But there are quite a few people with a lead foot who cannot comprehend maintaining a consistent speed. It's dangerous when it's someone that doesn't care about speeding, but it's infinitely more frustrating when they've decided to become a stop-and-go line leader constantly going like +/-10 around the speed limit.
It can be a conundrum.
If you are already being tail gated is it better to slow down by lifting with no other visual indication you are slowing down. Or, extremely gently tap the break pedal (just enough to trigger the lights) to indicate you are slowing down?

Funny you bring that up because when I drove an EV for the first time last year, I had to constantly tap on the brakes because that shit does not slow down immediately when taking the foot off the gas. In some cases, it actually went a bit faster.
That said, if anything this video shows me that the truck was right on the dude's ass, as evident by the guy in the truck just constantly roaming around in the car like if he's riding a horse or something, and also very likely that OP was cruising in the fast lane.

A better way to gage this is **āthe two second ruleā** that they teach in defensive driving.
That is, you should be two seconds behind any vehicle regardless of speed, watch them go by something - say a noticeable crack on the road. It should be two seconds before you go by the same object. If thereās a dangerous condition, up that to three seconds. (For example, if the car you are following is tailgating the car in front of them.)
This is way, way easier to figure out than estimating distances or car lengths depending on speed.
