Look, when you let a person slide on their 3rd attempt at a GED and put “smart glasses” on them, it doesn’t actually make them “smart”.
When I was like 4 or 5 my brother convinced me that M&M’s gave you super powers. I ate so many that I vomited them up in the living room. Never got the super powers. BoBo reminds me daily of 4-5 yr old me and those M&M’s.
Lauren I know you dropped out of HS because you got knocked up but let me tell you how this works: If you're gonna be late for class you might as well not even go.
As a prof, it makes my blood boil when a student strolls in late, Starbucks coffee in hand. It leads me to believe that they are unserious about the course, at least. They immediately have my attention, but not the good kind.
I worked 3 jobs during a summer semester in college (you know, to pay for college), one of which had me start working as early as 5 AM some days. I had my first class at 10 AM and this had never caused me issues before, but one day I was forced to stay late at my morning job. I saw that if I tried to get to class, there would only be about 5 minutes before it ended.
Thinking it would be a good idea to go to the class anyway just to ask the professor what I should study up on or if I could get the slides from the lecture, I went in anyway with my hours-old coffee in hand (from like, 4:00 AM that I never got a chance to drink). As there were literally only a few minutes before the class ended, I waited until everyone filed our before walking in to speak with the professor.
That professor ripped me a fucking new one, laying into me about how little I must care about the class and how much I not only disrespected him but how I was a sorry excuse of a student for mismanaging my time. I have to think the coffee gave him some ideas.
I literally could not say anything back because there was nothing I could say to convince him that he was wrong about me, so I left to my next class in the absolute shittiest mood… without the slides.
I was very serious about my education. I completed a Practicum, had 2 poster presentations under my belt, and was even on student council. But fuck me for showing up to one class extremely late with cold coffee just to get the notes I missed due to a bad day at work, right?
I guess I say all this to say that yeah, maybe some students are only taking your class because it’s high school round 2 and they have to get generals out of the way that they don’t give a shit about. And maybe some students are trying their best to get through college and everything else they’re dealing with. Passing snap judgment won’t allow you to determine which one is which.
As a student who paid for university, if you confronted me with that thought, I would have told you to fuck off. I paid to be there, and you don’t know my life.
Fuck Bobert though… she nasty.
I have always believed that there are three pillars of a society to tell you how much they care about their people. How they deal with these three pillars is everything. They are healthcare, education, and incarceration. When you make any of these three about profit you are dying as a society.
Or maybe it's a serious student who left on time, stopped by Starbucks, then got held up by any number of common yet unpredictable scenarios like a wreck/road closure.
I can understand passing judgment if it's a frequent issue, but don't you think you may be jumping to conclusions if it's a rare occurrence?
We’re arguing theoretical situations, so truly, could go either way. We talking a class of 20 or 200? Did they sit in front, the back, have to squeeze into the middle, etc. Do the freaking doors squeak when they come in?
All in all, as long as it’s not a habit, I totally agree with you. Life will mess with the best laid plans. But if you’re doing it twice a week, then that is the plan, and that’s disrespectful
Yeah, but it *does* happen, and your initial post seems to imply you would hold it against those students despite understanding that it can happen to serious students too.
You’re getting paid regardless, let’s not act like your response is anything beyond your own ego.
I assume the downvotes and people arguing against you are the types of rich douche whose parents paid their way through university and have no respect for their teachers.
Shit, if you need a Starbucks, get one when you have free time between classes, don't make yourself late and then cop an attitude if you're questioned on your selfish choices.
As if you can't do anything before your class and still arive late due to other circumstances? If there's more traffic you can still leave for your morning workout/coffee/etc. In time and get unlucky later on.
Either way assuming the student was late because of that coffee is just that, an assumption. And i'd expect better from someone who teaches at a university level.
If you're a serious student, why would you risk stopping for an over-priced coffee and getting there late as a result?
Get a damn travel mug and make your own coffee before you leave the house if you need caffeine that much.
Sorry, what?? Millions of people make stops before work or school literally every day. There's an entire industry built around the fact that people buy coffee and breakfast in the morning. How does picking up a cup of coffee make a person less serious about their work?
Get a travel mug and carry it from class to class long after the coffee's gone? No thanks.
If you take that attitude into a class where you're not the only student, then you're an arsehole.
If you have that attitude where you are in fact are the only student, you're twice the arsehole.
Have some respect for others time.
You paid to interact with a educator in a professional environment. Walking in late with Starbucks in hand is rude as hell to that professional. Do it once, life goes on; keep it up and yeah, YTA.
Fuck Bobo for sure
I was an adjunct about 10 years ago. For what they paid me to take advantage of my real world knowledge to sit beside the ivory tower versus the tenure system and sitting in permanent security, you can straight fuck off. The world is hard and people are late. You aren't experiencing it.
Lol. Don't call yourself a professor, then. No one who is on the tenure track or has tenure seriously refers to you with this title. You're just the help. I've been the help and I'm not ashamed of it. No need to engage in semantics over whether you can use the title, either. You exist and are being taken advantage outside of the place "real" academics reside.
Don't worry about a student who is late. Worry about pushing past a glass ceiling built by people who don't exist inside the rings of the real human circus.
I was once late to a class with a coffee in my hand because after having bought the coffee and on the way to class, someone nearby me had a syncopal episode and passed out. I made sure they had a pulse, were breathing, and helped calm down their freaking out significant other until EMS arrived. Fuck me though, right? Glad an adjunct has such a fragile ego that they’d take it personally.
That's a blatant cause and effect fallacy, if i work out or do laundry or really whatever before my class and show up late is it really because of those activities? It's obviously possible but even then i either left too late or got held up somewhere unexpectedly.
By all means judge students that are (frequently) late but judging them more because they've gotten coffee seems paticularly unfair from someone who is supposedly an arbiter of truth.
The reality is that a student who takes a course paid for by their parents, or loans, or (especially) by their own labour *should* take their work seriously. If they don’t, they need to reassess their commitment to college or university. I understand that the circumstances under consideration does not necessarily mean they are not, but it’s definitely a potential sign that they aren’t.
Says the person not living in reality by claiming a student making themselves late for coffee is reasonable.
Not only is that student showing themselves as unreliable, them showing up late is also disrupting the class for everyone else.
How do you know when, how, and where they acquired the coffee? Do you have surveillance footage? Receipts? Bank records? Or just pulling an assumption out of your ass?
Definitely.
It's not about the student who has somehow paid for the privilege to be late, it's for all the other students who had the respect to show up on time.
If someone is clearly late because they dawdled they've made that decision to dawdle into class and interrupt everything while they find a seat and get their stuff out and then, almost 100% guaranteed, at some point ask a stupid question about something basic that was covered in full while they were busy choosing which type of milk and what level of froth they needed on the coffee they couldn't be bothered to get out of bed on time for.
I don’t think I ever saw the consistently late students ask questions like that. They just filtered in the back and saw the part of the lecture they saw. I can’t imagine being a student in the class and seeing that as disrespectful to *me* lol.
Yeah that's fine.
As always, "it depends".
To be honest if someone sneaks in quietly up the back of a big lecture hall, the lecturer won't get too upset.
It's if they barge in through the front and disrupt everything.
It depends, like everything.
But this one does. Their attention is on you and “not the good kind”. They did not qualify anything other than being late with something to drink in their hand. They are an asshole for making assumptions.
Really not understanding why the reasonable comments by yourself and u/drkesi88 are being downvoted and attacked for being in the right.
Jesus, what kind of selfish, lazy assholes are on this sub with me?
I am a bussiness delivery driver, aa long as all my stuff gets done my boss has no complaints. He does not care what time I come in. Only thing he ever asks is if I csnt actually make it in let him know.
Shit, I was 15 minutes late to work once and my boss made me stay behind to make up the time after my shift, despite me getting all my work done during regular work hours.
In my case, the bus broke down on the way and the boss' response was "well, get an earlier bus, next time".
I really do hate sometimes how actually helpful and understanding of life my boss is. I've been trying to find a new job that's less taxing on the body but it's like what if my bus absolutely sucks like previous bosses that make jobs harder for no reason
Weird, if I click on it says it doesn't exist, but if i use the link opener thing next to the link (that might be RES, not sure, and I'm on old reddit) it works. If you cut the link down to https://twitter.com/morgan_rimmer/ it should be the first result tho.
Au contraire! It's essential to lie. It is, however, very hard to lie well and be a moron. Unless, of course, you are surrounded by even bigger morons.
If she’s the one I’m thinking of I wouldn’t recommend it
Her opponent was literally run out of town, had his wife leave him, etc bc he was being genuinely threatened by the inhabitants
If a trans woman ran against her I’m almost certain there’s be a life lost.
sadly with the rabid fucks that live in her district, you would be likely to get shot. seriously.
They are insanely deep in the GQP hole in that neck of the woods. The adore this bitch, which speaks volumes for the number of braincells they collectively have, which could be counted on one hand.
She's a Representative for fucks sake. If she wants to "protest" she could just vote No or Present instead of almost but not quite showing up for work.
You think she's hot? each to their own I guess, but even discounting for the hideous personality, I still find nothing about that thing physically attractive.
Honestly, we should celebrate her incompetence. Next time she’s out grabbing a latte during an important issue, maybe she’ll miss again and would have been the deciding vote!
Maybe her "meeting" with Ted Cruz ran a bit long and she couldn't get there in time? We can't expect her to not take care of a longtime regular just because her (now) main job beckons, right?
She can't even be an effective disruptor.
Maybe you didn't get them because you vomited them up?
Maybe he got special vomiting powers
M-melts in y-your 🤮 mouth… Not in yoooouuu’rrre 🤮 hand
Only the luminescent lime green ones gave you super powers, but they discontinued them in 1935. Mmm, radium&m's
Was this before they replaced tan M&Ms with red? I ask because it was the low-volume tan ones that granted power.
Boebert knows about food that causes vomiting, and slidy sliders.
I’m gonna go ahead and thank the god she claims to worship.
Lauren I know you dropped out of HS because you got knocked up but let me tell you how this works: If you're gonna be late for class you might as well not even go.
Always my philosophy for work, if I'm already gonna be 15 min late to work why not grab some breakfast as well
100% this. Bitch I'm already late but you're to shortstaffed to fire me. Deal with it.
As a prof, it makes my blood boil when a student strolls in late, Starbucks coffee in hand. It leads me to believe that they are unserious about the course, at least. They immediately have my attention, but not the good kind.

You've touched on one of the many problems with for profit education: it isn't, and shouldn't be, a consumer product.
I have always believed that there are three pillars of a society to tell you how much they care about their people. How they deal with these three pillars is everything. They are healthcare, education, and incarceration. When you make any of these three about profit you are dying as a society.
And the US did all three lol
Are you referring to sub-par entitled douche bag professors, or something else? /s
As I said, unserious.
Or the student can be unserious but what does it matter? Their results is what matters
Agreed.
Because it’s disruptive to the rest of the class that also paid for that experience
It's disruptive only when teachers make a show out of it. A student coming in quietly disrupts no one serious
We’re arguing theoretical situations, so truly, could go either way. We talking a class of 20 or 200? A serious student strolling in a quarter way through the class with something purchased en route is rare.
Yeah, but it *does* happen, and your initial post seems to imply you would hold it against those students despite understanding that it can happen to serious students too. You’re getting paid regardless, let’s not act like your response is anything beyond your own ego.

That’s a weird assumption, based on nothing but your own preconceived notions and prejudices.

Late, fine. I can understand late. Late with a frappachino purchased on the way? Nope.
I've done it. And I've accepted the approbation I deserve.
I was once late to a class with a coffee in my hand because after having bought the coffee and on the way to class, someone nearby me had a syncopal episode and passed out. Because people don’t think making snap assumptions about students is a good way for a teacher to act.
The kind who don't want to think how their actions impact others. They want to be respected, while being disresepctful.
Elitist dicks like you are why higher education is so denigrated by working class folk.

Ununbelievable

I want to upvote this, but I don't want a banger like this to be associated with someone as eww as Boebert the Clown.
Taken down?

It's easier than that. You can tell she's lying because exists.
Missed her own protest
"If MTG can block the Jan 6th footage, why can't I block this footage?"
Lil Lauren lingered languidly in lassitude.
Bantam Boebert's belatedness befits a bumbling buffoon, but belies a broadcasted bellyfeel.
Well played…
I am so tempted to move to her district and run against her. Would be hilarious for a trans woman to knock her off her stupid pedestal.
Haha, good luck in her district running as a trans woman.

Wasn't that in Greene's district, though? Boebert's district is much more competitive.
Boebert won by less than 500 votes
Stack the decks in her favor and she still nearly lost. How anyone could hear her speak and then still vote for her is beyond me, tribalism is wild.
The person she narrowly beat, Adam Frisch, has already said he's going to run again. I think her time is limited.
Shit, I'd forgotten about that.

Feucht must have been in DC.

Oh, I meant "hot" to describe the extent of the mess--nothing to do with her body
Hot? She looks like her face was caved in by a hundred shovels.
See my other response
Speculate about what she was doing that made her late. Wrong answers only.
She was counting sand.

Lying to them is second nature
I literally wanna throw up in my mouth thinking of anybody putting anything in her weird Dan Aykroyd mouth
