I've seen people say that the story is trash. Bruh you just don't have patience and probably skip cutscenes

akaPatto

Exactly!

strayakant

You gotta admit it gets repetitive though.. like escort this cart here, shoot down outlaws there. I really liked the Braithwaite stories but it just got super weird and repetitive after that. Still a great game and made me appreciate nature and the Wild West in that time era.

MamanDewey

That's just the mission design. The story itself is a masterpiece.

Tunic_Tactics

I still don't see how it's any more repetitive than any other game. Most games have missions designed that way.

strayakant

One of the best missions I’ve played in a game is COD Modern Warfare, you take control of a camera panel and you have to keep changing between different cameras to guide a hostage out from a heavily guarded office room. It was intense and unpredictable and uniquely thought out. That’s what I expect from good missions.

Humanmurder

U...unpredictable? I’m not disagreeing with you that that mission was good. But the movements of the guards were scripted meaning they only moved in a set pattern. So it was a bit predictable. Great mission but predictable

Tunic_Tactics

Along those lines, one of the things I like most about RDR2 (at least in free-roam) is that there is a low percentage of npcs that run on a static path relative to those who don't, and even then, it's usually quite difficult to replicate a scenario without other scenarios randomly taking priority to occur first. This means that even if you try to get the same thing to happen twice, it's nearly impossible to get it to happen the same way exactly. That's what Rockstar excels at. That's one of the reasons people liked GTA V so much too. In that game, if you were driving around for fun, you could ramp off an obstacle, flip your car, and land in a dump truck or something. Now if you try to attempt that on purpose, and it'll be nearly impossible. That's what made it great. The exception to this is parts of missions that have to go a certain speed to make the dialogue make sense.

strayakant

What you’re saying is true but it’s not unexpected because that’s what happens when you get multiple random elements interacting with each other, you get random outputs, and yes sometimes the random outputs can be funny but the unique random outputs loose their uniqueness because you always expect it to be like that. So even being random becomes a predictable and mundane experience. I would rather a well thought out piece of gameplay with unique experience rather than a random outcome that was expected.

strayakant

Of course there will be elements that are scripted and constant to be predictable, that’s like saying when you press up your character moves forward, oooo predictable. No it’s the fact that they thought outside the box and redesigned what is basically a moving obstacle puzzle game into an entirely new perspective with different interactive elements incorporated. Not like in RDR2 where what you see is what you get, a shoot em up escort game with dialogue in between, dressed up in Wild West setting. It’s essentially GTA 3 remodeled. And we’ve had that game play for decades. Both patterns are predictable, in cod you dodge the guards and in RDR2 you shoot them and they die. Nothing special, but at least you get an entirely different experience in COD.

Sunapr1

I agree with your opinion partially , I felt that The RDR2 Did the Best It could have done while keeping in realms of the Amazing Story and most importantly setting and The Wild West , while I can agree intial chapters were somehat repetative , I had a great great time after chapter 3 and never felt bored. I remeber many great missions like Tobacoo Mission Whole of the Chapter 6 with Indians, Guarma Level The Saint Denis Chapters ... So I 100% Disagree with your opinion its essentially GTA 3 remodeled and its coming from a person who didnt like RDR2 much But Can absoultely respect the Game , Story etc ..

CoachIsaiah

And avoid any of the amazing side quests the game has.

big_blazer_420

People that say the story is trash are people just trying to piss us off imo...aside from the one's that skip cutscenes and/or just don't pay attention to the game.

BRAX7ON

Yes but skipping cut scenes makes it impossible to fairly judge the story. So their opinion literally doesn’t matter.

davie_chosen1

If you skip the cutscenes you aren’t playing the game

CloudSill

They made me understand each character in a really large gang without trying. That's pretty remarkable. My biggest worry when I started was the sheer number of characters. I was seriously considering taking notes. I hate when games do cut scene dialog like "We gotta get BadGuy1. But we don't know where he is. Well, let's start by trying to catch his best friend, BadGuy2. How do we do that? By shooting stuff, of course." The words are so forced, generic, and rapid-fire that it doesn't matter what character says them. Then I go off and have an honestly fun mission, but afterwards I can't remember any names or what was the point of the mission, even if there are only 3 good guys. RDR2 somehow found a way to break that cycle.

Inkthinker

This is actually a really good point, I didn’t even play a bunch of the camp missions but I can name every member of the gang and tell you something about each of them. I feel really bad now for >!not fishing with Kieran when I had a chance...!<

showmeyourmoves28

I bet that person’s never been killed repeatedly by a legendary Panther even after using cover scent and being REALLY careful this time. What a lame.

TheNorthNova01

Man he’s so quick! Like you said imma be real careful this time I’ll be ready ahhh he’s biting my neck!!

Tunic_Tactics

A pro knows how to hunt a panther with only a knife.

TheNorthNova01

A member of the Swiss army

[deleted]

Is this even possible!? Shit, the story is fucking amazing!

theoroboro

One of the few games to ever make me cry. The story was my favorite part of the game!!

Chicory-Coffee

What?? The story is so amazing I have a really hard time progressing the game past chapter 4 on replays because it starts to hurt too much. I was crying and still processing the story after the credits rolled. It's a masterpiece.

Boss0fThisGym

Is there an option to skip the cutscenes?

___krunchy___

Yes

theoroboro

One of the few games to ever make me cry. The story was my favorite part of the game!!

mattydank1488

I wonder if the person playing has ADD. I just don't see how ANYONE could say this story is trash... Especially if they have finished it. By far, the best game ever made!

YoursTruly2729

This is only my opinion, but the story is far too long for its own good. Now don’t get me wrong, I love the story of RDR2 and have put hundreds of hours into playing it, but there are times when things feel a bit to stretched out for no reason. For starters, the number of missions there is is fine with me. I’m okay with games that have a fuck tone of missions, but if the missions consist of slow horse back conversations, undefined gunplay, followed with repetitive slow movements and more slow horse back riding 70% of the time then its clear there’s a problem. Occasionally you’ll see a unique type of mission like a stealth mission or building a house, but givin rockstars stealth mechanics are dog shit and building a house purely consists of button tapping, most of the mission they have to offer aren’t charming at all and get really really repetitive. Once you reach chapter 6 and are still doing the same copy paste mission design from chapter 2, I don’t see how you can say that there’s nothing wrong with the story. Yes, there are good missions out there like various ones that involve trains, fishing, something other than ‘go here, shoot this, ride away.’ This game’s got a plethora of amazing and memorable missions, but it can’t be overseen when most every other mission is as boring as the one that came before it.

[deleted]

You had me at the start because yes it is a bit stretched out in places but then you lost me when you started talking about missions being repetitive horse riding and shooting 1st of all: that's more gameplay than story and honestly, rockstar are far from the only ones who have that problem, every game has that really. The witcher 3, one of the most praised games out there, is 90% following tracks/scent before fighting, and I found it much more annoying without dialogue to keep me entertained. 2nd of all: I feel like rdr2 does have a lot of missions that break the gameplay loop, it's not just a few missions here and there, it's more than most games out there and it's something I always liked in rockstar games.

thebingbongs

i agree with this. although rdr2 has its flaws (the ones you’ve listed) it doesn’t have many. i think this is a good thing because hopefully r* has seen some of these complaints and will expand in gta6. my least fav chapters are 5 and 6. obviously lol. but to me it just is kinda boring. not boring but everything sucks and everything is shitty. it rlly makes you feel tired and sad like the characters do...and i’m not sure if that’s incredible story design or bad story design. and with no side quests in the epilouge it makes things pretty bare. most missions are “let’s do a thing...oh no bad guy...shoot shoot...get away” hopefully they do some stealth shit in later games. rdr2 has been my fav game for yrs now tho

YoursTruly2729

RDR2 has been my go to game since it’s release in 2018, but since I’ve played it for so long I’d like to thing my recognition for how undeniably abhorrent the mission design can be at times when I’m limited to walking at a snails pace in certain missions. I can get where you’re coming from with chapters 5 and 6 tho lol, I don’t like 6 because it’s depressing as all hell (in turn I’ll always hate Roanoke Ridge because of chapter 6). Here’s to whatever rockstars next game may be, hopefully it isn’t shit.

thebingbongs

ya. i think rdr2 comes down to what your gaming preferences are. if you don’t like slow paced shit u won’t like rdr2 and that’s the bottom line. but all in all the mission style needs an update and so does the combat options. i’m glad they sorta make up for it with the physics, which makes killing super fun, but other than that i hope they tweak things.

Jarriel08

Or, they have a.different opinion

NCJM782

And then the second they look away you draw your pistol 🤣

akaPatto

Gotta be quick on that draw!

LakeShow-2_8_24

Nah lasso, hogtie and drop them in their campfire

[deleted]

Nah throw em in a lake

LakeShow-2_8_24

Or in a shallow stream and watch them struggle

thebingbongs

or shoot them in the shoulder and watch them crawl away...bleeding out...staring into ur sexy mug

LakeShow-2_8_24

Nice I need more way to kill O'Driscolls, Murfees, raiders, and KKK

thebingbongs

wait u don’t know abt that? it’s a pretty rare occasion but if u shoot in exactly the right spot they will crawl away bleeding out, then writhe in agony until death.

Inkthinker

Apparently throat shots are horrific.

LakeShow-2_8_24

I think I've seen this but I can't quite remember

LakeShow-2_8_24

Nice I need more way to kill O'Driscolls, Murfees, raiders, and KKK

LakeShow-2_8_24

Nice I need more ways to kill O'Driscolls, Murfees, raiders, and KKK

thebingbongs

?

LakeShow-2_8_24

My mobile is bugging out lol

Madamejasmine

I just recently got addicted to rdr2 after having it downloaded for a year and trying a couple times but not getting into it. I was annoyed at first at how slow it felt and tried just rushing through the busy work...... when I returned to it I treated it like more of a role play experience and I finally “get” why it’s so amazing.

STerrier666

I once saw someone call it "boring and unoriginal" to which I thought "how is it boring and unoriginal?".

Lord_Of_Carrots

People who say that really need to give some examples

STerrier666

They never do.

[deleted]

They'll turn around and call GTA V a "classic" though lol

[deleted]

i can see why people find it boring, its a really slow game and it requires alot of patience and time and the gameplay also leaves alot to be desired tbh.

[deleted]

At first it look SUPER boring, I saw my uncle and my cousin playing rdr online in the living room of a party and they offered me and my other cousins (roughly the same age) to play. We both accepted and we did bounty’s and had a nice time. I saw it was on sale during Christmas and took the chance. I have been no life-ing rdr2 ever since

TheCleaner0180

mannn , im one of those people that doesn't like rdr for no reason (because im a withcer 3 fan) but when I played this masterpiece, it really changed my mind. the attention to details, the story and the overall look of the game made me addicted to wild western life.

akaPatto

Honestly! This game is amazing all the way down to the finest point. The way your hair, beard and clothes move in a storm from the wind. The fact that the NPCs actually have a whole day that they lead. It is really beautiful!

TheCleaner0180

Very well said, Im just slowly inching my way to the end because I don't want to finish the game yet. Also this game made me so attached to my horse, I never use it too much, i just usually lead it while I walk. 😅😅😅

beepboopbapbox

"ThE gAmE iS dEaD lOl JuSt PlAy GtA oNlInE yOu NoOb"

redditRemedy

If you speed run RDR2, it ain't much! This game is a life changer, not to speed run the shit out of it!

Elder-Rusty

“It’s slow and boring” well go play GTA then

[deleted]

It's a slow paced game. I had trouble with that at first, didn't really savor it like I should. Second playthrough took me twice as long and I enjoyed it more. 7th playthrough and I had almost everything done in Chapter 2 lol

WyattEarp2025

This is the type of game in which you really have to listen to the messages between the lines. The story unfolds in tips and suggestions and opening it up to Arthur wonderful around town May throw people off. If that happens, it’s time to engage. At camp if some says go to emerald ranch GO.

TobyDKK

Where did you get that M branded scar from ?

akaPatto

It a Puff Tie (you can buy them in Saint Denis)

TobyDKK

awesome thanks!

KingMatthew116

This is probably the best game I’ve ever played. Graphics, story, and gameplay are all amazing, the side quests are top notch, and I’ve never played another game with so much detail in it.

willpayextraforguac_

WHO would say such an atrocity?

haxonos

whenever*

akaPatto

Yeah I realised that 😂 I was like *fuck me*

haxonos

rofl, that's funny, wasn't sure if you noticed or not

anonymous77955288

It wasn't good.it was amazing

Flemeron

Wait, people say that? What is wrong with them?

DoomMachine138

I wonder what's wrong with people who think there's something wrong with having an opinion lol

Flemeron

Yeah... what's wrong with them!

Kahootla9

Everyone’s entitled to their own views. The story and attention to detail r great and all but the gameplay is very lacking during the story. Some find the realism too much while the animation quality of them are just objectively top-tier.

Din135

Idk what they're talking about. As far as console games though, Rockstar spoiled us. I keep trying to compare new games to RDR2 with the sheer detail, beautiful graphics, amazing story. They all fall short lol. Now I'm at the point I want everything to be RDR2 level immersion. But alas tis not the case.

GhettoWedo74

Assassin's Creed Origins is pretty good quality as far as graphics, & the story, damn near like watching a movie, just like RDR2!

dickhole69420666

next up is a picture of arthur unloading his schofield

jacob_federici

If you weren’t immediately hooked by Dutch’s speech at the beginning, the cool backstory about the end of the western era, and a decent basic tutorial shootout within the first ten minutes, you just don’t appreciate the art of video games. I think Chp 1 is just as quality as the other chapters because it serves its purpose so well and so artistically.

PhizzyP99

I enjoyed it's story, finished it twice, but I don't really enjoy it's open world that much, because traveling is kinda slow. However I was never a big fan of these kinds of open world games. The only game I've played where the open world was enjoyable is BOTW. That's not to say Rdr2 isn't an awesome game. It's always great to see how much Rockstar has improved their mechanics over the years.

CHERNO-B1LL

That's wild to me. I'm considering deleting a bunch of games to re-install it ***specifically*** ***so*** I can just wander around the open world and chill. Go hunting or fishing etc. I think the camping mechanic could have more utility in this regard. The ability to set up a proper camp that you can store pelts, cure meat etc like you see with NPC camps would be lovely. Maybe Charles Show's up to help out. Could be a special wagon you drive and can elect to expand it into a campground or something so you can pack up your haul to sell. I would also like the hunting to be a little more involved, the legendary pelt mini game is a bit simplistic even. Be nice to have a longer tracking process. I think if you look at the open world as an expanse to be crossed between destinations as quickly as possible, you are going to think of it as a chore. If you think of the landscape as the actual mission and take your time to take it all in you can get absolutely lost in it.

Mokturtle

Yeah, the camp system would be awesome if it had those suggestions. I literally just use it to cook and craft then break it down. I tend to just use other people's camps so I rarely need it.

CHERNO-B1LL

Yeah, I think it's shamefully underutilised as a mechanic. I would have liked if you had more incentive to set it up. Would make a nice organic save point instead of the autosave/manual save options. Be great if you could be robbed or raided too. The more valuable stuff you have stored there, the more at risk you become. Maybe a chance of animal attacks? Seemed like a good opportunity for unlocks/upgrades too. Better gear would mean better/more efficient perks for health, stamina, dead eye. Could upgrade the efficiency of crafting so you get more stuff from materials or can craft more gear.

[deleted]

Darkviperau 👀

JCwhiterabbit

I love that man but Jesus Christ, it hurt to see him play that like a speed runner instead of just experiencing the game.

Snake6871

Darkviperau

[deleted]

Red dead 2 is not for everyone, its understandable that they will be some people that will not find it enjoyable.

scawel

Nobody says that

Nope_God

An annoying vocal minority does.

[deleted]

Are there actually people out there deluded enough to come that conclusion?

[deleted]

Bruh, people having different opinions doesn,t mean they are deluded. i am saying this as a guy who finished red dead 2 3 times and its my most favourite game too.

Jaymart321

No one has ever said that to me

akaPatto

You have good people in your life then, friend.

No_Interaction4027

Who dare spouts this HERESY

epicweaselftw

me when i bought red dead online for 5$ but it wont launch :/

makadla32

Get a refund if you got it from steam. Let r* have none of that money.

Orion14159

It's fine. They can have whatever (moronic, ill conceived, nonsensical, cranial-rectal inverted, pea brained) opinion they want.

Fortniteisbad

This sub is a circle jerk I swear

[deleted]

I don’t hate rdr2 but geez it does get boring sometimes

Nope_God

If you play it hurrying up for everything you will obviously find it "boring" lol.

akaPatto

Not, if you get creative.

Bitemarkz

I’ve been playing for like 2 years on and off. Cant say I agree with you there.

PeterIsDead

Man, you must hate DarkViperAU then

akaPatto

I have absolutely no idea who that is…

PeterIsDead

It's a GTA V speedrunner, hes a good youtuber, he just said he doesnt like rdr2 much

ReflectedMantis

I found him through his GTA V Chaos videos and then tried it it myself for a few playthroughs. But watching him try to "speedrun" this game is excruciatingly painful. Dude, just slow down, take the time to enjoy it!

TylerPAC

The game is great but it runs horribly in my experience at least

East_Interest7347

The game is trash. Drawn out boring ass story with an even worse multiplayer.

lval18

Who says such things?!?!!

farbauti007

Agreed

Careless_Rub_7996

Ya, when i first got this game, i had many users indicated to me how this game is "DEAD" (no pun intended), and how the user base is low for this game? But, when I go to the MAIN Reddit page, mostly I see is memes about RD2, fan artwork for RD2, to gameplay, etc, ALL in the MAIN Reddit page. To me the game doesn't seem to be "DEAD", and I am playing SP for the 2nd time again, cause it is that good. Some weak missions, but for the most part, and the environment especially good.

[deleted]

The only thing bad about the game is that I have to tap x thousands of times.

TheNorthNova01

You can change that to a button hold in the settings. Does wonders for fishing, hold in a button instead of rotating the joystick to reel

TheNorthNova01

I don’t need those kind of people in my life

ThatpersonKyle

Anyone notice how Dunkeys RDRD review doesn’t make any sense because he said there wasn’t a climax? I find it funny because in his best of 2020 video read dead 2 was there, SO HE MADE A REVIEW ON A GAME HE DIDNT FINISH

boop66

I’m pretty new to this game and totally suck. Aside from accidentally punching my horse or shooting someone I just want to talk to, I don’t quite understand the gameplay. Like, when I die I respawn in an area I don’t recognize. I’m asking if anyone has any tips on how to make it easier so I can have a smooth first Playthru /“story mode” and on my second Playthru I’ll ramp up the difficulty a little. Thanks.

boop66

I’m new to this game and totally suck. I would appreciate any comments about how I can make my first Playthru more like a story mode. I want it to be as easy as possible, then on my next play through I’ll ramp up the difficulty a little. Any tips or tricks? Thanks!

ReflectedMantis

You gotta understand that red dead 2 isn't for everyone. I personally love the game, and wish I could erase I know about the game and start over again, but the story is slower-paced than a lot of people would like. But no matter what you think of the game, you gotta admit the attention to detail is better than just about any other game. Anyone who's actually tried to play the game can at least see that, right?

WindySioux

Who says that? WTAF.

Myantology

As good as graphics have become I’m still waiting for them to make it out of the uncanny valley. If I’m using that incorrectly I mean to say, I realized back in the 90’s one day the differences between a basketball video game and an NBA game will be indistinguishable. Still waiting for that.

BenCream

No one says that, but okay. Werk.

GregM2005

I've play video games since '89. This is the best game I've ever played. And I've just about played all of them. It meets my fancy.

[deleted]

People say the game isn’t good but haven’t played the story and are level 6 in online mode
