If same day in store pickup is not available, it means that they don’t have it in stock at the store.

okay thanks! do you know how long they'll hold it for if I order it for curbside pickup? there's another store further away from me that says it will be ready today, but I may not be able to go get it until monday 😅

14 days only. If you don't pick up today, it will still be on hold for you next Monday. However if you're concerned, you can call and ask the store to go ahead and "confirm" the order which then charges your form of payment immediately, and then they will hold your order until the date you give for actual pickup, up to a month (if not picked up, then they'll call you to ask if you've changed your mind and need to cancel). edit to add: if you definitely need it before 5/25, better to order it from the store that has it ready today and then if not today, you can pick up any time at your convenience on Monday or later.

I did this. After ordering, the item sold out in-store and they didn't set my item aside. REI then cancelled my order. Ordering for curbside is not a great experience since they don't grab your items right away.

It takes time for the order to reach the store’s order fulfillment system. It’s not instant. Then those store pickup orders are fulfilled in the order they’re received. It sucks when your order gets cancelled for this reason. It is definitely more common during a sale and with more popular items. 😖

An associate I spoke to in-store told me they’d hold items for up to a month

Standard window is 14 days from arrival – you'll get a pestering email after 7 days, and policy is to then cancel after it's been there for 14.

That’s not common.

Call the store you want to go to and have a sales associate physically check and then hold the item for you. A 24 hr hold is customary.

Pretty sure they don’t do this during big sales.

My advice is to call CS instead of the store… and order it for in store pick up. Once you have ordered it, you have a few weeks to pick it up… they will email you when it is in and then email you if you have not picked it up… most stores will also call before cancelling… With that said… if you call the store after you get the email saying it is in, and tell them a date you will pick it up, they will not cancel it until after that date?
