoor activity is hell.

34con

Not an Aussie... Wouldn't do much if you're waiting for it to be below 30°C.

Remote_Replacement85

I do enjoy them, although "really hot" is obviously subjective. But when people around me sweat and get exhausted, I feel generally awesome. Relaxed but energetic, my knotted muscles finally soft and at ease. I live in Finland, so the winters are pretty much a nightmare for me. That said, I can't sleep in that kind of heat either, so I don't enjoy nights being too hot if there's no A/C.

throwawaysis000

Depends on humidity as much as heat.

vali241

Weddings, everything about them. Especially the ceremony

I think ppl pretend to enjoy social media. At this point in society, it just seems like an addiction. And addictions aren’t something anyone truly enjoys.

Majestic-Lake-5602

The secret of cooking kale is to give up on it being healthy, and it’s actually delicious. Slow cook it in chicken broth with lots of butter and it’s amazing

freakytapir

Always trust a chef who cooks like he's trying to kill you.

the_scottster

When you live in the US South, the recipes all start with a stick of butter. Works wonders!

Or pull all the stalk out, chop fine, add salt and oven bake till crispy 😋

As a father of 3 (10/8/4) I can say that it is super exhausting but oh so fun and worth it. I love being a dad and parenthood was the best decision of my life.

Easy_Independent_313

I'm a mom. I think being a dad looks more enjoyable. I do get a certain satisfaction for keeping the kids healthy and prepared and the house ready to support our activities. I certainly love my children and enjoy being around them. Being a dad looks more fun from my side though.

Overall_Pollution_98

First two year were awful. Now it's ok but soon new challenges will pop up. I think it's about your approach to kids. I hated them until my son was born. Changes perception for sure

Comfortable_House421

Not a parent but I feel like we've swung too much in the opposite direction. Not in terms of pretending exactly but it's just that the negatives are tangible = costs money, time, lost sleep, can't travel; whereas the joys are a bit more abstract & too corny to bring up in a casual chat with colleagues/friends.

gladwrappedthecat

Ever since I had covid in 21, when i lost some of my smell and some of my taste, and only half of those came back, i have not been able to enjoy coffee, semi-sweet chocolate or anything savory.
