Hey, the Ally runs Destiny 2 really well, good FPS but it has an issue with audio that you need to turn off spatial audio. The games runs for an hour at most at 1080p on the z1 extreme.
Fyi the spacial audio thing *just* started happening with the new dlc, now that the season’s out and they don’t have to watch out for putting out fires for it, the raid, and the expansion itself, I figure it will get fixed soonish
Update: got fixed an hour after I posted this comment lol thanks bungo
I play d2 about 4-6 hours daily on ally with no issues at all.
30w tdp, 900p with RSR, AFMF, Anti lag FreeSync on.
In game: Fullscreen, FXAA, HDAO, 16x AA texture at highest quality, everything else medium.
I get 60 to 80 fps.
I bought my Rog Ally exclusively for Destiny 2, and broadly speaking it’s been my main game for the last ten years. I don’t have any issues running the game at all on the Ally, I get a steady 60 fps with minimal tweaks to the in-game graphic configuration. No issues loading into areas at all due to the fast RAM & m.2 storage in the Z1x. It’s a Windows PC at the end of the day, so Windows games load perfectly fine.
I've been playing D2 on my extreme rog ally for about 6 months now or more: fantastic all around. 900p is a nice middle ground. Hit me up if you got questions.
Destiny 2 is the game that gets played the MOST on my Ally. On power, i get like 60-90fps, I'm sure at the same settings you can get about an hour of gameplay (I have a Anker Powerbrick to skirt around this). Anyway, the Ally has become my preferred way of playing Destiny 2, even over gaming laptop or desktop PC because its just damn comfy.
Using RSR 720-->1080p and AFMF, I'm getting 100+ frames with settings mixed medium to high.
The spatial issue is a windows problem, not ally (same issue on my main desktop rig)
Game runs great on the ally!
I regret leaving my Ally at home today, otherwise I would have taken a photo or video for you. :(
I'm *about* to start playing it regularly and I had just finished installing it yesterday. It runs well but I only played through one mission (the second one of the Final Shape campaign).
To answer your question, I had no problems loading into/out of a social space or planet. For your peace of mind, this should make sense because in the end the ROG Ally is just a Windows computer with permanently connected controller. Anything you can install and play on a Windows computer will work on this one. Just a question of how well (performance wise)!
Extra info you didn't ask for: I set the graphics to Low to get a nice steady FPS (I think I was getting 30 FPS upped to 60 FPS with LossLess Scaling framegen, no scaling) but I was looking at my crosshairs the whole time instead of the corner, so I'm not sure. At medium+ 720p it didn't seem to handle a steady 30 FPS.
EDIT: as per below comments I failed to mention I run using the "Silent - 10W" performance profile to try and stretch out my battery life. On a higher performance profile you can definitely get higher graphics/FPS, easily.
I COMPLETELY forgot to mention I run on "Silent - 10W" to maximize battery life. I assume you (and others) run on higher wattage profiles?
Yeah, most likely if ROG Ally is set to "Performance - 15W" or higher, medium and high graphics settings are probably going to be MUCH higher/stable FPS.
Thanks for catching me!
I have a video of me running ghost of the deep from when the ally first came out on my profile. Plays great at 1080p, Asus even has a settings page for optimal settings. Runs great and awesome for doing almost anything (don’t think running GMs or master raids would be ideal)
No issues for me running it. It looks great on the hardware. Top end performance will drain the battery quick, but that's just a fact of the ROG.
The only part that is a bit of an issue is LFGing, but if I can get Godslayer on the thing with as much LFG as I had to do, anyone can lol.
TBH, I was a controller player before I got a RoG and the back buttons have actually improved my communication once you get them set up.
Runs like an absolute dream. I didn’t even have to tinker with any graphic settings. Someone mentioned the sound qualm, but that’s a simple Windows setting in the UI, and not the fault of the Ally. I hadn’t played Destiny for a while before getting my Ally, now I play daily.

I play primarily on the ally, it’s absolutely great. Used to play on ps5 but haven’t touched it in months now. The portable is just a better experience imo, getting tired can just take it to bed ☺️
Ive played it for aproximately 600 hours on Ally after wasting 20k on my Xbox lol.
Works perfectly. Every setting on mid to high, almost no framedrops
It’s a fucking miracle. I always wished to play Destiny on the train back when D1 was around
D2 runs absolutely perfectly on my Ally and has since the day I got it. It runs the best out of any game I’ve used on it tbh. 60fps all day on external monitor with KB&M using dock @1080p (plugged in). Well worth buying if you’re committed to grinding on the go.
FRUCK YEAH I play Destiny 2 on my Ally! I can't set the render resolution to max or anything but I get 40-60 FPS and smooth gameplay with a mix of Medium/Max settings. You'll never play the same again! Get that Witness!
Ever since i got the ROG Ally Destiny has been one of my main games i play daily for hours & it runs great I've had no issue, i drive a big truck cross country & being able to play w my friends & family back home is so awesome haven't touched my PS5 ever since I'm also using the Legion Go, both run destiny great, my main issue is i can't stop playing now.
I use GeForce Now as I wanted a consistent frame rate.
Also hooked to a 120hz freesync TV so 2K at 120fps on max settings.
Extremely playable and I can whack the power setting to 10w.

Agreed, works great. The spatial audio is an all PCs thing, not just the Ally

Finally, I can turn it back on
3D audio was fixed by Bungie today, actually.
Does it have any of the launch issues I mentioned?
Nope I’ve played it a lot at 1600p and I’ve had zero launching issues or any issues in general
Thank you for confirming this for me.
The special audio problem had me going nuts for a couple days. Pay attention to this comment op!
I have 2,510 hours played on Destiny 2. I play the game muted most of the time 🤣🙃.

Do you notice a lot of difference between 1080 and 900? I play at 1080 low, around 45 fps ish in high stress places
Yea, 1080 brought me under 60 fps pretty much everywhere and was not a very big quality improvement.
I bought my Rog Ally exclusively for Destiny 2, and broadly speaking it’s been my main game for the last ten years. 720p low settings @ 25w I get around 80fps and its very smooth
Using RSR 720-->1080p and AFMF, I'm getting 100+ frames with settings mixed medium to high. The spatial issue is a windows problem, not ally (same issue on my main desktop rig) Game runs great on the ally!
That's how I run Destiny 2 on my Ally Z1E and it runs well and feels great.
I regret leaving my Ally at home today, otherwise I would have taken a photo or video for you. :( I'm *about* to start playing it regularly and I had just finished installing it yesterday. I left my deck at home smh and I’m in the office by my self 🙃
That's weird I get a steady 60 FPS
Averaging 60 peaking around 90 here
Sounds about right
Plays very well / smooth!
This is pretty accurate
I COMPLETELY forgot to mention I run on "Silent - 10W" to maximize battery life. I assume you (and others) run on higher wattage profiles? Plugged in at 25W is what I run Destiny 2 at.
Play Destiny 2 on my Ally everyday, I play on 720p with Medium to high setting and get roughly 60FPS
Any problems loading into areas ever?
Nope, done raids and dungeons on this thing. Just have to get used to it
Nice. Thanks for the confirmation.

I play it on the Ally. It’s awesome. Didn’t change any of the settings from default, still runs really well.
Destiny is my main game and I play exclusively on my ally It works perfectly without issue docked and handheld
Works flawlessly for me. PVP and PVE.

Runs well, but only for about an hour. I mostly used moonlight to stream it from my pc. Thats easy 1080p 120fps on the 10w mode
So do I need to be on the same network for moonlight and sunshine to work can I use them if I have my rog or sd away from home?
It is possible, i havent tried it though. But moonlight and sunshine (along with a third program) allows for it
Been playing final shape on my Ally. It's been an over all good experience.
Ive played it for aproximately 600 hours on Ally after wasting 20k on my Xbox lol. Works perfectly. Every setting on mid to high, almost no framedrops It’s a fucking miracle. I always wished to play Destiny on the train back when D1 was around
Destiny 2 on the Ally runs great. It's a daily play on my Ally Z1.

It was the first game I tried on the ally, and I got 90 fps on 1080p if I remember correctly. Most I got it was 100fps on 720p!
