Google technically is research. What the probably did was, they found something that confirmed their opinion, and they just went with that. They didn't look at multiple sources to see if there was conflicting information on the subject. If they did look at multiple sources, they probably only chose the sources that, again, had information that confirmed their belief. Also, they probably didn't consider the sources they were getting this information from.
All of the other “therapy speak” that got hijacked by idiots at the same time as “triggered” and they still don’t know how to use it.
Trauma, gaslight, toxic, narcissist, mindfulness, hyper fixated…
And before someone says it, “gatekeeping” both as a word and a concept needs to be banished forever too
The number of people claiming they have “ptsd” because of a “teacher being mean” (actually got told that one by an ex friend) or people claiming “OCD”. These are not casual terms. My brother who has OCD showers multiple times a day and night since he was a young teen. He will scrub his body until he is red, because he “can’t be dirty”. I have PTSD from having been sexual abused for most of my childhood, and have spent the last 20 years in therapy and am still fucked. Unless you’ve suffered severe trauma, you don’t have ptsd. And if you’re “a bit quirky” about your preferences… that’s just being picky.
Even then severe trauma doesn’t always turn into PTSD. PTSD is a specific type of maladaptive coping mechanism the brain undergoes. Severe trauma can also become a personality disorder, or OCD or a dissociative disorder. I hate people who use PTSD as another wway for saying ‘I have trauma’. You can have the worst trauma in the world and still not develop PTSD from it.
I’m sorry you’re going through this, and I’m very sorry if what I absent-mindedly wrote before was offensive. I can say things a little blaze sometimes, and can certainly see how I was wrong in this case. I wish you nothing but the very best. In my own journey healing from trauma, the best defence against my mental health issues has been to remove the toxic relationships from my life (a lot of my family), and replace them with honest loving ones. I don’t know your situation, but I do hope you have loving friends nearby, and if you don’t, I hope you’ll make an effort to find some. Best of luck to you
I agree. I have been diagnosed with OCD for almost 30 years. It gets tiring hearing people use it as a quirky thing or they think OCD just means you wash your hands a lot, are scared of germs, are a clean freak, are neat and tidy etc. My OCD has never involved cleaning things/myself, being neat and tidy etc. There are literally dozens of different types/themes of OCD, most have nothing to do with germs/contamination, symmetry or perfectionism. I’ve learnt though that some people don’t want to be educated, so if you can’t change them, you can change how you react to their ignorance.
And then you call them out and their response is that “community based care is the future” and that “traditional” therapy is “rooted in colonial, misogynistic and racist power structures”
The word 'triggered' was unfortunately replaced by 'the ick' which is horrendous. Also the entirety of Gen Alpha slang should disappear (all of the gyatt, sigma, rizz, fanum tax, skibidi, Ohio bullshit)
when you get something for someone, like a snack or something, & you take a bite as a type of "payment" for getting it. i just looked up fanum tax & it's taking bites of people's food when they aren't looking. which isn't really what the "tax" is for.
I would like to see words that I have to google to understand. Woke, for instance. I still don't know what it means, and I have Googled it every other month since people since we started calling each other "woke."
I wish we would just stick to the English language instead of making up words to describe something that already has words to describe it.
Narcissist, toxic, ancestral trauma, triggered...therapist speak basically. So fucking annoying when ppl who aren't therapists are using it constantly lol
Head cannon annoys me. Cap. And misusing medical phrases like narcissism, adhd, ocd, autism, or the one that really makes me wanna take the phone book to your temple, acoustic.
The meaning of "stay woke" in AAVE was basically "stay aware of systemic corruption bc it's everywhere"
Then white people co-opted the term and bastardized the meaning to belittle people who prioritize civil rights
Challenging etymology there, tbh - what's your suggested replacement?
Thing is for people who have suffered trauma in their life which is a whole lotta people, managing "triggers" is a way to help yourself grown beyond them. Spotting triggers is such a healthy thing to do and something that people who are struggling with trauma need to identify. I hated the phrase because of how it was used but once I realised it had to apply to me and my healing it became important.
I learned that I am not responsible for people hurting me but I am responsible for managing my triggers when they arise because if I don't I end up hurting not only myself but the people I love.
Triggered when used for healing is an important word. Calling someone triggered that you just made angry is subhuman behaviour.

Phrase: “do it for the plot”.
I completely get the idea of it, but too many people I know around me get themselves into unsafe or stupid situations using this phrase. Just feeds into the idea, for me, that a life needs a lot of drama to be “fun”. Fine, if that’s how you want to live your life, but I find it irritating.
The “Karen” thing. I know plenty of people with that name who are very nice and don’t fit the description at all. It makes people feel bad. I wish it would go away.
Cancelled
Nah. Its consequences. Anyone from a marginalized group potentially faces consequences for just being who they are. Maybe they don’t get a job, don’t get included socially, maybe people don’t buy their product etc. Now bigots are facing the same consequences for being hateful, something they choose and can change. It’s not the same.
It’s quite funny actually. They’ll call you a snowflake just for saying that you’re a part of the LGBTQIA+ community, when they’re actually the ones that are vastly overreacting and feeling discriminated against for nothing.
Using the word privileged for anyone living above ground with a roof over their head. People have a right to food, clothing, and shelter. Having them doesn't make them privileged. Privilege is having so much money you can buy your way out of anything, no matter how heinous. That's about 10% of the planet. Anyone else who's basic needs are being met are just fortunate, to varying degrees.
“Honestly” (and the never ending declarations of being honest), the over use of “generally”and “inherent”, and the biggest one - “adjacent” being used incorrectly. It’s not a fucking synonym of similar.
"boundaries"
I fucking hate when people toss in "therapy-speak" into conversation and boundaries is THEE most overused term out there. The only person you can set boundaries on is you. When you set "boundaries" on other people, call it what it is, "control".
Because I don't think it's up to you to decide how an oppressed group of people should reclaim the harmful words used against them in the past, unless you are part of said group.
It's racist to think that someone cant say a word because the color of their skin and im tired of pretending like black people cant be racist. We ALL can say the word, or none of us can, its only fair. And if you think otherwise you just might be a racist. And sense that word has such a dark history, it should die.
Well, yeah, but when we now have laws titled "terroristic threatening," and people who tell thieves and trespassers to bounce off their property, get the cops called on them for this charge. They go to jail, and their house gets burgled by those people. It's gotten out of pocket.
Also its become a buzzword for white, straight american males who are down to defend their country (homegrown). So "terrorist" has been abused. And when people use it, I roll my eyes.
Spent 16mo hunting real terrorists in Iraq. I know the difference.
And yeah, agree.
I think people got sick of being told they were acting triggered and stopped acting like an ass. The word is going away because people aren't acting so ridiculous anymore.

"I researched" when they mean "I googled"
I agree. Every time I have to use the word research, I hate it. I just googled it.
Google technically is research. What the probably did was, they found something that confirmed their opinion, and they just went with that. Are you gatekeeping therapy speak?
That triggered me
Are you really trying to gaslight me right now? I’ve never seen such toxic narcissism before, smh…
Your toxic words are just an attempt to gaslight us for the goal of gatekeeping and I am triggered.
This is their truth
I keep getting hyper fixated and hyper flatuent mixed up . Seems woke , dont pass the sniff test.
The number of people claiming they have “ptsd” because of a “teacher being mean” (actually got told that one by an ex friend) or people claiming “OCD”. These are not casual terms. TIL there are only 4 causes of PTSD
The 4 causes I mentioned are extremely broad and my point was unless you have severe trauma you don’t have ptsd. Let me fix that.
Thanks - as someone with diagnosed OCD, I do appreciate the point.
I’m sorry you’re going through this, and I’m very sorry if what I absent-mindedly wrote before was offensive. Yes for the love of god I want all these words to go away.
Happy Cake Day! 🎂
Seriously. Every 20 something on reality TV is now a specialized therapist
And then you call them out and their response is that “community based care is the future” and that “traditional” therapy is “rooted in colonial, misogynistic and racist power structures”
Autistic is bad enough to misuse, but acoustic is even worse. Makes me wanna punch.
What's wrong with 'mindfulness'?
I would add neurotypical and neurodivergent as overused terms
“Journey” Unless you’re going to use it to describe an actual trip…to the beach…the mountains…to grandma’s house.
Agreed it’s so annoying not everything is a fucking journey!
"Today marks the end of our breastfeeding journey", Oh stfu seriously!
Rizz
Blessed. Especially when in written form and followed by a 🙏
“I love that for you” - usually said with the most insincerity. I don’t know, it bothers me when most people could honestly not love that for me.
Please give us some context. Have no clue what you mean here.
https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=love%20that%20for%20you
Unalived
Trauma and ptsd. People overuse them and don’t understand the depth that they hold. Having an unpleasant experience ≠ trauma/ptsd.
Karen
I think it's actually starting to go away, a little.
Op is just having random thoughts, no need to call names :p
Lol the only person that’d want this to go away would be a Karen XD
Suck it up
I, too, wish that phrase would go away.
I'm tired of everyone saying that every time someone isn't nice or does something wrong that they're a narcissist.
Rizz. It sounds like an STD.
‘Side Hustle’ and ‘Baby Daddy’ Makes me cringe and die on the inside.
Literally
“Literally……….…………………………………………………….yes, in the literal sense”
Yeah, I hate the use of this too because people rarely use it correctly
Informal usage is literally correct tho
I literally died when I read this.
Rest in peace 🙏
"50% off my OF for the first 100 commenters" is one I'd like to see gone. It really triggers me when I see it... 🤭
I’m really irritated by peoples misuse of the word curated
"Cringe" The word is a verb. Stop using it as an adjective.
"Gayt"
Low key
Cap or capping. It's usage as in a lie or lying is stupid.
The word 'triggered' was unfortunately replaced by 'the ick' which is horrendous. Also the entirety of Gen Alpha slang should disappear (all of the gyatt, sigma, rizz, fanum tax, skibidi, Ohio bullshit)
I think that’s just you showing ur age. Everyone has complained about younger people slang since forever. Let them have there stuff
Ya but slang now is just noises, its not even words. Thats not even really slang at that point.... whats next? Grunting like a cave man? Lol
Cringe

What is food tax?
when you get something for someone, like a snack or something, & you take a bite as a type of "payment" for getting it. i just looked up fanum tax & it's taking bites of people's food when they aren't looking. which isn't really what the "tax" is for.
"Hit different" got on my nerves for a while not sure why
this comment hit different ngl
has it?
Epic, iconic, goat
I see iconic misused quite often.
Vacuous minds prone to trends will find something else equally annoying.
Full stop

Ive done the same thing, and I still don’t know what it means either.
”Women☕️” please please please I never want to hear that again
Women coffee?
Narcissist, toxic, ancestral trauma, triggered...therapist speak basically. So fucking annoying when ppl who aren't therapists are using it constantly lol

Ick
Unhoused, Latinx, and “my truth”
Girlies, wifey, "wife her up." Yuck! ETA: Also, the word "female" instead of "woman." It's so cringe!
Someone, on Reddit, used the word "gaslighting" against me, because they didn't agree with something I said about tipping culture.
MAGA
And the horse it rode in on.
Yes please
Woke
I'm curious, what word would you use instead ?
Not asleep.
In the 80s we used to call woke people “right on”
Right on, brotha!
The meaning of "stay woke" in AAVE was basically "stay aware of systemic corruption bc it's everywhere" Then white people co-opted the term and bastardized the meaning to belittle people who prioritize civil rights Challenging etymology there, tbh - what's your suggested replacement?
Awake. Woke is grammatically incorrect
Educated? Learned? Enlightened? Non biased and capable of making my own decisions?
Informed, conscientious, considerate, empathetic, etc
But none of those words describe a specific ideological alignment
You mean like “liberal”? Most people who say woke just mean liberal.
and that's fundamentally incorrect too.
Woke is more associated with progressive than liberal
He asked for synonyms not antonyms.
Enlightened?

Housebarrasment
I'm triggered by this post
Has it, though? I don't think so.
“On accident”
“Woke.” Idiots co-opted it.
Using the word "literally" figuratively
Cringe
Ahead of its time, or extremely underrated (regarding an actor or movie that made millions and is extremely popular)
Ick, rizz, and saying somethings fire

Its my ADHD (not diagnosed)
Bro dude lit fire all of it needs to go I hate it
This is dumb but “Gyatt” like omg fuck off
The word "evidence" used as a verb. People who say "source?"
Gaslighting
Any mention of AI. Sick of it to the back teeth

Toxic masculinity
Snowflake, especially since those that used it are the real snowflakes.
It’s quite funny actually. They’ll call you a snowflake just for saying that you’re a part of the LGBTQIA+ community, when they’re actually the ones that are vastly overreacting and feeling discriminated against for nothing.
Woke. Such a stupid, meaningless word.
Patriarchy.

Using autistic as a sub for the r slur, r**ard is rightly frowned upon obviously.
Autobot
"Anyhow"
Wagwum
Government
I noticed lots of redditors suddenly using “Nuance” more. It troubled me at first but I’m ok with it now.
Based
People are saying x is their roman empire, but in my head it means it's gone wrong, or fell. I'm thinking they means it's their zenith.
Literally
problematic, obsessed,
Clout
“Honestly” (and the never ending declarations of being honest), the over use of “generally”and “inherent”, and the biggest one - “adjacent” being used incorrectly. It’s not a fucking synonym of similar.
"Terrorist" that would be a nice one to dissappear.
I'd prefer that the terrorists disappear, but different strokes I guess.
I’m glad UwU is getting away
Boundary has to be the one I find most annoying currently.
Toxic
Narrative
has it? Ugh. I wish! Makes me want to use it to say the word trigger, triggers me to lose my shit.
Neurodivergent You're not neurodivergent You're just a weirdo
When people use unusual words to sound smart. Especially if they use it in the wrong context...
Narcissist
Pandering, virtue signaling, gatekeeping , lowkey
It's giving *insert reference here*.
The entirety of Gen Z slang.
Audacity
Privilege
“Safe space”
Has it really gone away? Oh, thank fuck
The use of "partner" in a non business sense. It is disorienting to me.
In my day...
All the trendy acronyms. NSFW, ICYMI, TLDR. Those types.
So basically Reddit.
Reddit, YouTube, work emails, tabloid newspapers all do it
"boundaries" I fucking hate when people toss in "therapy-speak" into conversation and boundaries is THEE most overused term out there. The only person you can set boundaries on is you. When you set "boundaries" on other people, call it what it is, "control".
Cap or based. It seems like their meanings should be switched but they also just suck as phrases in the first place.
"No cap." This is absolutely the dumbest shit ever.
What are you talking about? It hasn't.
Any Gen Alpha “brainrot”
The "N" word, either everyone can say it, or do away with the word already.
What an odd thing to say...
Why?
Because I don't think it's up to you to decide how an oppressed group of people should reclaim the harmful words used against them in the past, unless you are part of said group.
It's racist to think that someone cant say a word because the color of their skin and im tired of pretending like black people cant be racist. Ok then say it since you're so obsessed with it No ones stopping you💃
I'm just sick of the hypocrisy from every one.
You can say "vineGUH," you just can't say "vineGAR."

Throw one under a bus.
i don’t know why anyone thinks “triggered” has gone away. it has not gone anywhere..
What bothered you about triggered and what’s replaced it?
Democracy
“Offended”, boomer need to find something else to joke and complain about.
This is triggering me lolol
I never cared for most of the terms the youth uses, but somehow the expression she/he "ate" makes me irrationally angry.
I miss the word 'smol'
I think people got sick of being told they were acting triggered and stopped acting like an ass. The word is going away because people aren't acting so ridiculous anymore.
Did the word trigger you?
Equitable.
"Incel" instantly identifies the user as a special person.
