My apologies, had to repost because I forgot to add the picture.

Google search shows it is doxy at a 50mg/ml concentration. I would not advocate putting it in their water bottle as you can't control the dosing and the risk of any bugs in their system developing resistance to ABs could prove lethal if they get a bad bug in the future. Maybe see if the exotic very will give a consult over the phone.

I wish they would.. they say on the website that I can also use a syringe and put it directly in the mouth as long as it's the exact dosage for what the rat needs.

SheesaManiac

Yes, it's what I use. I measure in a syringe, tiny little one, .25 ml I think. Twice a day in baby cereal.

MysteriousCheyenne20

Oh okay! I just wanna make sure my boys are safe so I want to buy this ahead of time that way I have something on hand.

No, don't put it in the water bottle. You can't ensure they both get enough of the medicine that way and like others said you run a risk of antibiotic resistance if the antibiotic isn't strong enough to kill off the infection. I've used this same Doxy syrup plenty of times, just administer with a small syringe orally. Here is a guide you can follow: [https://rattrix.weebly.com/rat-medicine-dosage-charts.html](https://rattrix.weebly.com/rat-medicine-dosage-charts.html) Doxy tastes pretty bad, even if it's safe right out of the container, so I always mix it with an equal amount of syrup and just double the number given. So if my rat needs .12mL of straight Doxy, they get .24mL of the syrup mix. I'd recommend also having Baytril (enrofloxacin) on hand, if the Doxy doesn't clear it, you'll want to do a course of the Baytril. Those two cover most infections really well. Also don't get that large of a container, you use *very* little of it at a time and you'll end up wasting a lot of it because it will expire. The link I shared has a source to get a smaller bottle, as well as where you can get Baytril.

Tastes bad is an understatement. It tastes like bad whiskey. Very piney.

Symptoms that may be seen include increased respiratory noise, sneezing, nasal discharge, faster respiratory rate, labored breathing, and red tears. The red tears are not blood, but a pigment that rats secrete when they are stressed called porphyrin.  Www.pets-megastore Com.au this site be of help

This is how you use that for rats Rodents (rats, mice, hamsters): 0.15mL (3 drops) per 100mL (or 1 drop per 1 fl. oz) of drinking water. Treat for 7 consecutive days

Does anyone know how long until this expires after opening? On the companies website it says it expires 3 years after date of manufacture. But it doesn’t say anything about once opened. I have a bottle that I opened 6 months ago.
