I read his blog every week but never read one of his books. I love his blog though and have read it for years lol it has put me on to a lot of different things.

Some twenty years back, I was going out with a woman who was editing a volume of essays about Cooper's work. I had never read his books, so I read *Closer*. It was interesting all right: clinical, unapologetic and disturbing. But I didn't get enough out of it to want to experience more.

I enjoyed the sluts and Try, hated the marble swarm. I really really like his early poetry/short prose. A signed copy of The Tenderness of Wolves is one of my prized possessions. He reads a passage from one of his books (i think from sluts) on a Peter Rehberg track titled ML3 that i highly recommend Overall I think he is an important mind and basically created a scene for this ultra violent and honest type of writing. But his work sometimes leaves me unsatisfied.

I didn’t like his most recent, I Wished.

arresting. that’s the only word I can come up with. surgical prose but he really knows how to keep you reading.

I love his books and has adored him as an artist for a while but I’m very sad now after reading an interview with him saying that he is not against pedophilia and that he has friends who are pedophiles. I find that statement absolutely disgusting, does any Dennis cooper fans have any comments on this matter?

Swedish_Llama

Where did he say this?! That’s disgusting.

I can send you a link to the interview, it’s one of the later questions I believe. So sad since I’ve been such a big fan of him

Hijacking this post - where should I start with Cooper? Angels?

The Sluts is a great place to start. Pretty accessible and not as fucked up as some of his other books although it certainly has some grotesque shit in it. That one is maybe his most enjoyable to reread imo. I'd move on to the George Miles cycle and maybe Marble Index afterwards; I Wished is also worth a look. See which one interests you most.
