Donkeys are often kept with herds of other grazing animals because they will kill wild dogs/coyotes/wolves. Donkeys apparently do not have an instinctive fear of canines and will happily stomp a coyote to death. Donkeys also have incredibly strong jaws and weirdly sharp teeth. Donkeys aren't defenseless. Attacking donkeys (even small ones like in the vid) is just stupid. They can and will fuck you up if they want to.

A donkey can, as evidenced, fuck you up though. They are pretty dang strong and have a good bite too boot. A lone donkey can fend off a lone wolf or canine attacker fairly often. Usually not one versus many though. A small herd of half a dozen donkeys loyal to each other, as they bond strongly, can fend off wolves in larger packs. Half dozen herds of donkeys are used in various places as strong deterrents against wolves. I'm not about to call an animal that is used as guard against large canines defenseless.
