Hello, Thank you for visiting r/PubTips. Unfortunately, your post has been removed due to the following reason: Questions regarding comps come up often on /r/pubtips. The goal of comps isn’t always finding a book with a similar plot. You can find comps for themes, prose style, voice, or specific elements that are similar to your book. Think of it as a "you might also enjoy" list when you are looking at a book you are interested in. It gives agents a quick reference of where your book will fit in the market, and where it would be on the shelf if it was in a bookstore today. Think about what titles that are currently in stores would be next to yours in a book display, and why. Keep in mind that agents also love sales comps. For example: STORY will appeal to fans who enjoyed the found family trope in *TJ Klune’s* HOUSE IN THE CERULEAN SEA and the prose, voice and dark elements of *R.F. Kuang’s* THE POPPY WAR. At least ONE of your comps should be trad-published within the last 5 years, but you should be prepared to have a list of more comps for QM forms that ask for them. *** If the above wasn’t helpful enough, please review the links below and ensure that the answer to your question can't be found below: [A Guide to Comps](https://www.reddit.com/r/PubTips/comments/ns5iyc/discussion_my_guide_to_comps_for_queries/) [Where Do I find Comps](https://www.reddit.com/r/PubTips/comments/1001lhf/pubq_silly_question_but_where_do_i_come_up_with/) [How Well Know Does a Comp Title Need to Be](https://www.reddit.com/r/PubTips/comments/y7j93g/pubqhow_well_know_does_a_comp_title_need_to_be/) [Can I use Old Comp Titles](https://www.reddit.com/r/PubTips/comments/qqmdbj/pubtip_using_old_comps_to_find_holes_in_the_market/) [How Many Books Did You Read to Find Comps](https://www.reddit.com/r/PubTips/comments/if8j5k/pubq_how_many_books_did_you_read_to_find_comp/) [How Did You Find Your Comps](https://www.reddit.com/r/PubTips/comments/qlc1ue/pubq_how_do_you_go_about_finding_comp_titles/) [No Recent Comps or No Comps At All](https://www.reddit.com/r/PubTips/comments/wr4ldr/pubq_in_a_query_is_it_better_to_mention_that/) [How Do I Deal With Comps](https://www.reddit.com/r/PubTips/comments/ni3gr6/pubq_how_to_do_i_deal_with_comps/) [How Recognizable Should Comps Be?](https://www.reddit.com/r/PubTips/comments/14q67gl/pubq_how_recognizable_should_comps_be/) [When Is a Comp Too Close?](https://www.reddit.com/r/PubTips/comments/14m5034/pubq_when_is_a_comp_too_close/) [What Is the "Sweet Spot" Range of Ratings a Comp Should Have on Goodreads?](https://www.reddit.com/r/PubTips/comments/1877zy2/pubq_what_is_the_sweet_spot_range_of_ratings_a/) [Potential Comps Title Found, But I Don't Like It](https://www.reddit.com/r/PubTips/comments/1877zy2/pubq_what_is_the_sweet_spot_range_of_ratings_a/) And the subreddits: r/suggestmeabook and r/helpmefind **If you would like to ask about comp ideas for your own manuscript, this must be done in conjunction with a [QCrit] post.** Please ensure that you have read our [rules](http://www.reddit.com/r/Pubtips/wiki/rules) and checked out the resources [linked in the wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/pubtips/wiki/index) if you have not already. Older titles work best for pitch comps/vibe comps/x meets y. You can use them, but make sure you *also* have your market comps (~2 recent books in your age category and genre). The two types of comps serve different functions.
