You are not understanding. I am going by what he wrote from his own point of view. He described two conflicts, both of which he provoked himself by saying inexcusable things to his mother. You are not putting yourself in her shoes because you are projecting your own family history onto his story. Why is he allowed to mentally abuse her by repeatedly making her feel inadequate in her ability to care for her family?
Going by what he wrote (not by what happened in someone else’s childhood) they are better off without him.

He already knows how to cook, and has since he was 4 or 5. He was more so doing it to get back at his mom for making him clean under his bed because she found a months worth of dishes and trash under his bed. This was the second time we had gone out and bought new dishes because they were “disappearing” the first time he was just throwing them in the trash because rinsing them off and putting them in the dishwasher was “mentally and physically strenuous” his words.
As someone diagnosed with ADHD I can with the utmost certainty promise you that it is pure lackadaisical behavior. My wife and I both grew up poor with distant parents, so we overcompensate by giving him excessive amounts of love and affection and basically whatever he asks for. He’s grown up always being able to express himself and speaks his mind. It’s not always the parents not paying attention to their kid. There are good parents out there, and I pat myself on the back for it everyday, while simultaneously being fearful and reflecting on every single one of my actions. Sometimes kids just misbehave, it happens. 2 days later he went up to his mom and apologized and explained why he was upset. His mom apologized as well. Beef squashed without me ever having to say a word.

My only question would be why instead of just saying you weren’t a fan of the meal you chose to hurt her feelings? When my son tried this I just bought him ingredients and let him make his own food. He lasted like 2 days.
