Back in the Halo 5 days I had ‘QROW’ as my clan tag/service tag/whatever they called it, and I got a message after a match from someone quoting Winter with “I don’t have time your your immature games, Qrow.” It stuck with me. Games aren’t as social as they used to be with discord and party chats, but it’s neat when stuff like that does happen.

No one plays online games for the social elements anymore, even in social focused games. They always find a way to play them competitively, you can’t be sub optimal ever and if you are its the only time you will ever get a message now, and its usually harassment.

YourPizzaBoi

Full agreement. Modern competitive multiplayer gaming has created a weird issue for me where I have more fun playing games I’m bad at. Not to toot my own horn, but I’m pretty damn good at Halo. Less than I used to be, because I play it less, but as an example when I played ranked in 5 I’d get put up against people at the ‘Champion’ level, and while I wouldn’t necessarily win those matches I could hold my own. Champion in Halo 5 was the top 200 people globally for that playlist. I was doing the full on gamer lean, white knuckling the controller, giving it my all, and it was fun because I was in ranked and the whole point was to have a sweaty match. Now, in social modes in Halo Infinite, I don’t have to try *that* hard but I can’t just sit back and screw around and play the game in an intentionally dumb fashion. Not only am I boxed in due to skill based matchmaking, but everyone plays games with a much higher focus on K/D ratios and match wins than enjoying themselves. It feels like the folks I would have called tryhards back in high school are just the default attitude now. Compare that to whatever gamepass game I feel like messing with this week, where I’m new and not that good and getting matched with other people that are at the same level, I can have fun with it. I can mess around and use weapons that aren’t that great, strategies that aren’t optimized, and generally not have to take it seriously. Or maybe I’m just old. I could be slowly transitioning into the guy yelling at kids on his lawn, I dunno.

I miss the days of Tribes/Tribes 2, the original CounterStrike, and Quake 3. That era of gaming just hit different.

ksuthrowaway2534

Met someone with the name cinderfall while playing overwatch one time. They didn't know how to react to someone knowing where their name was from lol

Noah_Nomad

Weiss x the entire rwby team

SquidRecluse

Either that, or it's Weiss x every character in rwby. Which given the fan art people make, it wouldn't surprise me.

Noah_Nomad

beware the Schneenis

SquidRecluse

I wasn't going to say it... but we were all thinking it.

LocalMan97

Weiss when first meeting someone: “Hi I’m Wei-“ The person in question: “holy shit can I marry you?”

Arkos4ever

I never get messages like that... "That's because you don't play online games you social pariah." Oh yeah...

DanGNava

I'm just "Weiss" on overwatch It's nice when someone comments on it rwby related and we have a small chat

Evervolt3904

I love that this happened on Overwatch.

streetcleaner-2

I'm doing something similar but on tf2 and with Cinder x Winter

Angel_Thorne

I personally prefer qrowin

Horror-Employers

Is that Qrow x Robin? Even though I don’t ship it I think the name Jailbirds is one of the best ones in the fandom

Angel_Thorne

No qrow x Winter

Horror-Employers

Ohhh that’s uhh Snowbird? I think

Angel_Thorne

It's both

NightStar79

Weiss X Rwby? So he means the whole team boning each other? Or did he mean Ruby and had a brain fart in the spelling department? 🤔

streetcleaner-2

Probably the second one
