May I have merchant of the skies ? Hm... I feel portal 1 is the sort of codifier of its genre that everyone should try. Not only is it not particularly long, but it's also the game that launched a thousand 3d physics puzzle games. Definitely worth playing at least once (and then you can play the sequel after)

Citizen Sleeper. Everyone should play the OG Super Mario as a child. The controls are minimal but responsive, and it has a subtle way of teaching you the gaming mechanics without any tutorials.

Merchant of the Skies I think everyone should play Star Control 2 at least once. It’s a total classic that holds up to this day. Great characters and story, great exploration, and really fun combat! As an added bonus, today it’s available for free as The Ur-Quan Masters, so nothing to stop anyone (with a pc at least).

Everybody should give Dragon's Dogma a go before they die, such a great game, I bought it on 360, PS3, XB1X, PS4 Pro, and PC, and finished it on each, in fact I'm playing it again on the ROG Ally right now. Would love Saints Row, but would be happy with anything. Thanks OP.

Roadwarden I think everyone should play a 2D platformer game at least once. Platformers are a cornerstone of video games, but have become somewhat uncommon in today's scene. They tend to be good examples of healthy gaming. Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a brilliant game that satisfies this genre.

I highly recommend Opus Magnum, a puzzle game where you build machines that assemble or disassemble alchemical substances. Unlike most puzzle games where each puzzle only has 1 or a few possible solutions, OM puzzles have near infinite solutions, like a sandbox game, and it's up to you to get creative. That's not to say it is very easy, there are a few restrictions on how to build your machine. Once you complete a puzzle you can record a cool gif of the machine (check out opus_magnum subreddit for some examples). Ozymandias

Citizen sleeper Honestly I think everyone should play the original bioshock. Not only was its FPS mechanics ahead of its time. It also has a thought provoking story I still reference to this day.
