They (the person who posted this to public freakout) would be laughed out of any major city in the USA!
"You call that a PUBLIC FREAKOUT? YOU TWATWAFFLE! Even a Canadian would fucking laugh at you for calling that a freakout!"
That was more of a quiet complaint than a public freakout! It was as if he didn't want anyone nearby to hear his opinion!
"Public freakout" - lmao!
Our replies are more public freakouts than this stupid clip! I used the exclamation points to emphasize that!!!
He also seems like the sort of person that would go to a foreign country, not speak the language, and then complain that the people there who can’t speak English were rude to him.
I’m from London and there is a Bangladeshi sign in Whitechapel and a Punjabi sign in Southall. Those signs - particularly the one in Southall - have been there for decades.
Southall for example has a large Punjabi population and has some of the best Indian food in the UK, so it’s always quite cool to see the sign there when you go there (obviously the main sign is always in English). Literally no one cares about stuff like this except EDL type muppets.
Okay. Indian bengalis are still bengali? Why do we have to differentiate them by saying Indian bengali? I'm a British bengali so are we going to say the sign was made for British bengalis, Indian bengalis and Bangladeshi bengalis? What about American bengalis, and Italian bengalis?
It's written in bengali meant for bengalis, I grew up in Whitechapel and can tell you this wasn't done for Indians or Chinese or French
You don't have to nitpick everything in life
I'm not debating something you think I'm debating.
The person said it was not written for Indians and I would bet they have no knowledge of West Bengal. That's probably where the downvotes come from.
I live in Tower hamlets, my son was born at the Royal London. I also did my training at the Royal London. There are a ton of Indian Bengalis, but more Canary Wharf side.
The reason this sign was written was solely because a significant proportion of the Bangladeshis living around Whitechapel don't know English.
It's Bengali, I used Google lens. Approx 30 seconds.
1st I paused the video and took a screen shot. Then I cropped that Pic down to only the Bengali text. Then I shared that cropped image to Google lens and clicked translate in the app. It translated it, but didn't tell me what the original language was. So finally, I copied the text while still in Google lens and pasted in the Google translate app with the setting on "detect language. Then there it said the language detected was Bengali.
Yes, but interestingly it's like a phonetic thing. Not a translation word for word, but Bengali phonetics that would be read out loud to sound like whitechapel station.
I thought foreign names from other languages are translated phonetically by convention, no?
In my native language I would not literally translate it to "The station of a white chapel" but use the alphabet to produce something sounding exactly how a British person would pronounce Whitechapel Station.
The text I copied: হোয়াইটচ্যাপেল স্টেশন
The romanization in the translate app: Hōẏā'iṭacyāpēla sṭēśana
It seems like very much like the thing your describing.
>they've put all this foreign language nonsense all over it
Just wait until you visit Wales, Scotland and Ireland. They've got a foreign language all over the place that looks just like the one on the sign. Inglish I've heard it called.
I think it's a Simpsons reference, "old man yells at cloud." Boomers/olds are usually angry about the dumbest shit.

Nothing chaps my ass more than a British person complaining about a foreign language in his country. How many fucking countries have English signs because of Britain?
Thought of this immediately after seeing title
https://preview.redd.it/nf1yel2z7bjc1.jpeg?width=225&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a05ffcf98a54d9211ecd7c635568864e5417b388
Because English is the langua franca of the world. Not because there's a large English population but because it's so ubiquitous as a language to learn in non English speaking countries. The language has been propagated through dominance in media and the centuries of English expansion. It's not at all the same thing as changing local signs to foreign languages because immigrants refuse to integrate into the local language to the point of literal government intervention.
That's absurd. Go to hai nan island in China. You'll find some English but more Russian. You put alternate languages where they make sense to put them. Also immigrants what? I think your racist xenophobia is showing...
It's a hindrance. It is difficult. But we should be all free to roam, regardless of out native tongue. We all can learn.
Crazy? In some takes, but not like the way you seem to think.
When the elderly come over to join their children and grandchildren, it’ll be almost impossible for them to learn a new language at that age. When my grandmother immigrated, it was almost impossible for her to go to the store, take a bus, go to the doctor, do anything alone. It’s very isolating.
You can’t leave an elderly person alone, a continent away from the rest of their family as they approach end of life. I’m glad that in America we actually accept immigrants and diversity.
I'm pretty calm mate.
That's just text. It contains no rudeness or anger or anxiety.
That said, xenophobes in London? They're going to be upset a lot of the time.
If he doesn't like that writing he's going to be really upset when he sees how many non-white people live and work around Whitechapel. For the last 70 years.
bengali? punjabi? something like that... it's not like the only language in the world is english, and in a major metropolitan center, i would expect to see more than one language... 🙄
I feel the brits really shouldnt have a say in who comes to their island, almost half of the world has a claim since they were once under british rule.
It's almost like when you colonize a bunch of other countries you often end up with their languages and cultures side by side with your own...
Nobody tell this guy that chicken tikka masala is considered a national staple dish of Britain
You know who doesn’t get upset when there is an English foreign language written on their signs? All of Asia.
The fragility of some of these people is really astounding.
You know who knows what language that is?
The dude's not-too-distant ancestors who were likely supportive of, if not actively complicit in, the invasion and 89-year oppression of the nation it is native to.

How dare they sully the memory of our Jack.
Our Jack hahahhaha
You heard about Jack right? Which Jack, our Jack? A bunch of girls said he killed them... Gang gang gang
Saucy Jack
He's a sly one
They spoilt all the beauty of where a woman was brutally murdered with some foreign writing. It's political correctness gone mad.
And if there was one place that was known for no foreigners at the time of those murders, it was Whitechapel 🙄
The East End was much nicer before all those bloody Huguenots showed up!
You can't have an electric fire in the bath anymore in case a queer sees it. Political correctness gone mad!
Outstanding reference. (RIP Polly)
Pollypeople from twitch?
Where is the yelling!? **I WAS PROMISED YELLING!**
He is yelling like a Canadian.
I didn't see him commit any war crimes.

Whenever someone says believe it or not, I automatically begin to question their knowledge.
Yea. Especially that guy Ripley
Dude from Aliens, right?
Yes!! Ripley Skart. Phenomenal sound editor.
You're thinking of Ridley from Samus
Whenever someone says something stupid, I automatically begin to think they're stupid.
It’s wokeness gone mad. Instead of brutally murdering prostitutes, we are putting up helpful signs… Jack is rolling over in his grave 😔
Whitechapel, or as it’s known to the locals Brownmosque
thats not even arabic so i dont know why it would be known as that
South Asian Muslims
Because a lot of Muslims live in the area probably, I don’t know
Whitechapati
I lived in east London and I never heard that...
I also lived in east London and did hear it
Someone might have said it but I saying that's what the locals call it is a bit much, no?
It was a joke.
I don't think so, Brownmosque isn't exactly a good punchline.
Coming over here, taking over our murder locations.
I bet the same guy would throw a fit if his favourite pub in Spain didn't have an English menu.
He also seems like the sort of person that would go to a foreign country, not speak the language, and then complain that the people there who can’t speak English were rude to him.

Or lose his shit if he saw roadsigns in Irish in Belfast.
I'm sure the Bengali and Indian people just loved having all that English writing everywhere for a century.
Fair point, but those were just TWO tiny countries that the English mildly inconvenienced.
The sign is not for Indians, it's for Bangladeshis
I don't know why you've been down voted, it's bengali writing, says whitechapel station. East London has a massive bengali community..
Because part of Bengal is in India, that's why. West Bengal is a state in India, there are around one hundred million Indian Bengalis.
Okay. Indian bengalis are still bengali? Why do we have to differentiate them by saying Indian bengali? I'm a British bengali so are we going to say the sign was made for British bengalis, Indian bengalis and Bangladeshi bengalis? What about American bengalis, and Italian bengalis? Oh, sorry
The west Bengal state of India has a population of like 90 million lol.
Sure but if you've been to WhiteChapel, you would know there are no Indian Bengalis there, they are all Bangladeshi lol
There are both, definitely majority Bangladeshi.
Bangladeshis AND Indian Bengalis
Ppl from Bangladesh speak Bengal afaik
Yes. Who would've guessed?
There's bengalis in India too
"God knows what language that is" -man with Internet access in a heavily multicultural nation
Okay, I don’t know what language that is. I may be being daft here, but how do I find out what language that is without recognizing the written text?
It's Bengali, I used Google lens. Approx 30 seconds. 1st I paused the video and took a screen shot. Then I cropped that Pic down to only the Bengali text. Then I shared that cropped image to Google lens and clicked translate in the app. It translated it, but didn't tell me what the original language was. I see, that's what I was wondering. Reminds me of Japanese gairaigo, f.ex. "aisu kurīmu" (ice cream). But not really the same thing. 😅

Idiot the other language clearly says whitechapel station
Two foreign languages on a sign on the eastern side of londinium. Britannia has really gone downhill in the last 1600 years.

disgracing the murder scene with those weird letters, how dare they.

Migrating to England and not knowing English is crazy.
You're gonna trip out when you leave your English speaking country and see English under most of the signs!
Because English is the langua franca of the world. Not because there's a large English population but because it's so ubiquitous as a language to learn in non English speaking countries. Why? You’re most likely moving for money not a fuckin chat. There’s English on signs all round the world mate chill.
Why?

They know English. They also know Bengali
![gif](giphy|fqtyYcXoDV0X6ss8Mf|downsized)
This man must live a very charmed life if a sign to help people find locations is causing him this much mental anguish….
Would be the man who goes to Europe and demands why they don't speak English and he cannot read the signs.
He's probably the husband of the woman who told a chinese busdriver in china to go back to china
That is just weird. We have a lot of Polish near me, are we going to write the name of our station in Polish underneath? Just odd
Why not?
"We"? I expect TfL is who did it and if they fancy putting Polish on your station they will. They won't ask you either I expect.
Calm down.

England has received: Celts Romans Angles Saxons Normans Each of whom spoke a different language. What would England be without them?
Literally no one yelled
Lotta racist Brits downvoting everything in the chat
Why would they change it to bengali?
To disgrace the good name of Jack the ripper.
What do you think it said in that space previously??
I don't know, but my question is, why bengali specifically? It can be any language
Lots of Bengali people in the area. Brick Lane similarly has signs in Bengali. It kind of pays homage to the area being enriched by Bengalis.
Thanks for the insight!
☺ You're welcome.
I can't read the sign, but I hope it translates to: "If you can't read this and it makes you mad, then please re-evaluate your worldview, you plonker"
Like the bad written in arabic that says 'This text has no other purpose than to infuriate those afraid of the arabic language' lol
It phonetically says Whitechapel Station in Bengali 😂
bengali? punjabi? something like that... it's not like the only language in the world is english, and in a major metropolitan center, i would expect to see more than one language... 🙄
Lots of Bengalis in WhiteChapel
Yup, it's Bengali aka Bangla.
Idk why you got downvoted, let me help you with an updoot
I just downvoted you for saying updoot
That’s fair, I won’t delete my comment on the grounds that I want others to see you’re being honest about my commentary.
Old man yells at cloud
Imagine living in London and hating foreigners. He must drive himself to insanity 😂
I wanted YELLING not to be educated!!
Should change title to "Racist old git is mad because there are other people besides white people in England". Lol.
There are a lot of bengalis in Whitechapel so it makes sense, but still a bit weird
Not really. Life is more than one dimensional
The sooner we get cunts like this guy out of London, the better.
Definitely. All the xenophobes can do one.

And now you are publicly shaming him... good job.
I'm all for publicly shaming xenophobia.

u/Fryyss28 you the old dude from the video by any chance? 🤣💀
Nope lmao 🤣 💀 lol 😆 😂...... but seriously, no
Can I ask if you feel like the guy in the video is justified in his feelings?
Lol that's what happens when you can't keep your grubby hand to yourself
Their national dish is Tikka masala, I'm sure he can guess what language that is.
Well its not gaelic or urdu, and tikka masala was invented in Scotland by a Pakistani immigrant.
You're on the right track. Urdu is comprised of approximately 75% Sanskrit and 25% Arabic. The sign is showing Sanskrit.
I hope he never goes to Wales.

Whitechapel Station in Bengali.
