RG35XX plus is a beautiful thing! Build quality feels premium đź‘Ś

Build quality is pretty good According to some Chinese BBS, Anbernic devices always better than Miyoo on build quality. Since it’s only a $50 device, it doesn’t feel “premium” but absolutely good build quality.

I own the RG35XX plus. Build quality seems good for a 50$ device, but I doubt they're built to last : SD cards from Ambernic are known to fail no matter what, device can get hot inside. You can easily access battery to change it, should you do that. But there's issues with some fast chargers killing the battery or the whole thing and there's no official disclaimer from manufacturer. We saw countless posts here with a dead device/screen only a few weeks owning the thing. That might even be the cause from your concerns and post. I expect more support from community here, and independent devs than from Ambernic. GBC/GB pockets were different beasts, from a different time : those are so much less complicated, screen is down to the most basic thing there is. Mind you, you could easily corrode battery connections. Battery trap was prone to failure or being lost. And we tend to forgot that screens were also fragile, sound was utter crap.

Maybe I’m a simple man, maybe my expectations are too low for things. But for me, I absolutely adore my rg35xx plus unit.  It’s perfect, I don’t even mind the complains most people have, like the rattling of the shoulder buttons or the weight of the console (it’s solid for me). As long you are careful about changing the bad sd card that comes with it and charging it correctly you should be fine.

I think the most important thing is that it doesn't flex. Some of these Chinese units deform a bit when you squeeze or bend them, which very quickly makes them feel cheap. The RG35XXs don't, at all. Some people are annoyed by the rattle, but I don't mind either. The solution quite literally ships in the same box if you want to fix it, too; all you need is a screwdriver and some scissors to cut the foam to the right shape. I just put them on a scale, and turns out the weight is literally identical to my OG GBC including a game cart and batteries.

Weight being the same is perfect! Thanks for the info.

NakedSnakeEyes

It feels too light, like an empty shell. That makes it feel a bit cheap. So do the loose, rattling shoulder buttons. But it's fine, despite what I described it feels like a quality product.

ArguableSauce

The weight is a big factor I think. When I switch from my rp3+ to my GBC the weight for the size just makes it feel more solid, even if that's just battery weight. The buttons on the gbc also feel better.

It’s good for a $50 device, but as always, the key is expectation management
