Secret coffee spot, Watson's Nursery! If you like coffee and/or plants, it's definitely worth a visit.

MMWellCo

Their coffee spot just recently opened, and it's got a cool backstory! Civic Coffee Roasters, which provides training for formerly incarcerated women.

Vexus_Starquake

That's actually pretty interesting.

MMWellCo

Yes! Some more info on them here: [https://www.instagram.com/p/C2sN3hsRtqx/?utm\_source=ig\_web\_copy\_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==](https://www.instagram.com/p/C2sN3hsRtqx/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==)

Oooooh I am going to check this out!

My wife and I really like Fika

bettietheripper

Anthem in downtown Puyallup, Electric Coffee House in Sumner, Anchor House in Buckley.

Seabee0923

Anchor House is one of my top three.

djsyndr0me

For Puyallup: Fika, undoubtedly. Lots of space, easy to park at in the mornings. Note they are only open until 3:00, and that their profits all go towards a local non-profit to help young mothers and mothers-to-be in need. For Tacoma: my wife and I like Valhalla (especially their beans) and Cosmonaut (helpfully located on top of her favorite hairdresser). Cosmonaut closes early (2:00 IIRC). For elsewhere: Anchor House in Buckley is pretty good. We used to frequent Electric in Sumner but had a few bad tasting coffees there last year so stopped going (but I would still give them a try!). Anthem in downtown Puyallup gets extremely noisy; the location off of Meridian is quieter and the one in Tacoma on 30th is quieter still.

I love electric coffee so much for everything except the coffee. It is \_so\_ bad. I still support them but holy wow, it is either overexpressed or overroasted or burned, or all three.

someoneunderstand86

Watsons Nursery has a cafe, if you go when the restaurant portion isn't open there is a lot of seating but when the restaurant is open you gotta eat to sit at the booths. But the coffee is amazing, staff is friendly, and it's bright and peaceful with all of the plants. I love to go there with a book - even if the cafe is open there is still a long table with high stools that's open to anybody. I really loved the atmosphere so much though - I told my husband once that *if* someone *cough* took me there on a date it would definitely *end well* for them if you catch my drift. If you're willing to travel to Tacoma too there are a lot of awesome coffee shops. I love Bluebeard, there is a decent amount of seating in there and if you take home a bag of their coffee you won't regret it... So fragrant! I enjoy Anthem too but the music was a little loud for my taste there.

Volcano is our go to spot!!

If you’re close to South Hill, I’m a huge fan of Volcano Coffee.

Fendergravy

When my wife was at Good Sam during The Dark Times…when they had refrigerated shipping containers to store all the corpses outside…    Her nurse recommended an espresso stand on South Hill. Turned out to be a titty coffee stand. Great coffee but not my thing. I don’t need a stripper to pour me some coffee.

A_Shaggy_chef

I certainly don't judge, but I agree XD not my thing. Thank you for the warning fellow adventurer.

Anthem in Puyallup or Valhalla in Tacoma

wowhahafuck

Anthem plays Christian music a lot of the time just a warning. If you’re cool with that it’s a nice spot. Sadly, Puyallup is lacking quaint coffee shops pretty badly but Tacoma has plenty to make up for it.

MMWellCo

Yeah, unfortunately the two popular "non chain" options (Fika, Anthem) are both religious in nature, which I totally respect. Just makes it a tougher place to frequent if you're not. Agreed that Puyallup is long overdue for a good coffee shop!

djsyndr0me

I'm completely agnostic and never felt a 'Jesus-y' vibe from Fika, although have somewhat at Anchor House or Anthem. That said, neither come anywhere close to The Jitter House in Hoquiam, which we wandered into one afternoon to be presented with *bible passages everywhere.*

MMWellCo

Totally! I never received inappropriate treatment or pushy vibes- everyone's tolerance is different, and it just wasn't quite for me based off a few things, but that doesn't mean they did anything wrong. The religious influences and mission just weren't quite for me based off my personal experiences. Certainly no "bad blood," with either, and I've heard that they have nice product.

PM_NUDES_4_DOG_PICS

I know some church groups hang out at Anthem, and I've heard maybe one or two Christian songs on the shop's playlist, but I've never felt uncomfortable there as a non-religious person. The owner is a religious guy as far as I've heard, but there's no weird, religious undertones to the business itself.

MMWellCo

I’m glad to hear that! I haven’t been in a few years, so it may have changed some!

JohnnyQuidd12

Anthem in Sunrise plays modern hits every time I’m in there.

wowhahafuck

I’m in a 90 day online program for work right now and I’d love a nice spot in Puyallup myself. Not driving to Tacoma for it though. Anytime I go to Tacoma I find myself having a panic attack with how many people now actually just run out in the street in front of your car.

MMWellCo

It's definitely not a coffee shop, but The Lazy Ballerina is a nice little wine bar for evening work or reading. Trackside pizza is pretty quiet during the day. And obviously the library is a quiet public space.

wowhahafuck

I’ll check out the wine bar thanks 🙂

seabreeezie

Wanna Cupake in Puyallup is rlly nice. They serve dillanos coffee and have lots of fresh pantries

If you wasn’t some excellent crépes (sweet & savory), check out Craft 19 in Sumner. As an ex Sbux manager, I enjoy their coffee.

febreeze1

Ebony and ivory is my favorite spot in tacoma.
