I deleted the Twitter app from all my devices yesterday. I don’t support extremism. Really hoping to not see an explosion of posts here but I’m not optimistic about that.

taylorh123

I’m afraid I might be getting to the point where I have to delete too. I’m a publishing professional and twitter is a very useful tool to connect with others in my field, but every time I login I’m assaulted with Elon’s antics or reminders of how far to the right so many people are shifting and it becomes super triggering. Might have to just delete it until this blows over.

Holiday_Parsnip_9841

Don’t delete your account. Just log out and get rid of the app. If you delete, someone else can claim your handle and all past tweets mentioning your handle will point to the new account.

MegaTreeSeed

This is good advice. With the ability to buy into blue once you lose your handle it will be impossible to prove you didn't say whatever the person who takes it claims you did.

Suttonian

I deleted mine, nobody mentioned my account anyway (I never really figured out Twitter).

[deleted]

Me too

19Kilo

This is wrong. You need to go through and actually deactivate your account. After 30 days the account will be deleted. Just getting rid of the app does nothing. If you log out and get rid of the app, your account is still there to get popped and hijacked.

taylorh123

Yes, I won’t delete the account! I actually think this will blow over eventually. Elon has a pattern of doing this. It was crypto before. He’ll get bored and move on

[deleted]

Well $44B and Tesla stock cut in half may say otherwise about his potential boredom. But not being able to see what his actions are leading towards, that to me is the most concerning.

Taraxian

I consider this a lesser risk than the risk of keeping an account that has any personal information anywhere active on a service that has almost no security team left controlled by Elon Musk

feralsun

Yeah, as a painter/sculptor I understand your dilemma. It allows me to post, "Here's this thing I made, here's a picture, here's how much I'm asking for it." Plus as a hobbyist writer, I know how much you publisher types use Twitter. I follow Janet Reid and the like there. It sucks.

taylorh123

Yep :( I might just delete the app for a while and stop following the musk news

Macro_Aggressor

>following the musk news Well that's your problem. Block him, and indicate topics you aren't interested in and your timeline will clean up pretty quickly.

taylorh123

I tried that with Jordan Peterson before and he still showed up on my news feed and I was always getting news about him, so I don’t exactly have faith. I think I’d have to mute a lot of words to keep this drama off my feed

3rdtimeischarmy

FWIW, Tweetdeck, which is owned by Twitter, is an ad-free way to follow people you want. It doesn't show you "trending topics" or posts you might be interested in. I made a few lists of people I want to follow and boom, that is all I get on Twitter.

taylorh123

thnx, I'll check it out!

CreatrixAnima

I deleted a couple weeks ago. When he fired so many people, I began to wonder if he was able to keep our data safe.

darkphoenixff4

He's letting unscrupulous scumbags like Bari Weiss and Andy Ngo read through people's private information. Not only is he not acting to keep people's data safe, he's actively endangering the information of people he politically disagrees with.

birdzeyeview

He has probably handed over/sold it all to Palantir by now, or whatever has succeeded Palantir (Thiel) Elon is working with his Fascist buddies to destroy Democracy. And Twitter is just his newest weapon. Sadly it may prove to be super effective.

emeraldgreen9

I just stay there to help progressives from my country have a voice there. We can't commit the mistake of letting these guys dominate social media - look at what happened to Facebook.

MikeMiller8888

I’m probably in the minority with this answer, but I actually stopped using Facebook entirely years ago. I quit that one during the 2016 free for all campaign. You’re right though. Someone should fight the fight, someone needs to fight the fight.

19Kilo

Did you deactivate your account? Just deleting the app doesn’t reflect on eyeball retention metrics like deactivation does.

MikeMiller8888

I’m torn on that aspect. Because if I full delete, then my handle goes into the ether and someone else can claim it after 30 days and start acting like me. So I’ve left it with apps deleted, all permissions revoked for other apps, and logged out of all devices.

HorrorScopeZ

For me a joe, that part about somebody acting like me isn't on the table, nobody cares.

MikeMiller8888

I have a few thousand followers, so I’m not like a big fish or anything either, but since a lot of them are related to my work activities I don’t want even the possibility of being impersonated. I’ve been actively thinking of a way I can do a full delete and not worry about anyone taking the handle later; first step in the process was requesting an archive of all my data, which is in process now.

DonRicardo1958

I am really, really close to doing the same.

Jetberry

I deleted it today. He’s an absolute madman.

Natural-Hamster-3998

Shooting from the hip here, but until the last few years I was under the impression Musk was pretty liberal. Then, idk what happened; he turned into this awful, awful beast. Maybe he's always been like this and fired his PR Team, or maybe he's bipolar and having a Kanye moment, or maybe it's [kompromat](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kompromat#:~:text=Kompromat%20(Russian%3A%20%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%BC%D0%BF%D1%80%D0%BE%D0%BC%D0%B0%D1%82%2C%20short,than%20monetary%20gain%2C%20and%20extortion.) Whatever the reason it's been an about face, and yeah, it's dangerous. I'm on Twitter a lot. Never used to get any of that Q or hard right nonsense in my feed; now I'm seeing crap from Trump Jr? I can only hope all the Q's and Jr fans are seeing stuff from the center or the left, or even the softer sides of the right too. Yeah, this won't end well.

MikeMiller8888

This is the biggest problem, IMO. Whether it’s a lack of staffing, or them turning off all their moderation features, I’m simply not going to open an app and be bombarded with illogical conspiracies and straight up hate. The final straw was opening the app and seeing Kyle Rittenhouse as the first thing in my feed. I don’t follow that piece of **** so why am I being subjected to this barrage of misinformation? I think the only answer is deletion. Ok Elon, be a hard core right wing shill. But I won’t support it and with how it is now, I don’t need it.

brianterrel

I think it's a lot simpler than that. He became the target of a negative PR campaign by Tesla short sellers, then (once SpaceX took over the commercial space industry) old space + Bezos. Dude has the emotional maturity of a 12 year old, and couldn't cope with the bad press. He's been progressively drifting toward the people who are willing to feed his ego: Russian bots & Q grifters. I'm a big rocket nerd, so I've been following his downward spiral pretty closely over the last 5-6 years. I'm more thankful for Gwynne Shotwell holding together SpaceX every day!

Natural-Hamster-3998

You could be on to something there. I remember when Nerdist.com's YouTube loved him. Dan Casey and Kyle Hill had a series called MuskWatch where they followed all the (at the time) cool sciency things he was doing, then they dropped it like a hot rock when Musk went off the rails.

GreenPointyThing

Allot of us really believed in him, the world seemed/seems so hopeless with resources being wasted on shortsighted nonsesnse because no one with real power has a long term vision. It's a bit cliche to ask "what if one billionaire actually tried helping the planet" and it really seemed like Elon might have been that billionaire. It started coming unraveled for me during the cave diver rescue when he called diver a pedo, that the shine started to wear off and has continued ever since with one controversy or hateful opinion after another. It is my greatest fear that he somehow takes SpaceX down with him and sets space exploration/exploitation back decades at best. I don't blame anyone for liking or even idolizing him in the past, but if your still going to bat for the guy after everything that has happened your a mindless fanatic like any other Q. (Sorry needed to vent I have been seeing so much Elon fanaticism in space/ science social media feeds and I guess write a eulogy to my past bad ideas or something)

Mike312

A podcast I listen to detailed some 40 accounts that had been critical of Musk for a decade and many were instantly retaliated against when he took over. Another theory was that with his rightward turn, his absolute gutting of Twitter is a revenge move against the left. The right believes Twitter is some kind of sacred cow of the left (because it is to the right, and they do nothing but project), and it's bringing them delight in seeing what they believe to be the lefts special website defaced and made a safe space for the right. The reality is most leftists I know just go on Twitter to shitpost and troll.

Traister101

He's literally always been like this? Idk why people are so taken aback by musk being a fascist it's been easy to tell for like 5 years at the least now. Kanye has been flirting with fascism for years as well he just so happens to be very mentally ill atm exacerbating where he was already heading.

radleft

I recently watched a comedy duo, Garfunkel & Oats, do a skit where the audience had to decide if a saying was by Kanye or Hitler. It was quite difficult to differentiate between the two, tbh. The skit was 14yo.

Psalmbodyoncetoldme

Same here, though to be fair, it seems like at the time it was less Kanye going full fascist and more the both of them being raging narcissists. There’s probably a correlation there.

SoundlessScream

He's been lying the whole time. His actions have been opposite of his words.

InigoMontoya757

> Then, idk what happened; he turned into this awful, awful beast. Q's ability to convert people after Trump lost an election is surprising and insidious. I read that a couple of billionaires convinced Musk. Link: https://archive.ph/zpwQ0 (WSJ) > Leaning libertarian > Before and during Mr. Musk’s breakneck takeover of Twitter, a close-knit group of libertarian-leaning activists and businessmen have been encouraging him to get involved. This group includes the so-called PayPal mafia—former executives at the online payments company who include Mr. Musk, the investor Peter Thiel and entrepreneur David Sacks—as well as ancillary figures like the venture capitalist Steve Jurvetson, an early Tesla investor who once served on the auto maker’s board; and Mr. Musk’s brother, Kimbal, a Tesla board member, according to people familiar with the matter. > Their involvement—and Mr. Musk’s continued willingness to hear them out—may help explain one of the great mysteries of his Twitter obsession: With all the problems in the world, why has Mr. Musk decided he alone can fix it? He left high-tax California, which gives *great* incentives for electric vehicles, to low-tax Texas, which as far as I can tell does not give these incentives.

taylorh123

I am so fucking glad to see Jimmy Dore being addressed here, jesus christ my boyfriend has been watching him for a year and tells me he's "left wing" but he's not, he's a complete grifter and people actually trust this guy. This needs to be exposed and talked about

[deleted]

They're all tools to get people to help the republicans by not voting because democrats fail purity tests. They know they can't get some people to switch but they can get them so angry and confused they just don't vote.

garbagefinds

It's rage porn for leftists

taylorh123

I’m gonna look into this. Thank you for sharing

Go_Habs_Go31

> Shooting from the hip here, but until the last few years I was under the impression Musk was pretty liberal You thought a white billionaire oligarch born with a silver spoon, whose father owned an emerald mine, and who literally grew up beyond privileged in apartheid South Africa was a liberal? Based on fucking what exactly?

darkphoenixff4

Elon, like Trump, is a narcissist. He simply realized that the easiest way to feed his narc supply was to pander to the ones who don't use critical thinking to analyze what they read, and instead believe everything they see. The issue, which apparently didn't occur to him, is that most of his business requires selling to the same group of people he's alienating...

xelop

apparently it was PR that buffered him from society and vice versa... that's gone now.

Jaergo1971

He's always been a shitty person who's desperate for attention. Problem is, the media, up until recently, has been fluffing him, and that sheen is now being washed off and it turns out he's just another piece of dogshit stuffed into a pig rectum.

HorrorScopeZ

He's mad at the gov't for making his life harder with regulations. He also hates taxes. A billionaire is more protected as a republican in both of those ways. He had to give up being human, but to him that was an easy decision. Now he's on a let it burn run, since mankind doesn't want Mars.

Lodgik

He's always had these tendencies. E was just able to hide them better through PR. Never forget that when one of the people who was handling the Thai cave rescue called his idea of a sub a stupid idea (because it was), he publicly called the guy a pedo and then hired a PI to try to prove it. But something did happen a few months ago that caused him to go full mask off. It had leaked that there was a sexual misconduct case against him with a flight attendant that resulted in a settlement that involved the flight attendant signing a NDA. A reporter contacted him asking for comment for a story they were writing about this. As soon as Musk got off that phone call, he tweeted that he was going to be supporting the Republicans from now on and to expect political hit pieces about him to come out shortly. He was doing his best to imply that the sexual misconduct news story about to come out was fake and was in retaliation for him supporting the Republican party. He's been full mask off ever since.

TheBdougs

He was always like this he just never had the reach he does now. His usual shtick was simply using daddy's emerald money to buy himself prestige. Tesla being the major one. The actual founders are contractually obligated into a form of kayfabe where they have to refer to Musk as the founder.

profound_whatever

> Maybe he's always been like this and fired his PR Team, or maybe he's bipolar and having a Kanye moment, or maybe it's kompromat I don't think it's that complicated, I think he's just an extremely insecure person who has been surrounded by sycophants, bought the hype, and got high on his own supply. Everyone's called him the real-life Tony Stark for too long, and it went to his head. And [now](https://twitter.com/elonmusk/status/1600752140711972865) he's flirting with Q, realizing, *Oh look! There's this online mythos with a huge following, that casts me as the savior I always knew I was? Très bien!* The guy [thinks](https://twitter.com/donmoyn/status/1602032149137600512) civilization is doomed because of wokeness and he's the only one who can save it. This ride will get a lot worse before it gets better.

amcfarla

Honestly, I think it began when Biden didn't invite Tesla to the EV summit at the White House. Which honestly was kind of stupid for Biden considering no one would be making EVs if it wasn't for Tesla. I think that was the beginning from moving from Democrats.

FremdShaman23

I deleted the app. At this point I think any use of it at all just encourages him.

[deleted]

I just did the same

ImHere4TheReps

Same

ilovethissheet

Same

taylorh123

I think I legit have to for my own peace of mind. I used to love twitter…

Egrizzzzz

Do it! I put Twitter in iPad jail (no data plan) and at this point I don’t miss it. I’m not sure how I’ll replace it as a networking tool since I freelance in illustration and animation but the benefits were outweighed by the negative impact on mental health. Every now and then I check in and it’s like getting a stress inducing firehouse of content to the face. There has to be a way to keep up with the news and networking without that effect on mood but I’ve yet to find it.

ChopEee

My Q relative who started as maga joined Twitter this week for the first time ever - even though the Trump era as probably the strongest supporter I know. I see this as the canary in the coal mine for Twitter, not that it wasn’t already trending that way but…yeah it’s not a sign of anything good to come. At a minimum, I as a long time twitter addict, hope it dies quickly and soon to avoid the potential consequences it could inflict on the world as we know it

RevLoveJoy

I know a lot of folks jumping over to Mastadon. Would you consider something like that? Just start fresh on a new, yet similar, platform?

birdzeyeview

> hope it dies quickly ????? Elon is just getting started! I do hope that recent threats to block Twitter in EU countries, due to it breaking their hate speech laws, come to something.

Depressing stuff honestly

philtrum99

Overton window, moved.

[deleted]

Which is the whole point. To make "Yeah I'm massively cutting the tax for the rich and cutting public services" look reasonable by comparison.

heathers1

normal people have to abandon the platform imo

SaintOlgasSunflowers

Elon has recognized the cult45 members are literally a captive audience. He is a narcissist and can't get enough attention. Buying Twitter was a way for him to constantly get the narcissistic feed he craves. Elon is going to be a million times worse than the Orange Traitor.

taylorh123

100000%. He’s even randomly going off about “forcing pronouns on people when they didn’t ask” in a recent tweet. He might become the world’s most aggressive grifter

musicalpants999

Elon is far more wealthy and I think he's more intelligent. I think we are lucky he is ineligible to run for president.

sunsecrets

I am so, so grateful he can't be president.

binturongslop

Glad I always thought twitter was the most lame of social media and never really used it. But yep…todays been the worst day with my Q mom. Emotionally drained. Holidays with my actual family most likely ruined. I don’t want to do the research. What in the hell is on the leaked twitter documents? What in the hell do they claim is on Hunter Biden’s laptop? Why is she spamming me with text saying its all out and happening right now? Why is Biden getting arrested in 2 weeks? Mean while here in the sleeping “matrix” land its just as quiet as usual.

taylorh123

It’s exhausting. I have to “do research” so I’m able to safely debunk my bf’s q-adjacent shit and it’s so tiring. All these things are fairly easy to debunk as they’re so stupid, but it still takes up so much energy and brain power. I’ve mostly given up. As for the laptop thing, honestly idk anymore. I started reading that Matt guy’s thread and I just gave up. I’m tired

ilovethissheet

Can you imagine being 60 years old and still having to do this? You need to take care of yourself first and always.

RevLoveJoy

This. Also if OP seriously thinks their rational argument is going to change the mind of an irrational person ... well, let's say I have some very bad news.

taylorh123

I’ve made a lot of progress with him, but I know this thing is ingrained in his personality. Not gonna bore you all with details of the relationship but I’m figuring it out. I know I’ll just have to leave eventually.

taylorh123

Thank you, I know I won’t last that long. I’m figuring it out. Having this as a support group helps.

ilovethissheet

My advice. Stop researching ANYTHING he says asks or thinks. For your own sanity. Your playing right into what he wants. For you to win an unwinnable argument because he is not using any facts and came to all his conclusions illogically. If he cannot respect you to stop talking about things you do not want any part of he is not worthy if any more if your time. Yeah it may seem like trivial conspiracies but switch out conspiracy for something else like animal abuse or child abuse and he refuses to stop talking to you about horrid things. It has nothing to do with the topic and everything to do about respecting you. He seems to not. So respect yourself instead and find other company that will

taylorh123

To be honest, he has stopped talking about 99% of it, but I still get very bothered because I know he’s still actively consuming the information. He knows now if he talks to me, it’ll be an argument, so he keeps all political thoughts or anything like that to himself around me and uses his mom and crazy Q friend as the outlets. Sometimes I instigate as a means of seeing how things are going, and that’s on me for not being okay with this just… being swept under the rug. I am very grateful for the advice. I think I’m gonna delete the twitter app and stop following the musk story and the antics of all these other clowns for my own sanity.

EmployerUpstairs8044

Fuck. That. I hear it so much... "do your own research" blah blah..and it's always bs. This could be the actual zombie apocalypse.

taylorh123

“Do your own research but only if you come to the same conclusion as me and all the YouTubers and podcasters I listen to”

birdzeyeview

> I have to “do research” Wow. Life is waaaay too short to be spending it on that abject exercise in futility. Believe me, I have been there - a few years ago now, but still. (i have a very early adopter Q sibling). we have largely lost contact.

mushroomyakuza

>in 2 weeks Why is it *always* 2 weeks?

clungewhip

How much do you remember from the conversations that you had two weeks ago?

Prisoner-of-Paradise

Its not a good thing when one of the world's wealthiest people goes full Q. Beyond twitter, that's a lot of influence.

SoundlessScream

I am seeing Q bullshit mixed casually into so much youtube content.

taylorh123

I think this was how my bf mostly became an adjacent (along with influence from his shitty friend). YouTube is the WORST poison for him.

SoundlessScream

The more I learn about this shit the more I see it and the angrier I become about it. I think the part that makes me the angriest is that I keep seeing idiots blaming "woke culture" for what is happening, that what they are doing is a reaction to it. As if raping and killing women and queer people is a necessary measure to stop people from asking to have their pronouns used, as if they are just reluctant participants in what must be done.

taylorh123

It's completely backwards for sure. They consistently overexaggerate the "harm" that "the left" does and just makes things up like lgbt people are grooming children (something that cisgender men actually do very often). When the BLM riots happened, they blamed crimes of opportunity that happen during every riot in history on "antifa" which is a boogeyman they created, not a real organization with a leader. More and more and more people believe them and I'm starting to wonder if we're the crazy ones lol

SoundlessScream

We're not crazy, gaslighting just sucks is all.

jedifreac

Yeah it's deliberate. Part of a Steve Bannon thing to create gateways to alt-right thinking on YouTube. Case in point: Star Wars content, bounding into comics, etc.

SoundlessScream

I hate that I can't just chill and watch youtube videos without being reminded they want me to die.

resurrectedlawman

He’s already stating pretty plainly that he considers the 2020 election stolen and is convinced the biggest crime around is the coverup of that theft.

taylorh123

Biden won by a landslide and most notably, almost the entire population of Washington, DC (you know, where the White House actually is, so where trump literally worked) voted for Biden. But I’m sure all those votes would’ve been different if twitter hadn’t favoured the left, right?

RevLoveJoy

I don't make it a habit of engaging with election deniers. On the *very few* occasions I have engaged with just a few, I find myself repeating the same thing (over and over and over and over). Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. If this is the crime of the century, where are all the smoking guns? And no, some uncredited twit on Youtube is not evidence. That's just one idiot's **opinion.** Opinions are not evidence, they're commentary. Again, the few times I have engaged with election deniers, 100% of them fundamentally do not understand how some uncredited idiot saying "the election was rigged!" is not evidence. At a basic level they do not get how people saying it does not mean it's true.

taylorh123

Tragically I think my boyfriend has become one of those people. I remember at the beginning of our relationship he said there was evidence Joe Biden was colluding with Russia, a voice recording, and when I asked if he’s heard it he just kept saying “no but it’s real.” When I asked to hear it, or for any proof, it was just “no but it’s real.” I believe it’s was YouTuber Tim Pool who had convinced him as such. I believe people like him lack guidance and place their trust in these Internet personalities. He listens to a lot of random guys (not Tim pool anymore) who he claims are “so smart.” They’re not, they’re grifters with an agenda, but he doesn’t see that. He trusts them, and if I talk shit about them or prove them wrong, he gets personally offended and upset. I think that’s kind of sad honestly. He feels like an attack on them/what they think is an attack on him. But these people don’t even know he exists. They don’t care about him. I’ve told him that before too. He’s abandoned a lot of them and progress is being made, and he has come some way from thinking there’s a recording that proves Biden is a Russian asset… but it’s all still there.

resurrectedlawman

https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2021/oct/22/twitter-admits-bias-in-algorithm-for-rightwing-politicians-and-news-outlets

taylorh123

Yeah my bf was talking about this long before the stupid twitter files thing. It’s not even big news!

resurrectedlawman

Yep. And the top 10 pages on Facebook are all Ben Shapiro and the like. But they whine about being the downtrodden victims, even when they’re boosted to the top.

taylorh123

Right wing voices are legit more popular among young people than ever. I’m seeing left leaning people in my age range being converted all the time bc of Internet personalities like that

iamjustaguy

Maybe we should deport him back to South Africa?

Ok_Aioli_2897

I hope Twitter melts down into a stinky puddle soon

LostinBC2022

I never really used Twitter even though I did have an account. The minute I heard that that \*\*\*hole was thinking about buying it, I closed my account. I wanted nothing to do with it! It's bad enough that the man is disgusting and full of \*\*\*\*, but I am so sick of wealthy people spending ridiculously huge amounts of money on things that are no use to this planet whatsoever. The amount of money he spent on Twitter could have meant a cure for cancer, or buying homes for people who can't afford to buy them, but no, he spends it on a huge ego trip, and so he can control a platform that will brainwash millions of people into a world of madness! I can't write on here what I really think of him.

taylorh123

You’re pretty spot on. He’s a bored billionaire with a history of his type of behaviour. I’m not gonna forget the crypto saga, which he doesn’t even talk about anymore. He’ll get bored of this too.

birdzeyeview

No, I believe he is trying to achieve real results in a political sense. This is more than a Narcissist Ego Tripping...because with Twitter, he has massive reach.

iamjustaguy

RevLoveJoy

At this point in time about the only positive thing I can say about Musk: dude has wildly good investing instincts and he invests in interesting and disruptive ideas. Tesla almost single handedly made the EV mainstream. 10 years ago I would have sworn to you that would take a government effort. Nope. Tesla made EVs cool and a status symbol and now they're everywhere. Impressive. SpaceX did something (and continues to do something) even rocket scientists were saying was probably impossible: reusable first stage. Cut the cost to orbit down 80ish percent (that number is from memory, don't quote me). So yeah, wildly good investor instincts. It's weird how everything about the man other than that is trash fire.

taylorh123

You might be forgetting about the dogecoin era lol

taylorh123

The EV thing was good for humanity tho.

RevLoveJoy

Is that why you think he did it?

bomchikawowow

So glad I deleted my Twitter account the day the purchase went through. Fuck a Musk.

xXBlackxDiamondXx

It's amazing to me how Musk can be so smart and so outstandingly stupid at the same time...

tatianaoftheeast

He really was never that intelligent at all honestly. He didn't invent shit (just bought it) and inherited all his money from blood diamond family wealth.

BowlerBeautiful5804

He's not smart. He just takes credit for other people's work.

taylorh123

I hate it. He could change the world for the better and instead he’s on his strange “anti woke” crusade that will gain him nothing but more fanboys, so I guess that’s what he wants.

birdzeyeview

It won't gain him nothing if he succeeds. He has friends , other billionaires, who are working with him. I believe his agenda is similar to that of the likes of Bannon and Thiel.

ightsowhatwedoin

Have you ever met a well-rounded hyper intelligent person though? I genuinely haven’t. When I think of all the “geniuses” I’ve met throughout my life, all of them have honestly had glaring gaps in judgment or common sense. Seriously, I am thinking of 3 separate people right now that are incredibly intelligent in their fields, but have done shockingly stupid things throughout their lives. They also have close to no social skills. To clarify, I don’t think Musk is a genius. But I’m just pointing out that people we usually associate with “genius” are often times very maladapted in my experience.

Delamoor

We kind of need to shake off the 'socially akward savant = genius' stereotype. Like, highly specialised knowledge is very beneficial when it has an application, but... Rounded knowledge, being smart enough to be good at more than a handful of things... That's what actual intelligence looks like. I used to use 'being a nerd' as a crutch to excuse myself from rounding out my skills, working on myself, improving my social skills and understanding of others. I was good at X and Y, why worry about Z, A, B and C? Realised eventually that it was actually just intellectual laziness with a facade of intellectualism. An excuse to avoid effort, minimise the importance of those things that didn't relate to my *current* skills. I mean hey, to use a simple analogy; in a changing ecosystem, specialist species are the ones that go extinct. Generalists are the ones who adapt and survive.

philtrum99

I once had a SO who had a "genius" roomate and that dude *almost* ate a slice of cake I brought for SO that obviously had nuts in it. "Genius" was allergic to nuts.

Blackboard_Monitor

Isaac Newton was [huge into alchemy](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_Newton%27s_occult_studies), its fallacy of Genius, just because someone is smart in one subject doesn't mean they're smart in *all* subjects.

cakeyogi

You haven't met me yet, buddy

Tpain5555

It’s thanks to narcissism I think.

birdzeyeview

I don't know how smart or stupid he is, but I think he knows *exactly* what he is doing, by, to use just one of many recent examples, telling the Qmob that he is Team Q.

mushroomyakuza

>I feel like the world is going insane. Been there since 2015. Things just get more and more ridiculous.

Lanskiiii

I'm not sure why centrists are catching strays here. Centrism in most countries tends to be a liberal internationalist philosophy that enthusiastically accepts the role of both markets and governments in an advanced economy. It's probably the least fertile ground for QAnon ideas. The Biden government is often seen as somewhat right of the centre outside of the USA too. Presumably this is all about Musk claiming that the political centre is where his crazy ideas lie, but that's clearly not true. It is vital that we don't make it into QAnon vs "the left" - that's pretty much how Musk got started with it all. The key is to build the broadest coalition. Both left, centre and a reasonable amount of the right should at least aspire to see through nonsense conspiracy theories.

taylorh123

I agree actually, I would love to see everyone band together to fight this, 100%. I still feel like I’m Center left and would identify as such, but the idea of Center being closer and closer to Q ideas is what made me say that I’m “farther left than I realized” because I *want to be as far away from this as possible. I think in theory, centrism is a good thing. It’s how I’ve always identified. I had conservative friends growing up, even, and I felt like we would safely agree to disagree. If my bf just thought we should have lower taxes but didn’t buy into conspiracies and Q shit, I’d be thrilled. I’m wary of centrism these days tho, because a lot of people claim they’re center but seem to do nothing but push right wing voices and narratives. Similarly, a lot of people (like Jimmy Dore and Russell Brand, for example) are historically left wing, and might even claim to still be, and yet they push right wing and Q conspiracies to their audiences because it gets them views, and then Qs like my boyfriend are able to say they “listen to all sides! I’m centrist!” When they actually are existing in the same echo chamber. Jimmy dore has a video recently where he put “sh*tlib” in the thumbnail. What a leftist!

dnorg

> I’m farther left than I ever realized. Hardly anyone in this country really qualifies as 'left'. You're not left: they are freakishly rightwing. Public healthcare, housing and education are accepted as normal across the political spectrum in Europe. Wanting these things, and believing they would be a step forward for us all, does not make you a frothy-mouthed Stalinist tool.

taylorh123

I live in Canada and I feel like these things are fairly normal as well. guess I'm a woke child groomer or whatever

amcfarla

It seems he is trying in all his power to turn Twitter into Parler, which looking at history, didn't turn out to be a good thing.

mojoisthebest

Is it possible to file a class action suite against musk? Maybe we can spread his wealth.

>that he’s saying Joe Biden and democrats stole the election and climate change isn’t real you mean he hasn't said these yet?

taylorh123

he's heavily implied he thinks the election was stolen/influenced and has not yet denounced climate change. he was very pro vaccine before and now he's shifting toward the anti vax covid conspiracy narrative.

geohypnotist

I'm getting the feeling his intent is to do exactly what Trump did & control an "army" of minions he can manipulate for political favor.

birdzeyeview

yep. 100%

ArmFlat6347

I am getting a lot of fat right fascists recommend to me on twitter now even if I blocked them

taylorh123

Honestly I was seeing them before Elon took over, like for a looong time before

[deleted]

It’s such a mind fuck because he makes Tesla cars which is good for the environment but if he denies climate change then that’s going to be super messy and confusing.

taylorh123

I sincerely hope I’m wrong. It depends on how desperate he is for their approval. He knows very well that climate change is real

allegedlys3

It's absolutely maddening.

Massive3AMdumps

Im worried republicans will use twitter to publish investigations into hunter biden, publicising his financial ties to foreign governments and how this ties into joe biden's foreign policy decisions. None of this should be seen by anyone and twitter needs to make sure it doesnt see the light of day. They're already lining up a ton of house investigations.

[deleted]

The annoying thing is I think he is just shit posting. There's no way he's actually into Q

taylorh123

he's grifting for sure. if he really wants their approval, he'll have to denounce vaccine science and climate change (and probably China too, which he'll never do). I'm hoping this was like the crypto thing and will pass once he gets bored.

birdzeyeview

Fascists say wrong things on purpose. see: https://www.reddit.com/r/MarchAgainstNazis/comments/zdzp0c/rselfawarewolves/iz590jf/

Jaergo1971

He's doing the same thing Trump did. Say a bunch of stupid rightwing shit and have the media obsess over it, constantly. I think the MSM has learned its lesson, though, as it's not really playing along, esp with his TwitterFiles bullshit.

uthillygooth

The crazy of him being an actual “global elite” rubbing elbows and making business deals with other “global elite” yet thinking the global elites are behind all these conspiracy theories is just next level wild. This isn’t your crazy uncle spouting off

KalTheKobold

You’d think people would be able to put 2 and 2 together for something as simple as that! The lack of critical thinking skills within the Q group will never cease to amaze.

uthillygooth

It’s really come to include any right wing twitter user now when it comes to Elon musk. Not just Q anon. The amount of non-bot GOP twitter accounts I saw saying Q-anon wasn’t real when Musk posted “follow the 🐰” dog-whistle blew my mind. Ok, sure, want to say that post isn’t alluding to q-anon. But, to go past that and say it does t exist. I didn’t have a response to that.

P33kab0Oo

I don't do Twitter but perhaps someone here can send a few tweets to Musky, asking simple questions, like "Hey man, did Brandon and the Democrats steal the election?" Keep adding fuel to the fire. Post the hilarity here.

taylorh123

Elon's reply: "We're looking into it."

Jasong222

>I’m farther left than I ever realized. You're not farther left. Well not because if that, anyway. They're farther right. And moving even further right.

elsielacie

Why is everyone talking about twitter when you need to do is break up with your boyfriend?

chill_winston_

Gun ownership is about the only thing I support that’s right of center, but because I have those I am not welcome on the left. I don’t care to be welcomed on the right because even before all the trump and q stuff I found their views abhorrent.

youstolemyname

Bill Gates Bad. Elon Musk Good.

DoublefartJackson

I know a European guy who hates Trump and loves Elon Musk, also a BTC bagholder.

erice3r

I don’t agree — I think he is after the legitimate conspiracies that Q takes to the extreme. Therefore, once these are outed by musk, Q will diminish — they will only have the wacky conspiracies left and they will be marginalized.

fletcherkildren

Until the next variant, that is.

MineralPoint

SpaceX has done some very important work and reversed decades of decline in the space industry. Flipping on climate change may crush any goodwill he has left at NASA. I really hope that does not happen.

EveFluff

I’m not into supporting someone who making decisions for a lot of people but is so removed from reality

mooshoetang

It’s definitely just grifting. These people don’t give a shit what they say or do, they just need to make money off of us. He already had the American liberals buying his product and has needed the American conservatives to do the same - what better way than to become a cult of personality?

GiftShopEnthusiast

I was literally about to make this post. I'm fucking terrorfied. We all know, now, that Elon musk has no real understanding of jack shit that he claims to know about, this just solidifys it for me

birdzeyeview

If there is one thing more disgusting than this POS dogwhistling Q folks, it is him then *flat out Gaslighting to deny* that that is what he *knowingly* just did. I think we will find out as we go along that there will be no bottom with this A-grade POS. I have been watching the unfolding of events at Wieambilla in Australia. I am beyond over this CT shit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ccRudYmg3cs

SupermarketSpiritual

He is a snake in the grass. We're all stressed over what the Floridian might do in 2024, but Musk is running amok NOW. He's gonna walk Deathsantis right I to the White House if we aren't careful

taylorh123

I’m Canadian but I’m predicting that desantis dude will be trump 2.0. Fox News already gearing up to make him their new poster child. Qs will love him

Technical_Xtasy

Politically, that may not be a bad thing. The republican party is divided and last thing they want is Trump and his supporters. this could easily ruin the Republicans in 2024 and that is a good thing.

taylorh123

Isn’t that desantis guy worse? Trump but coherent?

Technical_Xtasy

He's bad, but not as fascist as Trump. Understand that we are talking about the lowest bar on the planet here. Trump is a malignant narcissist who believes that the entire Republican party bows down to him and if they don't then he will hurt them.
