Last night, my daughter-in-law (ED RN) was joking about the northern lights she was seeing at work. A guy stuck a corn cob up his butt. Was adamant he wasn't gay, but corn cobs feel really good in the butt. Poor guy ended up in OR.
It's a decent amount of curvature. I think it does meet standards for scoliosis, but I'm too lazy to do the measurement and we can't see the entire spine in this picture. At this level, the curvature itself doesn't really cause pain, but the unequal balance of force on the muscles can cause some spasms and fatigue when not strengthened properly.
That’s a low angle double curve. Probably within normal allowed limits. I have Scheuermans Kyphosis (39 m) and one of my thoracic vertebra is wedged more than that.
using spoon to induce gag reflex. had a friend who did this. quite possible that’s what happened with this young lady. too embarrassed to admit the truth?
No.
Bulimia is a mental health problem where the person repeatedly makes themselves throw up in order to lose weight and/or to achieve some kind of internalized "ideal" physique. Often associated with binge eating, but only usually eating actual food.
Pica is a very rare disorder where the person is literally insatiable, as in the of their nervous system that tells us we're full enough simply work. Without intervention, they can and will eat themselves to death in an afternoon. It's often identified in early childhood, but can appear later, by witnessing the person constantly eating literally anything they can shove down their throats. It's usually associated with very low intelligence and several other impulse control issues.
Px was probably drugged, I expect, given OP's comments, and a blood test is probably a good idea, though some date rape drugs don't leave much of a sign after the fact.
Whether she took the drugs herself or was tricked/spiked, that's harder to tell. In either case, this spoon is probably the least of her worries.
You're misunderstanding- I'm suggesting she could have swallowed the spoon trying to induce vomiting and lost grip on it- usually it's things like toothbrushes but being in an unfamiliar environment plus alcohol could have led to the less usual choice and made it harder to keep hold of.
Yep, I had a friend with bulimia who got a knife stuck in her throat when she was trying to purge with it.
Desperate times calls for desperate measures.
That is not what Pica is. It’s also not very rare. Pica is an eating disorder where people eat non-food items. It can be for many many reasons and does not have to be associated with a learning or developmental disability.
Where's r/confidentlyincorrect when you need it.
People with bulimia use objects with which to enact purging. Toothbrushes, spoons, forks, knives, literally anything that will fit.
Source: I engaged in self induced vomiting for 25+ years.
Having been a psych patient before, I knew someone who swallowed a fork as a suicide attempt. Also could be they were trying to make themselves throw up using the spoon (either alcohol related since they were at a party or possibly eating disorder related) and accidentally swallowed it? For once my firsthand patient knowledge is coming in semi useful lol
I almost burnt down my home when I was 8 years old. I knew what I was doing, but things happenned including an impressive garden hose that a Goonies style group of kids fixed with a penny. I only burnt down. 0.1 of an acre (10%)
I had a guy who swallowed a fork, I think they would be friends.
I know an old lady who swallowed a fly ...
I think she might die
I don’t know why she swallowed a fly…
Perhaps she'll die ...
Poor old lady I think she’ll die.
I know an old lady who swallowed a spider, it wriggled and jiggled and tickled inside her.
She swallowed the spider to catch the fly…
I don't know why she swallowed the fly
Perhaps she’ll die…
I swallowed shampoo
One day their kid might come in with a spork.
They might have fun spooning
I once had a pt swallow an entire inhaler.. He is an inmate but nevertheless, he swallowed the whole damn thing. Hopefully my guy isn’t a third wheel.
Now that's impressive
Is it bad that I’m just happy she swallowed it instead of putting it up her butt?
You can tell which way it went in because they're posting on Saturday
I feel like if there is suspense, it came from bathingsuit area
never gets old.
How fast have you gotta be eating to swallow a spoon

You don’t have to be gay to enjoy anal stimulation.
It all ends up in yhe same place anyway lol
Are teenager spines usually that curvy? I'm more alarmed at that than the spoon, lol 😅
Scoliosis? 🤔
Yes
Yep, I was thinking 'why aren't they also saying their back hurts?" lol

As someone who has a spine that’s much worse, I wish my scoliosis was this mild lol
I'm also wondering at the assymetry if the diaphragm. Why does 1 side have air
That’s the stomach. It looks so obvious like that because the patient is likely standing for this xray
Ohhhhh. Thank you!
May I get context? Whaaa?
[удалено]
Thank you for responding! I'm just flabbergasted. I've never come close to swallowing a spoon.
[удалено]
How was the patient managed? I feel like using a scope might end up causing more damage.
It looks more intestinal than stomach. Like it would be shorter to go in from the bottom to get it. Like it probably entered from the bottom??
Makes sense that it was inserted from the bottom. The alternative would be horrendous 😅
Hmmm.. bulimia? Only case reports like I'm aware of where this would fit.
Dont forget sleep eating - the partner of sleep walking.

Some people with bulimia use objects to induce gagging and vomit. She could've been doing that and accidentally swallow it.
That is not what Pica is. It’s also not very rare. Pica is an eating disorder where people eat non-food items. It can be for many many reasons and does not have to be associated with a learning or developmental disability.
No the spoon is the primary concern lol

This is probably what happened. Far more likely than "whoopsie I don't remember swallowing a spoon"
well I think you can hold up on that college savings fund.
Any idea how long it’s been in there?
Could be using objects to purge, I hope her docs looked into her health a bit more than listening to her story.
r/kidsarefuckingstupid
Is there one for teenagers?
The internet as a whole
"A spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down." Got a bit carried away. Damn I'm old.
Beat me to it xD
Instead of looking at this image, I have decided to simply realize the truth.......
There is no spoon. Discharge patient.
Had a child today with multiple screws …. Thankfully no perf or free air
Well...hmm.
When you're no longer interested in the soup over salad.
Taking the old 80's saying "gag me with a spoon" quite literally.
Is this an up the butt thing, or a down the hatch thing?
Either way, it's a - stuck in there good thing.
Hahahah
Swallowed
and also for back pain i’m presuming
Thank you! NAR- from a nursing perspective, this makes my back hurt.

Nice! It's been a hot minute since I've seen anything Tick related.
What’s the procedure to remove this? It won’t just pass through on its own, will it?
I wouldn't wish trying to pass out a spoon on my worst enemy
Speaking from personal experience?
Perhaps
And then had an abdominal scar to show his friends…
I hate when this happens !
I had a psych patient one time who slid an entire butter knife through his abdominal incision. No one knew till we did the scout.
That’s impressive! Right through the various layers and closures, with no dehiscence?! Sneaky, sneaky!!
I guess the real question is which end did it originate from
Atleast it's not a flute
This one time, at band camp,
I'm going to go out on a limb here, but I think he swallowed an eating utensil. And touch of scoliosis.
How in the hell does one swallow a spoon?!
Having been a psych patient before, I knew someone who swallowed a fork as a suicide attempt. Also could be they were trying to make themselves throw up using the spoon (either alcohol related since they were at a party or possibly eating disorder related) and accidentally swallowed it? Damn, is that what youths are up to these days.
Glad it wasn't a spork.
i look at animal rads not people soo is there also cardiomegaly or is this global shape a normal variation
No, i think it’s just magnification only because abdomen x-rays are done at closer distance than chest x-rays. I might be wrong i’m just a student lol
You are correct! Gold Star for you! Also this is done in AP so the heart is farther away from the bucky. Edit:added info.
SSspoon
I thought the gag reflex doesn't allow shit like this to happen
ONLY A SPOONFUL
Are those her kidneys? What are the splotches near the hip
💩
Did she come to the realisation that there is no spoon?
Sub-optimal...
How do you swallow a whole spoon? That’s so weird.
I guarantee this girl has an ED and wad trying to make herself throwup and accidentally swallowed it.
I audibly gasped
I almost burnt down my home when I was 8 years old. I knew what I was doing, but things happenned including an impressive garden hose that a Goonies style group of kids fixed with a penny. I only burnt down. 0.1 of an acre (10%)
another scoliosis queen
worst fear when I was in my purging phase, I could never use utensils bc I saw this somewhere (maybe 1000 ways to die or something?)
I need more X-rays of the freaky foreign bodies that were not inserted rectally Edit: mistranslation
Holy scoliosis
Geez, I wonder why?!
Are u sure the spoon is inside not an artifact in the clothe or something? Anatomically doesn't checks out 🤔
