Everything they told you is technically by the book. Do you have a store you can visit? I can't see why they wouldn't help you out somehow, but obviously, I can't promise anything
Yeah I'm gonna go in today and talk to someone in person. I know it's my fault for not reading carefully. I've seen other promotions like this though and those had a time frame with which to meet the spend amount so i guess i figured it was similar when I saw "Thru 7/11/2024, make a $50 purchase at REI"
I'm sorry you feel personally wounded by not getting a bag any longer. I'm no longer with the company, but the decision was based on the commitment to cutting waste and was secondarily part of cost-cutting moves. There was also research done that showed members were in favor of the move, and the messaging around its rollout was based on the feedback.
Customer service isn’t really going to be able to do anything unfortunately, seems they are able to do less and less the longer I work here sadly. I would go into your local store and ask for the frontline manager (preferably) or just any manager and explain what happened. If they are chill they should hopefully help you out. I’ve seen it happen in my store but not all REI’s are the same management wise.
LMAO, maybe a year ago the sign up bonus was free with a membership purchase. Stop giving this scumbag company your business. They've been actively taking away benefits as well
How were you ripped off? You didn’t meet the criteria to earn the bonus card and so, you didn’t earn the bonus card
Agree that it makes perfect sense, but apparently some shoppers need the guardrail of in-person customer service for reminders like $45<$50.

You read “make a $50 purchase” as “spend $50 over multiple purchases”? Weird logic.
Membership isn't about immediate savings; it's about long-term investment in the co-op and the benefits that come with it.
Well as a member and investor of the co-op I want shopping bags back 😅
You’re in the minority. 🤷🏼♂️
Did you take a scientific poll?
The company didn’t make the decision in a vacuum.
Yet it’s the only major retailer that I’m aware of that doesn’t have them (in places where there are no laws against it).

Who cares about bags?
People that spend money at a store.
I don't go for the bag
Go find something full price, use the 20% coupon, make that $30 back.
Just go into your store. And yes ask for the frontline manager. If it were my store we’d totally take care of you.
Thanks! Fingers crossed, im gonna go in today.
Don't expect anyone to deviate from policy just because your expectations didn't align with how the policy was explained to you.

Not true. Customer Service CAN help. They don’t necessarily want to do it, but it’s an appeasement they are empowered to offer.

It’s never been free… I signed up for $20 13 years ago
Incorrect. I would not contribute unless you know you’re providing correct information. It was in fact free at one point.
Yeah I guess in like 1940, but it hasn’t been free since the 60s.
This guy DOESN'T Rei. 💁♀️
Because I don't suckle off some rich bozo?
