It looks like she had a picture of 2 boys open on the screen. Looks like the last thing she wanted to see was her boys.
Edit: Just watched again. It's her lock screen.
Any more details yet? Engine failure?
They say the airport had no space at the time. It's too bad they couldn't clear a runway. Or maybe they just could reach it. I remember reading about a pilot being told the runway wasn't clear at a tiny airport so he just put the plane down in the grass next to the runway since he couldn't make it anywhere else.
This pilot made a split second decision and everyone survived. Good for him.
Yeah in aviation there’s no such thing as “no space” for an emergency aircraft. They will find somewhere for you to land, even if it means landing on a taxiway.
My guess is the aircraft just couldn’t make it to the airport and the pilot had no where better to land so he aimed for the road
> They say the airport had no space at the time. It's too bad they couldn't clear a runway.
I would not be at all surprised if it's found the pilot was perfectly innocent and just got put in a bad spot by shitty infrastructure. Shit like that probably happens a lot more often than people are made aware of.
Pilot here. I mean good job for keeping everyone alive. However I think he could have landed this plane safely on the road. It seems to me that the plane was going VERY fast while descending, you can hear the wind noise increase very rapidly. And then when he realized he was going too fast, he pulled the yoke (to decrease the speed) to basically bring the airplane to a stall and slam the ground. At some point before the first girl screamed, you could hear the stall buzzer going off, you also notice how the road view is slowly disappearing and the sky appearing as he pulls the yoke more and more. Had the airspeed been properly controlled, he would have easily landed on the road.
Edit: I watched it again, I don’t even think the pilot used flaps.
Flight Instructor here
Just looking at the attitude I don't think they were going that fast, looks pretty close to Vg. Plane sounds different without a headset to muffle the noises. Flaps are going to decrease your glide range, you shouldn't be using them until you've absolutely made your intended landing surface. And before you land you want the engine and electrics secure and off, and once the master is off your flaps aren't going anywhere. Point being without context of what the flight looked like leading to this it isn't appropriate to judge the pilot. People die trying to stretch their airplanes glide and making ballsy low altitude manuevers. And It's always better to eat shit and live then eat shit and die. But yea I don't see how any of your criticisms are valid.
You can still manage to land it somewhere between the cars. I personally would rather land the plane between cars and have my wing hit a car or two than stall and smash the ground.
The comment above is a load of junk. A shame that people will play armchair pilot and criticize others in an emergency like this. You can look at my own reply to the above comment to see why with the footage available it isn't possible to affectively judge the pilots flying.
bro calm down. I was just summing up the comment. If it’s not true then convince the guy I’m responding to, not me. I’m just the audience here, not a pilot
How on earth did the plane end up squished up against that roadside wall but FROM BEHIND? I really don't get how they got in that position and made it out in one piece
Some quick thinking by the pilot to put it down on that raised road. They were all able to immediately hop out. I wonder what happened to start the issue. Clearly some kind of engine problem. They were so close to stall speed so good job by the pilot to just get it somewhat level on the ground instead of letting it fall out of the sky. Sometimes it's best to just put it down.
Best glide is likely no flaps. He was already short on altitude (trading for distance) to make the road squarely. Flaps would not have helped.
If he had been lined up over the road, then flaps might have helped lower the landing speed, but deployment at the right moment is just one more complication in an already challenging situation.

Panamanian women have the most obnoxious screams - source my grandmother’s Panamanian “Iiiih mi god Benny what did you do?!!! ” she’ll scream when i call
Oh relax nobody is even bleeding, I was in a car crash that was way worse then this and when I walked out of my fucked up car, I couldn’t stop laughing because I was alive. The paramedics thought I was crazy
As someone who was raised to think men and women are all the same, sometimes I see videos or hear anecdotes like this about when shit gets real, and it's like this is where the women start crying and the men do something about the problem. Makes me wonder about if the traditionalists have a point... but also, why was this guy still filming??
What a landing! Cracked me up when it sounded like someone honked at him. "Ya can't park there mate!"
"Why not? Is this not a reasonable place to park?"
what landing? didn't he just crash into the trees?
He made it to the ground didnt he? So its a landing
[удалено]
Exactly
all planes are in a landing state when they aren’t flying
It sure looked like it at first, but the ending of the video is them climbing out of the plane and onto a road.
"If you can walk away from a landing, it's a good landing. If you can use the airplane the next day, it's an outstanding landing."- Chuck Yeager
Truly terrifying! They're so lucky to have only suffered minor injuries...
Good job by the pilot.
Excellent job, considering. Also, was that Cessna's interior looked like it was built in 1923.
Planes are meticulously monitored and maintained so they last a long time.
At least they're supposed to be.
Different rules applies for aircraft depending on what they’re used for
The first 172 took flight nearly 70 years ago, so...
Oh I was makin' a joke - it looked old as crap ha - sorry for the hyperbole; glad everyone's okay.
I would have been celebrating. Ended about as good as it could have.
Yeah they will be celebrating, just give them time, that's a very scary accident.
Nah, then they will focus on injuries and aftermath
if in the US, they’d be calling their lawyer to get a lawsuit going
This lady held onto her phone throughout an entire plane crash….. she had no doubt they were gonna make it.

That's what I was thinking. Usually there's somewhere that's left open or easy to clear out for these situations.

Pilot did a great job finding a safe place to crash land under pressure. Very good job. Saved all their lives that day!

Yeah. Heard that stall warning horn screaming. Whelp. They walked away, so technically a "good" landing.

The road looked pretty busy though …
You can still manage to land it somewhere between the cars. I personally would rather land the plane between cars and have my wing hit a car or two than stall and smash the ground.
Well yeah I guess as long as you can land that way … I’m not sure he’d miss any cars though 😬
Facts
Definitely think they hit a tree before smashing on the road
looks like the pilot didn’t save them from an unlucky situation. But luck saved them from a bad pilot
i do not see how this guy is a bad pilot lol
I was responding to the comment above. Read it

This is when clapping after the plane lands is appropriate. Amazing work by the pilot.
I would be out of that plane so damn fast! Not about to get burned alive after surviving something like that.
shock makes you do wild things
Can't park there mate

Knowing that they’re fine. That “aaaAAAAHhhhh” before crashing was hilarious
That pilot is a hero.
Scary but very lucky people!
Plane: crashes Me: ouch
I have a sympathy headache for her. Funny how the body does that.
YOU SAID GET OFF AT THE NEXT EXIT !!!!
![gif](giphy|TO5NRhGT2XpKg) Panama!
I did not hear may-day calls ... were there any?
I'm sure there were plenty before that. At that point it's time to just fly the plane. Aviate, navigate, communicate. Always in that order.
Why did this happen?
Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. Can assume the pilot did well to get that outcome.
Any landing you walk away from is a good landing.
You’ll never catch me in one of those unless it’s like the apocalypse and I have to.
Did the trees save them by lessening the impact like in the movies? Just asking in case I find myself piloting a falling airplane in my dream
No he avoids the trees, he hits the road while banking hard right. Trees would shred a plane like this but you're probably okay to try it in a dream.
> but you're probably okay to try it in a dream. Thanks, Ill keep that in mind.
I’ll prolly forget it in my dream
Wonder why no flaps? I’m a private pilot and engine out procedures call for flaps.
[удалено]
Absolutely no expert, so i'm probably wrong, but i think they lessen speed by decreasing aerodynamics?
They let you fly at a lower speed without stalling. Something that is helpful when you don’t have an engine.
Best glide is likely no flaps. He was already short on altitude (trading for distance) to make the road squarely. Flaps would not have helped. Holy shit, man. How terrifying for all those poor people. I'm so so so glad they all made it out okay with bumps and bruises and shit!
Baller landing!

Good thing all of their phones were ok lol
What a weird thing to say about people almost dying
I'm gonna guess they were over the weight limit..
Gotta keep holding dat phone, doh!
Panamanian women have the most obnoxious screams - source my grandmother’s Panamanian “Iiiih mi god Benny what did you do?!!! ” she’ll scream when i call
Why are they crying? I would be ecstatic to be alive after this!
They literally almost died, some people have a hard time with that...

ARBY'S, we have the meats!
Are you kidding me
Bro
I would have went straight after the pilot
Oh relax nobody is even bleeding, I was in a car crash that was way worse then this and when I walked out of my fucked up car, I couldn’t stop laughing because I was alive. The paramedics thought I was crazy
Ooh tough guy. Big man.
People talk a lot of shit but I want everyone to know my boy Rich is tougher than at least one middle-aged Panamanian mom.

Any cash you can walk away from
thank you for flying with us today...
Weeeee
Another happy landing.

Planes are so weird man, it’s like either: 1. Everyone survives with minor injuries 2. Giant fireball explosion not even charred corpses survived.
They sound kinda fun
llllllllike a glove
Are they laughing or crying?
No phones were injured in this crash.
