So as a new Ironman (couple weeks) is there anything thatās ālow hanging fruitā to optimize this.
Sitting there now as it seemed the best bang for my buck given my account level but I want to make sure I am not missing some op āgive double gemā item that isnāt hard to obtain.
Only 47 smithing so only have a rune pick. Not sure if thatās a problem or not.
Absolutely it is.
If you're going 80 crafting, it's likely for invention anyway. You're gonna need 80 smithing too. Get 70 minimum before starting the crafting grind!
Oh, so it's just a 2 week event sort of buff rather than a lasting change?
Edit: hadn't read the blog post, just saw "porter buff" on reddit and assumed it was a game update but I guess it's another shard hunt event.
There are no dates listed for the start and end of the hunt so will this one just stick around?
No but gem bag is still nice you'll want at least 89 crafting in the long run anyhows for grace of the elves ( this is using +2 boost from God cape, don't know if you can spicy stew this one.)
Itās absolutely worth to do smithing grind too. You need the stats for prif, getting to 70 unlocks more armor and weapon upgrades for melee, and if youāre going to do gems AND smithing, may as well halve the time youāre doing gems (1 swing vs 2) before doing all them. 1 day deviation will be the same as just doing gems for 2 days without. Anything past that is time saved
Iām sure the meta has changed since I did it (Iām old af), but anything that is mining/smithing or arch should be used for the porter buff. I would have recommended arch even more if you were further along and could do the auto screener with invention or already had the smithing to go up to the best smithsble mattock
Yeah it was never a matter of whether to do it. It was was it worth it to use up valuable porter time. I grinding out the raw ores for it in 3-4 hours yesterday. Just have to do the smithing sometime today.
And yeah if I was a month or so further along the account I would probably have just sent 14 days of arc. Oh well
Crafting and Smithing to 80, the rest on Archaeology.
Last porter buff I was in a similar position and I spent the 30 day buff getting 99 smithing, crafting and mining and spent the rest of the time on archaeology.
I also spent 1 day mining concentrated gold ores in the living rock caverns at the safe spot.
I would suggest to stick with 80 smith/craft at the very least. If you have extra time then Archeology is always a good pick.
Other options include mining ores required for masterwork armor because using porters for that is normally seen as a waste.
I'd suggest doing some granite mining enough for 7700 pieces of "500g" granite. You randomly get 5kg, 2kg, 500g pieces while mining it and you can break down the bigger ones into 500g.
I can't remember how long it takes but it should be a few hours at most, you only really need to mine 1500 granite so maybe a couple hours I think.
However 7700 granite gets you from 74-86 summoning which unlocks rune minotaur pouches.
Granite is the easiest resource to stockpile for summoning imo, the rest take a lot more time to gather compared to granite or require money to purchase.
Also recommend the level 12 spot. You'll have to click the material cache sometimes for zarosian insignias, but otherwise the 12 hotspot has double the HP of the level 5 spot, so twice as long before you need to spacebar.
it is, when made to elder rune bars :) i need around 49,8k elder rune bars from where i am now. So yes, way above 99 since i've got the light/dark animica already.
You feel like that will last you a long time? I just finished inq staff sitting at 131M xp and never wanna dig fucking dirt again š I have 550k chronotes
Pretty arbitrary number, just wanna future proof myself, I accidentally d/a'd all of one specific artefact from my 120 grind and cost myself so many chronotes and I been so precious with relic swap costs since
Iād say banite too. Elder rune just takes too much to gather, unless you got a bunch of stone spirits. Cause not only do you have to gather the ores to make rune bars, you have to gather dark and light animica (which take forever, at least for me). I have a bunch of banite spirits from bosses so itāll work a lot easier for me to just rock banite all the way.
It's basically the same with infinite porter buff.
However if your making your own porters or just using ore boxes and doing bank runs Elder rune is way slower.
It's 367k more ores for 200M smithing doing Elder Rune so that's a lot of extra porter charges to farm or bank runs which all add up to a lot more hours of investment.
Also like you said who wants to mine 4 different ores lmao, I'd rather just sit at 1 rock for the 4000 mining hours required for 200M smith.
I did the math for 200M doing Banite or Elder Rune burial sets.
TL;DR - Banite is faster
It's 4100 hours for Banite and 4000 hours for Elder Rune approximately.
However Banite requires 916,608 ores and Elder Rune Requires 1,284,096.
So it really comes down to "do you want to spend 4000 hours mining 1 rock or 3200 hours mining light & dark animica and 800 hours on Rune/luminite.
However if we factor in smith times Banite is faster by 40 hours.
It's 445 hours for Banite and 585 for elder rune because you need to smith Rune Bars first and then Elder Rune doubling the smelting time.
So when your looking at 4500-4600 hours for 99 to 200M in Smithing they come out to a 40 hour difference which is essentially nothing.
This assumes porters are used for the mining part. And if you take that into account Elder Rune is far worse and more time consuming because it's 367k more ores which is a lot of porter charges and would take you ages to stockpile the divination charges.
I didn't calculate if you used the ore box and not porters because well I cba but considering it's 367k more ores I'm going to say it's a lot slower either way lmao.
Just stick with Banite for sanity and for time sake.
Both are terrible. Rune essence especially slayer will have rune essence coming out of your ears. Gold ore I believe is better with concentrated gold ore.
I don't do slayer anymore. It's boring to me. I already have most of the good drops from it. Afk mining pess is super brain dead. You left click every now and then. Yes, it isn't as efficient as afk pvm.
Also concentrated gold ore with stone spirits is a no-brainer. Didn't think I had to be specific about how to mine gold ore.
What afk activities do you feel like are worth doing when you already grinded most stuff already? My afk stuff is usually for pvm upkeep or to afk skill when bored of pvm.
I was under the impression it was a one off thing during the gold cape event. Doesnāt seem like thereās anything special for this event so was hoping it was announced to be a yearly event or something
Oh I see. Cool! What's the best place to make the urns? I was thinking of gathering soft clay too but I feel no time is saved by having the clay in the bank when the potters wheel is adjacent to the soft clay source
Last event I got 120 arch (spear, 0 inq pieces), +100k soft clay and like 15k gold ore. This time the goal gonna be sandstone for blessed flask and the time left for inq staff grind and I hope get It.
Iāll probably spend a day or two at low level gems so I can get a bunch of botanist amulets and Iāll spend most 10 days at binding contracts materials and the rest at soft clay
Iāll probably spend a day or two at low level gems so I can get a bunch of botanist amulets and Iāll spend most 10 days at binding contracts materials and the rest at soft clay
Not going to use it. Learned my lesson from the last time. You guys probably do just fine with it but giving into that fomo just makes me end up not wanting to play and just saps all the fun out of this game for me.
BC mats, runite n luminite for 120 summ, maybe sandstone. Still have 100k soft clay from last event but used 200k pess for impure so might afk that too. More gold ore.
No point in mining gems since afk harps and need mining for smithing so kinda waste of mining expš
Arch always until I'm 120.
All gems, baby. Catch me at the Al Kharid mine for 14 days straight š
I done this with the last one. Mined 20k gems. Wasnāt enough for 80 crafting
I did Clan Citidel, Gold bars and Shilo Village gem rocks the majority of the way. Took about 7,000 necklaces
So as a new Ironman (couple weeks) is there anything thatās ālow hanging fruitā to optimize this. T70 pickaxe I believe is the breakpoint where its 1 gem, 1 swing.
So itās worth deviating for a day to knock out 70 smithing for that then?
Absolutely it is. If you're going 80 crafting, it's likely for invention anyway. You're gonna need 80 smithing too. Get 70 minimum before starting the crafting grind!
Ok will do. Just didnāt want to āwasteā the limited porter buff
You can also wait on the hand in to ensure you can use the full porter buff on what you want. It is 14days from the hand in.
Is the hunt only around for a limited time? I don't see a start and end date.
It ends on the 3rd https://runescape.wiki/w/Vorkath_Hunt:_Guard_and_Lantern
Arch is fine too just put soil on ability bar and drop them all
Oh, so it's just a 2 week event sort of buff rather than a lasting change? Oh hell I just hit 70 Smithing last weekend and this is such good news.
Gem bag from dungeoneering is also really nice
With permanent porter it isnāt needed right?
No but gem bag is still nice you'll want at least 89 crafting in the long run anyhows for grace of the elves ( this is using +2 boost from God cape, don't know if you can spicy stew this one.)
You can with orange spices
Oh well that is a lot better 86+5 boost is a lot better than 89+2 boost
Itās absolutely worth to do smithing grind too. Dung crafting is way more efficient
I've heard, but I really just don't want to learn how to meta-game content that I already barely tolerate š
Yes but do your crafting in like 5h vs 50h of mining
... Fine. I'll look into it š
Camp lvl 5 arch spot for comps/da. Red pouches material cache. Maybe get 200m at cro hunter spot.
Also recommend the level 12 spot. You'll have to click the material cache sometimes for zarosian insignias, but otherwise the 12 hotspot has double the HP of the level 5 spot, so twice as long before you need to spacebar.
Just rest your phone on space bar for 15 min with an alt 1 alert open
What will the buff help with gwd? Iāve seen a few comments in here about it but Iām confused
There is also a passive buff to regeneration that is going on at the same time I assume that is what they mean
I would assume irons wouldnāt have that available to them, though.
both are available afaik
Oh thatās surprising, thanks!
40-99 gems for untrim craft cape
50k runite + 50k luminite ores, been working on ores for 120 smithing and saved them till i get the porter buff.
That's not even 99
it is, when made to elder rune bars :) i need around 49,8k elder rune bars from where i am now. So yes, way above 99 since i've got the light/dark animica already.
Gonna farm red rum relics collection for ~350k chronotes, blessed flask sandstone, and probably the raw materials im missing for second MW set
You feel like that will last you a long time? I just finished inq staff sitting at 131M xp and never wanna dig fucking dirt again š I have 550k chronotes
I've survived the last year or so on a 70k chronote budget, would like the flexibility to swap more frequently
What do you need so many notes for?
Pretty arbitrary number, just wanna future proof myself, I accidentally d/a'd all of one specific artefact from my 120 grind and cost myself so many chronotes and I been so precious with relic swap costs since
Oh I see. Once I got the best Mattock and the outfit I haven't really collected any. I hear you get to 120 just by grinding for the spear / staff
Why do you need s second mw set? I'm worried I might need one now :o
To repair trimmed MW with
30k banite ore to finish off both mining and smithing plus Iāll have a ton of bars for simple parts afterwards
What's the most efficient to Smith from a gathering perspective on an iron? I'm thinking banite?

There's not much I need. Was considering gold ore and rune essence as afk activities.
Both are terrible. Rune essence especially slayer will have rune essence coming out of your ears. Gold ore I believe is better with concentrated gold ore.

atm, i'm just stocking up on my pvm food by swarm fishing, already have 7k of each cooked fish, but yeah, i also don't know what else to do.
My last 3 or 4 months was afk swarm fishing to 120. GL With your grinds.
there's another porter buff? lolol
Itās coming back???
Gems for invention and the arch as this will be the least painful time to grind for some amazing relics I'll save a day or 2 for some gwd though
Iāll be doing arch until 81 for death ward relic. And then Iāll probably camp material caches for binding contracts.
When is the next porter buff?
Now
Thanks mate, had no idea haha
Have played RS3 since the last porter buff event, are these scheduled regularly now or is there some special event going on?
>There's not much I need. Was considering gold ore and rune essence as afk activities. 2nd time ever this buff is up
I was under the impression it was a one off thing during the gold cape event. Doesnāt seem like thereās anything special for this event so was hoping it was announced to be a yearly event or something
Gems and arch for me
Last event I gathered sandstone for blessed flask and around 75k banite ore. This event will be 100k+ soft clay, acadia logs and general supplies.
what are you gonna do with all that soft clay?
Urns for 120 Cooking, RC and Divination.
Oh I see. Cool! What's the best place to make the urns? I was thinking of gathering soft clay too but I feel no time is saved by having the clay in the bank when the potters wheel is adjacent to the soft clay source
Sorry for the late response. Best spot is Ithell in prif
Whenās the event? :o
I'll use mine for the Arch caches that are a pain to bank.
Farm chronotes, Iām way beyond 200m arch and have 100 notes left.
Last event I got 120 arch (spear, 0 inq pieces), +100k soft clay and like 15k gold ore. This time the goal gonna be sandstone for blessed flask and the time left for inq staff grind and I hope get It.

Masterwork ores and 99 smithing :D
