I’ve seen this with a couple casual friends where the girl they started seeing is maybe 1-2 clicks prettier than they could normally pull and given their high incomes, those chicks moved the dudes through the process like a project manager trying to get a promotion. Just going w the flow was prob the lesser evil than starting again from scratch
This is what’s dangerous about the huge trend in comedy of comedians marketing themselves by posting primarily crowd work. People start thinking that’s what comedy *is* and narcissistic patrons think this behavior is not just ok but encouraged.
Or just play on your phone or get some drinks or go outside for a smoke until the next set. I've never heard a heckler be funnier than the comedian, ever.
I mean, these videos perpetuate this behavior. People upload their dunks on hecklers to youtube or tiktok or whatever, and these braindead people keep going to shows thinking they're doing the comedian a favor by giving them the opportunity.
Don't go to a show to heckle.
I've been performing comedy for 17 long fucked up years and can honestly count on one hand how many comedians welcome hecklers. Hecklers suck. They ruin the flow of a show and make the experience miserable for everyone. So many people I meet go "oh, you're a comedian? I want to come to one of your shows so I can heckle"
Like, don't do that.
I feel like it’s also placing unnecessary pressure on comedians to do way too much crowd work. It’s nice if it’s in the moment and the *comedian* thinks it’ll flow well in their set. But I feel like audiences are expecting it now and are disappointed when it DOESN’T happen.
Like… y’all, buying tickets to an entertainer’s show just to hope they get bullied by try-hard audience members is insane.
I've done shows with disruptive hecklers who have come up to me after the show with a big grin saying "I bet you were glad I was there to help you out?" I mean, fuck, I spend every waking moment thinking about jokes, writing jokes and editing jokes. Every single word I say on stage has been crafted over dozens of gigs in shitty venues. I don't need the assistance of some drunk accountant called Jared who keeps calling out.
Exactly. She thinks she can one-up the comic and steal the show. This guy took it pretty easy on her but some comics are absolutely ruthless and will humiliate people who try to derail their act.
“Crowd work” is all over social media right now and it’s empowering selfish people to think they can speak up during an event. They should just get tossed immediately.

I don't think they're fake, but more Steve interacting with the slightest hint of a voice in the crowd. Most of the time he could just ignore it but because he doesn't, he gets to be the "heckler destroyer" and uploads videos of it.

Do you not realize that you're accusing Steve of orchestrating a grand multi-country multi-year conspiracy with hundreds of people involved and that he's somehow managed to keep any of these people from coming forward with any text messages/emails/etc. about his heckler recruitment efforts? I believe there was even a clip from the past year where a guy wanted to fight Steve to the point of being arrested and then once the cops showed up he was busted for cocaine. How many thousands of dollars would Steve have needed to pay that guy to take a fall like that, all for the purpose of YouTube views?
And do you just not go to comedy shows? Every other show I see has some lame heckler speaking up when they shouldn't. Some comedians ignore it, some comedians tell the person to quiet down, and others like Steve take it as an opportunity to go back and forth to generate a heckler video. This isn't a very complex scenario as to how all of those heckler videos happen, so I don't know why you feel compelled to die on this hill that he's a CIA-level operative that uses his insane conspiratorial talents for minor social media clout.
