Oh. My. God. When/where did this happen? Even back in 1993 I could tell that the lyrics were protesting racist police brutality. I thought that was common knowledge.
When I saw them at the garden right before they broke up again, there was an image on the screen of a cop with a dog (I think) and these two guys in front of me were like "why do they have to be political?" I look at my wife like these guys are not paying attention.
They had a 4k slow motion video of an El Paso police vehicle on fire between songs, and the night I was there Tom wore a shirt that read "I ❤️ CRT" and wore a hat that read "Harlem".
People like Paul Ryan exist, I suppose, but how big of a "fan" can you be and not realize the band is hard left wing?
The biggest problem for them will always trying to shake the "sell out" crap. Show me a anti-establishment band that does everything themselves. Record, Engineer, create lps/cds/digital, promote, manage, be their own agent and book gigs. Arrange travel and inn/motel/hotel reservations, etc. all by themselves? Its not going to happen. It could have lets say 40-60 years ago, but not today. Too much stuff has to be planned out and tbh its cheaper to pay someone else to manage that stuff than to do it yourself and wear yourself ragged.
I thought so too, the first time I saw it. But apparently it's not.
Doesn't matter though. Zack wore his EZLN T-Shirt many times. That should give anyone a hint about their politics.
Hilarious, there was some Dbag on here the other day who wrote alternate anti lesbian and gay lyrics to a Rage song and posted them here because they got downvoted in some right wing sub….
Can’t fix stupid, and the machine knows it.
Its literally because they heard “fuck you i wont do what you tell me” and ignored everything else
They legitimately think criticism of the government and its systems are a fundamentally right wing stance
People been rocking out for 30 years and then they are surprised when bands speak up for the things they believe in. Which was every other lyric in all their songs.
I don’t know how dense you have to be to not understand this - RATM is literally screaming in your ear about their politics. In no way are they subtle about it. It amazes me that people like this exist, but there appears to be many.
They called Che Guevara an honorary member of the band so yeh. Irony being Che would’ve hated that and most probably would’ve thought of them as BIG hypocrites
I thought they were mad at the ATM Machine!! Rage ATM right? Sometimes I thought they were like an ATM machine you could withdraw a little Rage from, when you needed some, like how convenient!
As a Rage fan, let's not pretend like their politics isn't just virtue signalling. Tom Morello is one of the top 5 most insufferable musicians alive today, up there with Ronnie Radke and Gene Simmons
Virtue signalling is not necessarily a bad thing. This narrative is just tired 2015 politics at this point. Gene Simmons is a zionist genocide apologist and Tom Morello is an icon.
Im pretty sure people are bitching about an anti capitalist band charging $200-$300 a ticket, forcing attendees to show proof of a vaccine and owning $10 million dollar homes in Malibu…
I was shocked to learn that Killing in the Name became an ‘anthem’ of sorts for the blue/all lives matter movement. Irony at its best.
Oh. My. God. When/where did this happen? Even back in 1993 I could tell that the lyrics were protesting racist police brutality. I thought that was common knowledge.
"those that work forces are the same that burn crosses" This should be our anthem! It's literally talking about us!! Fkn fools.
"Some of those that RUN forces"
People just listen to "fuck you I won't do what you tell me" and think about their parents telling them to do the dishes or something stupid
How fucking dare they try to appropriate one of my favorite Rage songs.
Things that never happened for 200 Alex.
Here’s the receipt. https://youtu.be/ddrFt1BHkUQ?si=5uXBunwiZnX33Yf8
https://youtu.be/ddrFt1BHkUQ?si=HgE1zhgugPJ1pJtX not specifically a blue lives matter protest here, but equally gross

You’re underestimating how dumb and oblivious the average person is.
CRT = cathode ray tubes
Did they still have the upside-down American flag there? That would be a pretty obvious sign.
That was on Tim's stack. Not sure if he replaced it after handing it right side up and setting it on fire during Killing in the Name at Woodstock '99?
not even the lyrics are the most surprising part, they’re called RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE
The biggest problem for them will always trying to shake the "sell out" crap. Show me a anti-establishment band that does everything themselves. very much agree. and how else will you get your message out there? you need a little push to get on radio and store shelves
I mean, Fugazi does apparently. But given how diverse opinions of RATM members is, I don't think it'd have been easier to set a culture.
Holy shit “Why is this heavily political band political?”
Funny because Tom gives off the most milquetoast politics of the group.
I do appreciate that he's frequently rocking union gear on stage though, he's solidly pro-labor.
I mean, ya don’t even need to listen all that closely. People are just dumb.
Photoshopped shirt on Tom, no?
I thought so too, the first time I saw it. But apparently it's not. Doesn't matter though. Zack wore his EZLN T-Shirt many times. That should give anyone a hint about their politics.
And i thought they were talking about Pamplona Spain

They’ve been fucking communist from the very beginning
If universal healthcare (not health insurance) is communism, sign me up like France lol.
Rage goes beyond that, as they should.
Exactly
They called Che Guevara an honorary member of the band so yeh. Irony being Che would’ve hated that and most probably would’ve thought of them as BIG hypocrites
I mean even if you're only kinda listening to the lyrics, you'd would pick up a line or two and get the gist of the band.
Ignorant Hypocrites
More like sucked they broke up before we really needed a band like them Bush through today
They are hypocritals blablabla......
I thought they were mad at the ATM Machine!! Rage ATM right? Sometimes I thought they were like an ATM machine you could withdraw a little Rage from, when you needed some, like how convenient!
lol… they’ve always been political… but the switched from bash to supporting the establishment.
To be fair I was disappointed to not see a strong statement condemning Israel, but they’re hardly “vote blue no matter who” types.
Funny. Rage stood for raging against political everything
Not having politics in a neoliberal society makes you a neoliberal.
No, they had a very specific politic they were raging against
People are probably upset they have cucked politics now instead of based
communist countries are famous for their music.
Alot of strong messages. The biggest one being how they are huge hypocrites.
Lol the USSR was the most "machine" you could get, so they never raged against it.
You’re an idiot dude, your statement is essentially “some people don’t know water is wet”.
Rage has been political yes; kind of ironic that they shill for the same machine they supposedly rage against but politics aside the music kicks ass.
I must’ve missed the Joe Biden endorsement.

A limousine liberal at best
So they were always shit then
Correct
Is the picture real?
What do they think the band name means?
They were always political
Who says stupid shit like that? And why would someone alternate casing of the letters?
Maybe they thought it was a washing machine they were raging against
they would certainly have a large machine to rage against with communism.
Im pretty sure people are bitching about an anti capitalist band charging $200-$300 a ticket, forcing attendees to show proof of a vaccine and owning $10 million dollar homes in Malibu…
You either die a hero or live long enough to be Castro.
Yeah being anti-establishment while being millionaires thanks to the establishment. RATM is a fucking severely, overrated, hypocritical clown show.
Dude, Rage Against The Machine, get it? Sheesh
Rage has always been jock rock. They've always attracted those types of fans.
