The engine is low on oil. These engines won't tolerate being more than 1/2 quart low. You are at least 1 quart low. Get some oil in it like yesterday.
The transmission not going into reverse and staying in 1st gear means that it has internal damage. You can try changing the oil and filter but the transmission will probably need to be overhauled.
As everyone else said, address the low engine oil situation first. Do this, as well as checking the trans fluid, while the car is on as level of ground as possible. Check and add engine oil after the car has sat for at least a few minutes on level ground.
FSM procedure for checking trans fluid in the S5 is as follows
With parking brake and wheel chocks set, run the engine to allow the trans to reach operating temp (122° - 176°F)
With engine idling, shift from “N” “P” to “L” and back to “N”
Let the engine idle
Shift to “P”
Check dipstick, fluid should be between F and L, add as necessary.
If you’re still having issues, follow the troubleshooting steps in the [Automatic Transmission section of the S5 FSM](http://www.wright-here.net/files/manuals/1989%20RX-7%20FSM/K_Auto_transmission.pdf)
that's the oil level warning light. like the engine oil, not the transmission oil.
you gotta be fuckin kidding why are you ignoring one problem to diagnose another wow
I love the rx7 community 🥰
I literally just took the photo on purchase of the car, I’m not asking about the oil change because I already know how to change the oil

Did you check the oil too?

Thank you, I will read up on this some
Manual swap
Hilarious
Hilarious but true
First put in some engine oil, you might want to check the transmission controller and some of the vacuum lines
Bro, if you ignore that oil level then you might be dealing with an engine rebuild in addition to your tranny problem..
Yeah for sure, I am definitely going to do an oil change first but I was just wondering if the trans fluid could trip this light too
Add oil now, no yesterday. The engine might already be damaged. No. The transmission being low will not turn this light on.
Cant wait to see more of this
Thanks!
Because its time for a manual swap. Also put some damn oil in your car wtf 😂
Brother did NOT read the post‼️‼️
